I think I know what your problem is. But to be sure I understood right: Are you using a Mask RE for your trees or have you set up an RGB-pass: A render with 'solid' red, green and blue shaders combining 3 masks within an rgba-render?
Screenshot would be great, too. thanks

Hi. You really should render exr and use the render-elements. RPF/RLA is a dinosaur- I'm surprised that anyone still uses it all. No wonders you're encountering problems.
Maybe I'm wrong and there are still reasons to work with the G-Buffers. In this case I would love to know why.

16 ram banks: that's attractive. https://geizhals.de/asrock-rack-ep2c602-4l-d16-90-sxg0k0-a0uayz-a1040150.html
340€. Not bad at all. Thank you.

Probably not, thank you very much. Maybe I'm going with this one- although I'm not too fond of Asrock-boards. It is reall y a good price.

Hardware / alternative for asus z9pa-D8
« on: 2017-11-11, 15:57:25 »
I built two identical e5-2670 nodes(following more or less Juraj's model) with the asus-z9pa-D8 mb, which comes without any neat features, but I bought them for ~280€, which is a good price for a dual cpu mb I think.
I still have a pair of this xeons left and I'm up to build the third node. Unfortunately these asus boards are gone. I can't find them anymore.
Can you recommend a cheap mb as an alternative? Thank you.

Render Token will yield $477 a day for 7 GPU rig, that seems like a good option for mining https://twitter.com/JulesUrbach/status/908882461307789312

just saw this article about the render token on fxguide: https://www.fxguide.com/featured/more-than-a-token-effort-at-rendering-with-blockchain/

Guys, thank you all for your comments.
Yes, with my poor hardware you are right saying: Better don't touch it. With the Ethereum charts bouncing high and low- It was roughly 300€ in June, 150 in July and back to 300 in August- using a cost calculator is quite useless. And anyway: It only would be a few bucks/month. But I think bitcoin mining wasn't so much fun back in the days either, right? I'd like to see it as a bet that the other crypto-currencies evolve eventually like bitcoin.
But you're probably right: it's not worth it.
Damn, and I got no big rendering project on the horizon and I love heating through rendering so much in the wintertime :D

Anybody with experience in Crypto-Mining? My hardware capacity utilisation is far from being good. In fact I had done more onsite jobs than remote jobs in the last years. This means that my 3 render nodes(dual e5-2670) and the geforce1070 of my WS are doing nothing most of the time. I am in germany and electricity is quite expensive, so it is probably not the best idea to get ridiculous rich. It's more like a bet. That ethereum and monero will evolve like the bitcoin.
The idea would be: Mining monero on the xeons. And ethereum on 1070.
Any thoughts, insights on this? Greatly appreciated, thank you

[Max] I need help! / Re: PNG Library Internal Error

probably sprayer means 'Umlaute'(ä,ü,ö). Sometimes software freaks out when encountering this.
If this remains unsolved: What about sgi's? When I render something different than exr I also choose png, but in the past I used sgi's too. You might give it a shot.

- Render 16bit exr with black background in Max.

You're rendering on a non-black bg?

What would be great is to be able to "render" transparent pixels... Sort of premultiplied alpha, but not during the saving picture process (it already exists when PNG is used for ex.),
but the Photoshop-way :

That is why the Photoshop-like transparent background is needed, i can't use any arbitrary background except a 128grey as a medium-range one...

the 'Photoshop-like transparent bg needed' is only a visual interpretation of a black alpha channel. That's all.
asking for transparent pixel rendering shows a misconception of the premultiply thing.

https://limnu.com/premultiplied-alpha-primer-artists/
I only had a brief look into it, but it seems ok.

I had a very hard and long time myself fully understanding the concept of premultiplied/unpremultiplied. But after I got it I never complained about 'fringes' or 'contours'.

Key is to know what you've got: Pre or unpremultiplied images.
When you will need to know what the software getting the images expect to get:  Pre or unpremultiplied images.
And if this mismatches you'll either have to to tell the software otherwise or use a premultiply/unpremultiply operation.
Hope this helps a bit...

As I remember it, this max-bug is completely random. It happens in one scene- the next scene works fine.

Uh. I had some trouble in the beginning as well. But, i can't remember the details- getting old.
You have to watch the log-files closely. If you don't succeed, open a support ticket at RR. They will help you.

Thanks a million for that. I'm very sorry if I gave the impression of being very familiar with tonemapping in general and specifically with the ACES-stuff.
But in a nutshell: The controls(tA,tB...) where can I read a description of what they do?

..oh, that's sounds interesting. I would give it a try....
