[Max] I need help! / Re: How to add displacement on edges
« on: 2023-02-11, 21:05:29 »
Hi,
Thank you for your reply !

Ok I see, Corona is calculating the AO and Curvature above the displaced geometry.

That's really clear ! It looks like there is no workaround ? Actually I though there was something working with the CoronaroundedEdges in "Fast Mode" have you tried ?
So hopefully that could be a request for a next release ? That's really something missing in corona, if you want to push more..

thank you !

[Max] I need help! / How to add displacement on edges
« on: 2023-02-10, 23:40:33 »
Hi,

I want to add displacement only on the edges of a mesh. I have tried a CoronaMix ( Top: noise map, Bottom: empty and Mix, either CoronaAO, curvature or RounEdges) . Nothing is working. Looks like the AO, curvature or RoundEdges could not be used as mask in the displacement channel. The other channel support it.

Did you try to achieve that ?

Maybe it is a feature request ?

Thank you !

[Max] Feature Requests / Re: Corona VFB Color Profile
« on: 2022-05-02, 10:57:31 »
Hi James,

Thank you.

But what is the profile embedded in every images saved from the VFB ? sRGB, AdobeRGB ? or something else ?

I have also my photoshop setup this way but I have checked all the options for the "profile Mismatches" and "Missings profiles", otherwise it is a big mess.

Tell me if I understand right, color profile is a bit like units attached to a CAD file.
If you import a CAD drawing without any unit in Max, it is a mess. Same with color profile in Photoshop. Right ?

Try it, if you open a rendering in Corona Image Editor and compare it to what you see in Photoshop, it is not exactly the same. Specially in the Red's..

Thank you !

[Max] Feature Requests / Corona VFB Color Profile
« on: 2022-05-01, 20:19:54 »
Hi,

I have noticed some color differences when you save, from the VBF, to JPG / TIF or EXR and open them in Photoshop.
Since the images saved from the VFB are not tagged with any color profile, I have tried to assign a sRGB color profile. I have also tried AdobeRGB. AdobeRGB gives a little less difference with the VFB.
But still, you feel that's not the same color rendering.

My question is, what color profile is used when the images are saved from the VFB ?

Would be good to know. It would be good to have the choice, sRGB, AdobeRGB or something else.. when saving the images.

Thank you!
Oliver

You can make frankenstein map by stitching randomizer, triplanar and color correct to Corona bitmap, but that still would not solve the problem of adjusting multiple maps at once, not to mention that native bitmap users would be left at big disadvantage. I think that much better solution is to implement master control option in all those maps, the one like Corona color correction already has. It works great, is much flexible and doesn't clutter UI.

Ok, but "more is better" so having this frankenstein map could also be combined with a master control taking over. Local vs Global. So both should be implemented . What about this ?

Yes, I see. That would a better way indeed.
Since Vray is in the neighborhood, I hope that is somehting planned ! Can the Corona team confirm ? :)

Hello,

It would be great to have a corona bitmap with all features from CoronaUVWRandomizer and CoronaMultiMap (only 1 map of course, using the possibility to randomize gamma / Hue, etc of the bitmap).
That would simplify the map tree and gain some time for setting up the material.

Thanks !
Oliver

Hi,

Exactly what I am looking for !

Did you find a solution, with Powershell scripting maybe ?
any clues ?

Thx

Hi Guys,

So what's up with ACES implemented in Corona 7?

Vray does it.. :/

[Max] Resolved Bugs / Re: Corona VDB 7 vs 6

Hello,

Thank you. Yes I experience the same problem. Clouds have a strange "cut out" effect in its volume.

In Corona 6, scale was definitely not an issue.

Best,
Olivier

Dear Rowan,

Thank you for your reply.

smoke on the left is 100% and smoke on the right is 1,4%

Ok, I think I found the problem. Scale seems to be the problem between Corona 7 and 6.

If the CoronaVolumeGrid object is not scaled in Max, there is no problems. The VDB seems to render correctly.

But if there is a scale on the CoronaVolumeGrid object, in my case, 2%, then the VDB renders almost transparent. Step size seems to change but is far to solve the problem.

Whereas this issu with the scale was supported in Corona 6.

Please can you have a look at this bug ?
What would be the workarround ?

Thank you !

Olivier

[Max] Resolved Bugs / Corona VDB 7 vs 6

Hello,

When you render a vdb file in Corona 6 which looks fine, the same file in Corona 7 hotfix 1 gives a completely different result. The VDB is almost transparent..
I have tried with a completly new scene, new load from a VDB file, I confirm, it is not working the same way as before.

Max 2021.

best,
Oliver
