[C4D] Resolved Bugs / Size of Sun and Clouds

Having clouds right inside Corona is a great addition and with a lot of adjustments, can look really good. Maybe this isn't a bug per-se, but a needed improvement for future builds.

One thing that is not realistic and potentially an issue is the size of the sun disk. What I mean is the edge of the sun's visible disc will not be occluded by the clouds unless the CENTER of the sun goes behind a cloud. It's a black and white issue. Either it's completely blocked by the clouds, or it is completely visible in front of the clouds.

This issue can be somewhat hidden with a nice bloom and glare, but you will still get a sudden blocked effect with just a tiny bit of movement.

In this image, you can see the sun is only 1 degree lower and it's completely blocked. In the first image, we should be seeing the sun partially blocked with a lot of light bleeding on the edge. This test was done using r20 (I was rendering in r25) so I will test it in r25 soon.

[Max] Resolved Bugs / My Scene Began Crashing Upon Rendering

I have a crash report and scene to upload, but I don't see the private uploader links any more. Where have they gone or where can I upload a scene for you to pick through?
This scene is quite light and not complex at all. I don't need to present these rugs in this manner, but I thought it was a fun idea. Sure would like to know what the crash is. The last time I had a mystery like this, Corona at one point, gave me a message about the space being too large and I was able to figure out there were some crazy vertex points a mile away from my scene. Would be nice if Corona could throw a few crumbs so we as users may be able to solve the problem.

Worked on this scene for days with no problem.
Now Any version of corona (Daily builds 8-30, 9-19 and latest v9 RC1) crashes at between 1 and 4 passes. r20 and r25 both crash.

If I delete these items, this scene renders fine.

I tried deleteing them one at a time. Crashed until only "Rug_Devon.Ink". They are all identical. Tried converting to mesh, deleting the text, converting the text. Can't imagine why this is crashing now. Also the materials are the same, except for a color shader.

I know this has been report in the past, so not sure if this is still being worked on or what. I've been using quite a bit of their materials and many are still very glossy when imported into C4D.

Let's say I render a scene with a Noise Level of 5 and it goes for 25 passes before denoising and saving out. If I take that same scene an set it to 25 passes and 0 for the noise level, with I get the same render time and quality, or is the Noise Level setting intelligent and uses more rays only were necessary?

I've been struggling with this for a while, but just do a quick fix with simple exposure. Now I need to try and match a real-world camera, but the camera settings like ISO, Shutter and F-stop don't seem to do anything. I'm guessing the workflow has changed, but can someone enlightenment me on enabling the actual camera settings please?

[C4D] Daily Builds / v9 More Interactive Crashes

I don't have a crash report to send, but I've noticed v9 crashes more when using the Interactive Renderer or Viewport. I remember v8 seemed to be rid of most of the interactive crashes that the previous versions always had, at least for Mac users. I tend to use the Viewport version more as I like being able to click directly and select an object.

Curious if anyone else has noticed more crashes using the Interactive render options? I might go back to v8 and see if I am remembering things correctly.

[C4D] General Discussion / Stuck on Calculating Displacement

So I've worked with this scene before. I even posted about the best way to get a rug texture into a PBR material. Now using Substance Sample which does a pretty nice job. Anyway, I was even able to use the Interactive Viewport with enough speed that it was usable. Yesterday, I downloaded several furniture assets from Cosmos and added to this scene so I could do a quick render with good lighting to show someone. It seems to get stuck on Displacement now. I've let it go for overnight (12 hours) with no success. I then deleted all the proxies of the new models and romoved their materials. Same thing. Stuck on Calculating Displacement. I quit any app that uses a lot of RAM. Rebooted for a fresh start. Same thing. Downgraded from v9 Daily to v8 Hotfix 1. Same problem. Tried two versions of C4D. No luck.

I can easily go back to the original scene so it's not the end of the world. I'm just looking for advice on troubleshooting this problem for any future project that I can't afford to start over.

I am getting an opportunity to create some realistic stills and animations for a rug designer. The plan is to buy some nice 3D rooms (have several picked out already, even some C4D and Corona-ready) and replace the existing rug with my client's design. Mostly likely not too close, but close enough to see texture.

My main issue is getting a rug sample into a nice looking 3D material. The attached rug materials were created with a rug sample I found online, and I used Photoshop to generate a Displacement and Normal map. Somehow it comes out OK, but not as good as I was hoping. In addition, Photoshop will be dropping those 3D filters soon. This scene is just a simple one I setup using a few Chaos models, but it gets the idea across. I've seen Materialize which looks pretty good, just have to Boot into Windows to use it. Tried using the Wine app to get it running on my Mac, but I think it doesn't like the current Mac OS.

I even tried to extract the 3D depth data from my iPhone photo, but it's very low-res in the sense that it is good for large items with large distances between. Shooting a rug only gave me a mostly flat grat image with not detail.

So I'm looking for suggestions on how best to create PBR texture set for rugs. Any advice is appreciated.

I stumbled upon this really nice dynamic clay material done in Cycles for Blender. I haven't tried to recreate it yet, but thought for sure this can also be done in Corona. Any thoughts?

[C4D] General Discussion / Can't Use Denoise All of a Sudden

I'm doing a :10 sec. animation and denoising won't turn on. I have it set to Intel at .9 in the render settings, but in the VBF, it is off and can't click it on. I just did a one frame test and the history shows Denoising: 0:00:00.

Never seen this before. Any ideas?

I understand how to use the Light Mix system and have in the past with still images. Pretty amazing tool. My question is, can I render an animation once and, utilizing Light Mix, save out the same animation with two separate light setups so I don't have to render the animation again?

Let's say I want the same animation with a bright sun coming in the window, and I also want an evening animation as well.

Just got a notice from people at The Pixel Lab and they finally are offering Corona materials in addition to their nice Redshift and Octane stuff. $69 for 100 materials. Always high-quality products from those guys.

I'm running MacOS 12.1 Monterey and Corona v8.

I know for years, Corona has had bugs with Mograph and Motion Blur. I figured I'd try out a little motion blur again, but using Scatter.

In this image, the car is animated in a straight line enough to get the blur. The camera is a child of the car so obviously moves right along with it.

Looks like the Scattered clones are blurred as they should be. As well as the road object. Where I have a question is the car. I set the blur to be Enable Camera. In my photographer head, this should blur everything EXCEPT the car since the car is "still" relative to the camera, but as you can see, the car is also blurred. Am I thinking about this wrong as far as Corona goes? Am I missing something?
