[Max] Bug Reporting / Probably not a bug, but still odd ...
« on: 2022-12-15, 21:48:09 »
Got some 5995wx Threadrippers running and i'm seeing strange behavior.
These monsters use a very intelligent Turbo mode, in single threaded tasks they OC from 2.7 to 4.7 Ghz on a single core, while in multi-threaded tasks they will push all the cores to 4.0Ghz (Prime95).
Now, i get it that rendering isn't a strict number crunching like torture tests and there are some "downtimes" like load/unload and refresh, but still ...

Then these bad boys pick up a rendering job they only OC themselves to 3.3Ghz on all cores. Plus the task manager shows a seesaw of CPU load instead of 100% load. Seems less than optimal considering what that CPU is capable of.

« on: 2019-11-21, 19:46:43 »
Just tried installing 5 (manual install after unpack)

[Max] I need help! / NVIDIA Denoiser
« on: 2018-12-14, 00:05:16 »
Can't figure out how to get the new de-noiser to work.
I use unpack and place all the plugins in the shared network folders. The path to all DLLs is added via windows environment path.

Corona throws the "failed to initialize" error, Missing optix.51.dll

where does Corona expect to find optix dlls?

thanks!

[Max] Resolved Bugs / corona sun + delete + undo=2 targets
« on: 2018-08-16, 00:07:33 »
max 2018 sp4, corona 2 (release)

create a corona sun
un-select it
click on the sun object
hit delete
then hit undo

mine brings back 2 targets instead of a sun and a target
on multiple machines

I need to produce multiple lightmix combinations out of one CXR.
The plan was to run a cycle routine that produces a custom LightMix.conf and does the post.

But for some reason LightMix.conf file is being ignored during post.

Any ideas?

[Max] Bug Reporting / corona camera selection

max 2018

Is it just me, or is it royal paint to select corona cameras by themselves without a target?
It seems that the sensitive area around the camera itself is completely off, it always picks both the camera and the target.
And even if i find a way (by clicking on the very back of the camera icon), it takes max a long to acknowledge that a selection was made.

Not a critical thing, but very annoying!

[Max] I need help! / scripts and network installation
« on: 2017-11-08, 18:33:21 »
hello! need a little help here

i don't do individual installs on our network, i just unpack and put dlls and plugins into a share folder which all workstations point to via windows environment paths and plugin.ini

but now with the material library in the mix the Corona menu is a total dud

can i somehow easily re-path InitScripts so it points to a shared network folder for the material library, or is it hard coded?

thanks!

[Max] Resolved Feature Requests / AUTO-Exposure please!
« on: 2016-09-09, 17:05:48 »
VERY handy when it comes to complex fly through animations, when camera travels through areas of different lighting

Insight render had it :)

super simple
1) pre-render a frame at a set low res and arrive at a average exposure number, before rendering production size and quality
2) give users a multiplier to manipulate the resulting desired EV up or down
3) to prevent flickering in the animation pre-render (-2, current, +2 frames) and average the EV value out

there may be a smarter way of doing it, but that's how it was handled in Insight, and worked like a charm

thank you!

PS there's always a chance that i'm missing something, and there's already a way to accomplish autoexposure, in which case please point me in the right direction

[Max] Resolved Feature Requests / elements only
« on: 2016-08-05, 17:06:53 »
can a lock be added to "Render elements only" to make it network render compatible?
thank you!

also, may be i'm doing something wrong, but when i render just the elements for Alpha and Z the process takes it's sweet time going through passes, it takes somewhat less than the full images, but is nowhere near "instant" like the tool-tip claims

turning everything to matte objects and doing the same in v-ray took seconds

[Max] Resolved Bugs / backburner perpetual render
« on: 2016-06-01, 22:44:40 »
having an issue here with backburner

the jobs save the images, but never register them as finished
and start rendering over and over again

max2016, corona 1.4 (same thing happened in 1.3)
saving EXR's with user 2.2 gamma and no extra channels

the issue is elusive, i can't figure any reason why it may happen
one day the file works fine the next it stops registering the network job completion
once it does that, though, it never goes back to being normal

if you have any insights, please share

thank you,
tony

[Max] Resolved Feature Requests / rental render node lic
« on: 2014-10-10, 21:41:38 »
Posting here since i haven't found the answer in the pricing press release, and it does sound like feature to me :) please feel free to move

Based on our company's needs box version with update subscription sounds perfect ... once the floating network licensing becomes available. But occasionally we like to fire up a few hundred machines on the cloud (precisely why we chose not to upgrade to v-ray 3.0), and hence this licensing feature request.

Since there will already be a web license server running to support the SaaS model, would it be possible to arrange for, say, prepaid accounts that allow a "per hour/per node use"? Let's say a certain hour/node cost is established and the server allows machines to pull render node licenses from it  for as long as there's a positive balance on the account. If you base the hourly cost on a reasonable annual 100% busy assumption it'll come out pretty low, and i'm sure will be a welcome solution for anyone using cloud only as as supplement  to the in-house farm. It'll be a much more cost effective model for occasional cloud use.

Thank you!
