Title: What do you guys use to displace water? :)
Post by: Adi on 2015-08-13, 01:22:28
Hello guys,
i saw some good examples of water surfaces in gallery on the forum so i was wondering if someone could share their opinion on what's a good way of displacing water - noise maps , custom bitmaps etc ?

The Boundry has a tutorial on how to blend Noise Maps together here (http://www.the-boundary.com/blog/2015/4/22/carey-house-tutorial-05-pool)
You can also try the Phoenix FD (http://www.chaosgroup.com/en/2/phoenix.html) demo. They have a tutorial on it here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ia_rpv29e_Y)

You can download Rawalanche's scene and look for yourself if it's good enough for what you need: https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php/topic,8970.msg58151.html#msg58151

Rawalanche's way with procedural maps definitely gives good results .
I suck at using noise map since i dont know how to get a nice preview of it in viewport . And honestly never even tried using cellular map.

Phoenix looks awesome , i'll surely try the demo version. Boundry also has a good tutorial , i think the end result is very similar to Rawalanche's.

Thanks a lot guys :)

I just tested Rawalanche's mix map with displacement and ripple modifiers and i think it adds a nice wavy look.
Maybe someone finds it useful.
