Octane X

frv:
That's exactly my experience. I am happy with Corona for now.

I need to update my hardware any time soon. Still on a iMac and waiting for Apple to update them. At the office here in The Hague things are slowly turning around to PC's. We are a bunch of Apple fanatics but several of us had to go PC to run the software we need like Lumion, Revit, Unreal and so on. Although the m1 is lovely machine I think Apple isn't going to win back the CAD developers and their clients that already left for PC's. I would not be surprised if in a few years most developers will abandon the Apple platform. Redshift was planned for Vectorworks to run on metal on OSX but even though years have past nothing works yet. The latest news is that Vectorworks is teaming up with Unreal/twinmotion. Architects still working with Apple will not be amused by Octane X. I wonder when it finally works as advertised if its any faster than Corona or worth the hassle at all.

crazy3dman:
I've got Octane X running on my iMac Pro 2017 using the built in AMD GPU. But honestly, Corona is just a nicer all around experience. Much easier to use. And rendering with Octane - on my setup at least - is really not any faster.

I'm still loving Corona.

frv:
Tx, I will skip Octane on a mac for now. Iam interested to see if Red Shift on a mac is any better. But Corona works well for me too even on a late 2015 iMac (32Gbram). I use Maxtree (C4D/Corona ready ) now for my vegetation and with S24 and the scatter pen its a lot of fun. I hope there will be more Corona ready resources. Maybe Quixel one day will export to C4D with Corona materials.

indexofrefraction:
hmm... I dare to say it... none of the available M1 macs is suited for rendering. O:-)

frv:
Well, you are probably right. But the interactive renderview is super fast with redshift on a m1. So for finetuning models, materials and so on you are fine with a m1 mac. But production work, highr res stills and so on you would obviously get a proper desktop.
Corona render also works well with a m1. Its just great to be able to play a little and do some testing at home with the m1 and coronarender or redshift.
