Sorry it's taken so long. I was still working with some legacy projects. I have started some fresh projects and I'm still having the same issue - sun detaches from target.
Everything worked as it should quite a long way into the project however the problem has just started again.
I will go back through the previously saved versions and see if I can see when the problem started.

OK. Will start taking notes and report back with findings.
Thanks

Hi
I couldn't find my original post on this subject but I was told that this issue was going to be fixed in Hotfix 1.
Unfortunately it still happens. Not all the time, but sometimes.
Any ideas?

OK. Good to know. Thanks you.

[Max] I need help! / Re: Corona Edge Map

Ok. Thanks!

I have been given a 3dsmax project to work with. It's an old project that I worked on in Corona 10 and never had any issues with the Sun.
Now when I open the file the sun has dettached itself from the target and is pointing the wrong way.
I can merge the old sun in from a previous version and work with that so long as I stay in the same session. If I close and restert Max, the sun breaks again.
Is anyone else find this since they moved to Corona 11 or is it just me?

[Max] I need help! / Corona Edge Map
« on: 2024-01-26, 13:54:08 »
Could someone please tell me how to use this map?
I can only get it to work on polygons with zero thikness. It doesn't work on an extruded spline even when height is set to zero and it definately doesn't work on a box.
Maybe I'm trying to use it for the wrong thing - adding dirt and streaks. I have been using the AO map but wanted to see if this was better/easier.
Thanks

Take a look at the Cororna Render Benchmark results. Type the CPU name in the search box and compare.
For a larger comparision, do the the same with Vray benchmark results (more CPUs have been tested there) and also on this link for a general comparison: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/

That said, have you considered an AMD CPU?

[Max] General Discussion / Re: Max extremely slow to close
« on: 2023-11-14, 09:53:24 »
Found this thread whilst looking for a solution for the same issue - 3dsmax very slow to close, mostly with scenes with lots of layers, textures etc.
The solution I found, which has already been suggested, is to use the Prune Scene script. I have just tested a scene that took around 2 nminutes to close. I ran the prune scene script and it then took only 1 second to close. It's a paid for script but well worth the money and you get free updates. It also has active/passive virus/malware detection which has saved me a couple of times.
I'm not saying this will help eveyone, but it did the trick for me. Just be careful how you use it!

As a side note, I used to work with Vray and don't recall having this issue...

Hardware / Re: New PC 7950x vs 7950x3d
« on: 2023-04-25, 16:39:05 »
I looked into this a little while back. In the end the conclusion of most of the reviews I read at the time were that the standard 7950x was better for work (rendering etc) and the 3D version was better for games.
Your choice.

Sounds good.
So just to clarify, will all the existing materials in the existing corona library appear in cosmos?
Currently cosmos isn’t as extensive as the material library.
Thanks

Just found this on another thread. I think it’s more eloquent than my post.

“ But in my opinion, do not buy last-gen. If you can't afford 7950X + DDR5, get Raptor Lake. The single-thread performance improvement are the best thing ever for fast, smooth workflow. It's so much more important than rendering time. Rendering time on workstation are meaningless, it's still hours for high quality still, it will still get rendered over-night. Few seconds on benchmark here or there don't matter that much in grand scheme, but faster work does. “

Also, the 79503D is launching soon which should give a small uplift on the standard 7950x.

I appreciate that I haven’t answered your initial question but I thought this route might be worth considering. So, 7950x for workflow then pass over to 3990x for big renders (or for DR).

If you can hang on a bit, the 79503D will launch soon.  Not sure if it will be an improvement for corona so might want to wait for reviews.

Hardware / Re: Using two Workstations efficient or not?

Keep both.
You can use the older machine for distributed rendering to speed up rendering for large images, or use as render node for single images.
I have a few old machines I use for DR when I’m in a tight spot and need stuff rendered really quickly.
