I'm having same issues with the slate material editor. Whenever I change something, max freezes for 3-4 second. And if I have more than ten elements at once opened it takes ages to load. That is very frustrating when you are trying to keep the deadlines.

Thanks, guys It's a great time-saving for my workflow.

With the 1.5 RC4 I have a feeling that the light mixer consumed a large amount of RAM when is used and maybe this isn't only with RC4. Does it start from 1.4 but I'm not really sure? Is there someone with the same experience?

Yeah, LightMix can be pretty memory hungry. For example for 4K resolution you have 256 MB RAM per each LightSelect element. If you have also denoising applied to this element, its 384 MB per element during the rendering + additional 384 MB per element during denoising (768 MB total per element). This scales linearly with the number of pixels, so for 8K resolution, you have up to 3 GB per LightSelect element.

This is something I'd like to address in 1.6. I already have few ideas how to do it, now I just have to find the time to try and implement those ideas :)
I see, thanks. We'll wait for 1.6 and try to be careful using many light elements :)

Amazing work.
I like the lighting set in render with armchair. How does this is achieved?

What is the light condition here? I like it.

Good work. Just one note, maybe you used denoiser too much. Some areas are too soft and unusual smoother.

Did you use latest VFB+ ? It loads .exr files correctly (with gamma 1.0), and than in exposure applies 2.2 preview. (This is the same Corona does, it just doesn't show you).

Previously there was a bug that causes incorrect gamma though but it was long-time fixed.
Hmm, now I see. Unfortunately, I use 2.6 because I have tried the trial 2.7 and has some bug or something that doesn't appear in the max frame buffer. The Plus icon just it's not there no matter how/what I do. ((

I haven't been using 32bit output for a while. In past months I used pre-dominantly VFB+ filmic ( with single midtones boosting, slightly contrast adding LUT, but with no color bending ), then send it to PS as 16bit tiff and continue from there as I would develop my raw photography.

My head hurts from this every second month though :- )

I would like to see how the Fstorm curve looks like, I think Vlado was trying to make a LUT of it last time I checked chaosgroup forum. I would probably be most satisfied with full filmic curve, but I guess it would be confusing for 90perc. of users, who knows, maybe even for me. But full filmic lets you specify when the shoulder happens, how fast it rolls, how boosted the linear section should be. I want to tweak it to resemble the one NIKON cameras have.

I would like to eventually do some post-production in framebuffer maybe, but those tools would have to work in sRGB/2.2 space, and that would probably collide with the option to export linear files. For now my ideal dream is tonemapping resembling the camera response curves modern DSLRs have ( because current CMOS chips are linear a tonal curve is applied ), with some contrast LUT only for preview reasons ( like viewfinder showing your the jpeg processing to give you estimate of "nice look" ) and then do everything in ACR.

Hi,Juraj.
Could you explain how do you use VFB+ with saved corona exr. files?  I have tried to open the files from VFB+ but they appear dark and with maximum burned areas. If I try to render trough the VFB+ it renders trough normal max frame buffer? :(
Thanks.

Off-Topic / Re: Prices for 3d works?
« on: 2016-09-10, 18:24:15 »
I personally think that the prices here are under estimated in general. In fact, everything depends from the overall quality of each production but in general each of us should always consider:

- Taxes
- SW investments
- HW investments
- Bills
- Rent
- Expences
- Living
- Growing up economically

If I have to: Model that scene, texture it, lighting it, choose the correct objects to put in, choose the visuals, produce the test images, do some changes, produce the high res images, colour correction process... Well, 500$ or 500 Euros is way to low. That's my personal opinion and I can't even think about giving my work as a gift to the client. Here in Paris one image could cost 2.500 / 3.000 Euros for an arch. firm.

Anyway, each of us has his own prices and quality at the end and depends on the product and result you are selling out there.

Thanks,

Dionysios -

This is well put. There are two good points here:

-One about estimating the realistic costs of being a freelancer/self-employed (not just trying to scrape together an equivalent to a full time employee in a similar profession.

-The other about realising the value in the work 3D artists produce. I think even beyond your own assessment of your living costs.
Assuming we're talking about archviz, then you're an asset towards either private investment in property or investment of public money in public buildings. Neither are cheap.
$50 or even $500 is completely out of place within the scope of such projects.

Thanks guys. Lightning is pretty simple. Just HDR mixed with Sun.

These 2 images were lit just with HDR.

Have you got any additional hidden black/white planes to cast/block shadows and light in preferred directions here?
I do like your approach to lighting.

Try to change max drivers (Nitrous, directX wtc..)  and see what happens.
I thought we were done with this issue long time ago witn new drivers and max versions. I had such kind of problems few years before with old versions of max.
Now after swtiching viewport drivers the prolem disappear but i lost all AA filtering and everything is jagged... anyway - thank you @cecofuli
