[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Motion Blur on backplate
« on: 2023-04-26, 18:05:38 »
Thanks Ben! I'll give that a try. Here's a quick test mock up where I just blurred the backplate (poorly) in Photoshop and then animated the wheels to MB them. Seems to work great. Now I need to spend some time making the backplate blur look better.

Beautiful car - beautiful renders!

So I set up a simple scene, and I'm getting the same results.  Car is blurry and backplate and Shadowcatcher are not.  You can download the files here:  https://evanalexander.digitalpigeon.com/msg/sI_rcOOuEe2tSgIULjfkoQ/Of6cw2gp1GKhXXRFMJER7g# - Motion Blur test

Also - when I turn on IR in the VFB I get the blur on the car, but when I hit RENDER in the VFB window, no blur.  in the IR mode, I have to change the Shutter Speed before the blur shows up.

Ultimately, the goal is to have the car be in focus and the backplate to be motion blurred.  I'll deal with the wheels spinning, later, now I'm just trying to get the base set up.  I can't be the first person doing car renders with backplates and MB here....?

Any thoughts or help appreciated!

Thanks all!

Beanz - your second snowy shot is what I'm after, but alas, I have TIF backplates I need to use and the HDRI won't work (graphically) in Dome mode for what I need.

I suspect Pokoy is correct and the Shadowcatcher projection is screwing things up - I linked the camera to the moving car, but I didn't link the Shadowcatcher plane - going to try that next and see if it works.  If not, I'll recreate my setup in a client friendly file and upload.

Thanks!

[C4D] General Discussion / Motion Blur on backplate
« on: 2023-04-24, 22:56:46 »
Hi,

I've got a simple scene with a car model, a backplate, a HDRI to light and a plane with a shadowcatcher under the car.  Easy.  I'm trying to add motion blur and have watched tutorials, searched forum, etc. but I can only get the car to blur and not the backplate.  What am I missing....

Keyframed the car at Frame 01.  Advanced to Frame 90 and moved the car forward and keyframed it.  Made the camera a child of the car.  Turned on Motion Blur for both object and Camera.  Adjusted my Shutter Speed.  Advance to frame 30ish and hit render.  Car is blurred, backplate is perfectly in focus. Level of blur looks good, it's just that I want it inverted (car focus, backplate blurred).

I'm sure I'm missing something simple.  Any thoughts?  Thanks team - the model and the backplate are behind NDA, so I can't share the file, but will make a dummy/proxy file if that is needed.  Using Corona 9 in R2023.1.0

Thanks!

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Corona or C4D Issue?
« on: 2023-03-30, 23:11:21 »
I feel like I get this error sometimes when the texture files are in with the .c4d file and the link isn't C:/blahblahblah/dropbox/blahblah/blah/house/coolimage.jpg but in the attributes for the materials, each channel is loaded with just coolimage.jpeg (no hard drive path).  To fix this I usually just make a new folder and move all the maps there and then relink.  Don't know if that helps, but try it out.  Also looks like there are some Phong issues on that roof :)

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Refresh Button?
« on: 2022-12-22, 23:37:13 »
It doesn't currently do anything, correct :) It is left there (for now) more as a safeguard in case you need to force-refresh the VFB, but tbh there are no such situations that we know of. We've considered just deleting it, or moving it somewhere less prominent, we shall see.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the reply.  Honestly, I'm surprised to hear you say this - I need to refresh the VFB about a million times a day: adjusting a material, turning geo on or off, moving a light (sometimes) - usually it takes, but lots of times it doesn't.  The number of times I start and stop the VFB to refresh is a lot.  It's not a deal breaker, but it would be nice if refresh did what it's namesake advertised :)

Cool!  Thanks - that's how Octane handles focus also - I didn't realize you could do that with Corona too.

Anyone have any luck with Refresh though?

What does the Refresh button do in the VFB?  It never seems to do anything for me and I can't find it in the Help files.  I'd love it to refresh the scene to restart the IR when I make a change that isn't automatically picked up, but alas.... nada.

Also - what about the PICK button?

Thanks!

I can't even figure out the workflow with Pyro in corona... can you give a quick run down of the steps you took?

Hi! I built my geo and set the Pyro sim up in Cinema. I used the viewport display to set it up and work it out. Once I thought I had it right, I cached the scene from the Pyro Sim object and saved this to hard drive. All this does is write you a .VDB file (just like Embergen or turbulence). Next I turned off the Pyro emmiter and the Pyro sim objects and added a Corona Volume Grid. Into this I loaded the .Vdb I just created and dialed in the settings for scattering, emission, etc. and placed the volume object in the correct place in my scene. That's it, except the vdb object gives a render error when it overlaps other geo in the scene. Redshift doesn't seem to have this problem, and I get the error with any vdb I load, not just the Pyro created ones.

Hope that helps some.

Hello,

I have a simple test smoke sim here (using the new pyro) - this was cached to a VDB file and put into a Corona Volume Grid.  Here's the question:

When the bounding box for the VDB intersects other geometry, it throws shadows - see attached.  Is there a way to avoid this?  Scene is lit with a Physical Sky and a single Area light at the ceiling level, but not intersecting the sim at all.  I have this problem with any VDB that I use, not just Pyro generated ones.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Well, in a quick test, cloth seems to work just fine, but not Ropes.

Hello!  I'm RnDing some rope dynamics for an upcoming project.  I'm using C4D 2023 and the new Corona 09 release.  I have a few strands of rope twisting together, but when I turn on the IR, I get the ropes in their starting position only, but if I RENDER, it works normally and I am seeing the dynamics in action - see attached images.  Am I missing something obvious?  I'm on Windows 10.

Thanks,

e.

Could you find carpet materials you like in places like Poliigon or Turbosquid to get the right look for bump and displacement and then use a Corona decal to add the pattern/design to the carpet?
