I've been developing this castle rendering for some time, but I feel I've looked at it for too long.

I need to ask, what can be done to improve these shots? I feel as though the closeup shot (from the front gate perspective) looks a little fake and washed out compared to the river shot.

I've attached a screenshot of my tone map settings too, along with a reference image. There are many differences, which I fail to understand how to implement.

I would appreciate any input I can get :)
