Today, May 20, 2025, is a big day! We're excited to introduce our new industry-focused suite offerings tailored to meet the specific needs of professionals in Architectural Design, Architectural Visualization, and Media & Entertainment (M&E).

Each suite has been carefully put together to deliver the essential tools needed to support and enhance workflows unique to each industry. These are organized into three distinct tracks, and make it easy for users to select the right combination of tools from Chaos’ comprehensive portfolio, simplifying our product lineup by providing a targeted, cost-effective, and easy-to-manage toolset, eliminating the complexity (and expense) of purchasing individual products.

As another part of this transition, our fixed-to-one-device licenses (e.g. Corona Solo) are being retired and replaced by named licenses, which means you'll have full freedom to choose where you use your Chaos products (so, you are not locked to one machine, and can move from machine to machine - though still just one machine at a time for each license, of course).

The suite most relevant to the Corona community is the Corona ArchViz Collection, which features everything in Corona Premium plus Chaos Vantage and Anima too, at a price which is noticeably less than purchasing everything separately - just in time for Corona 13 next month which is planned to have the ability to render animations from 3ds Max or Cinema 4D through Chaos Vantage via the use of the Live Link.

To make changes to your subscription, visit my.chaos.com, or contact your preferred reseller.

News / Chaos Corona 12, update 2 — now available
« on: 2025-04-23, 16:36:49 »

Chaos Corona 12, update 2 released for both 3ds Max & Cinema 4D
Corona 12, update 2 is primarily a technical release for some backend changes that needed to be made, but we're including some features that were being developed for Corona 13 and happen to be ready!

Full details: chaos.com/blog/corona-12-update-2
Download: my.chaos.com/download/build?product=Corona

What's new in Corona 12, update 2:
  • Chaos Scans are now available in Cosmos. Your favorite collection of 3,100+ scanned materials, now at your fingertips in Chaos Cosmos — making your workflow smoother than ever. Around 200 new archviz focused materials are also being added.
  • Automatic Virtual Tours. Generate immersive panorama virtual tours automatically with the new Auto Hotspots.
  • Per camera Global Volume Material override. Lets you set different global volume materials for each camera.
  • Differential Ray Filtering. Development of this was required for Toon Shading coming in Corona 13. It sharpens textures seen through refraction, some reflections, and in some special camera projections such as Spherical.
  • Faster IR Parsing when scrubbing on the timeline in 3ds Max. When you move to a different frame on the timeline with IR running, Corona no longer reparses the entire scene but instead only reparses any animated objects. Developing this was required for rendering via the Vantage Live Link in Corona 13. (Notes: does not affect final rendering, and was not required in Cinema 4D as it already does something similar)
  • New Minimap in the Corona Node Material editor in Cinema 4D. Now you can navigate around your materials with ease.
  • Converter improvements in Cinema 4D. Now converts V-Ray Clipper, V-Ray Triplanar, V-Ray Twosided material, V-Ray Blend material, V-Ray Geometry tag, V-Ray Proxy, V-Ray Decal, and V-Ray Enmesh.
  • And much more!
We also want to thank Iraban Dutta for 18 new LUTs included with the Corona installation - for any inquiries or further information, please contact iraban.3d@gmail.com, or advancedschoolofvray@gmail.com, or through https://www.youtube.com/@advancedschoolofvray

Chaos Corona 12 Update 2 (Release Candidate 1) is out now for 3ds Max!
Everyone with an active license has access.

Download Instructions and Change logs:
3ds Max

A Release Candidate is close to being the final release, but we need your feedback to catch any remaining bugs or other issues from real-world testing.

Some of the major features in Corona 12 Update 2:
Corona 12 Update 2 is a technical release, to take care of some back-end changes that need to be done. While features were not the main consideration this time around, several items being worked on for Corona 13 later this year just happen to be finished and tested and are useful on their own, so we've included them in this release!
  • Support for 3ds Max 2026
  • You won't need to wait for the entire scene to reparse when scrubbing on the timeline with IR running (a feature that is required for the upcoming render via Vantage using the Live Link in Corona 13; as a note, Cinema 4D does not need this improvement)
  • Start and Stop the Live Link to Vantage from the Corona toolbar, and verify progress via the new progress bar
  • Let Chaos Collaboration generate the hotspots for your Virtual Tours, so that they are even easier to set up
  • Textures seen through refraction are now sharper (under conditions when they should be sharper ;) ) thanks to Ray Differential Filtering (a feature that is required for the upcoming Toon Shading in Corona 13)
  • Each camera can now have its own independent Global Volume Material assigned
  • The Depth of Field Highlight Solver has had further improvements, working with reflected highlights and some refracted highlights
  • Chaos Scans are moving to Cosmos - this release will support that as soon as the Scans materials are migrated

Please test as much as possible and report your findings to us, this will help us make Corona 12 Update 2 ready for release as quickly as we can!

Dear Forum Community,

We wish to share this important update to Chaos Licensing as the server certificate will expire on January 28, 2025.

To ensure uninterrupted access to your licenses, you must update your Chaos License Server by January 28, 2025. Failure to do so will result in the loss of access to your licenses.

What you need to do:
  • Option 1: Update the Corona to the latest version. Your Chaos Licensing system will update automatically.

  • Option 2: If updating to the latest version isn’t an option, you can independently update the license server by following this detailed guide.

Thank you for your cooperation! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Chaos Support

More than ever we welcome your suggestions! The only thing that has changed is how to send those to us, please use Corona Ideas Portal. This works with your Chaos Account, that you already use for Corona, so no need to use your forum credentials there.

You can find more information in this forum post. We look forward to hearing from you!

Hello! We are excited to announce that we have launched the new Corona Ideas Portal as a way for you to let us know what features you would like to see added to Corona!

This will make it easier for you to submit feature requests, add transparency on both what feature requests are out there and on their status, and make it far easier to vote on what you most want to see. Here are the important things you need to know:

  • No new sign up is required. It uses your Chaos login, which you already have and use for Corona.

  • Ideas will be visible to everyone. You can vote (once) on any Idea, and you can vote on as many Ideas as you like. This will be far easier than having to write “+1” as a forum reply (and for us, far easier to count!)

  • Every Idea will have a comments section, so that there can be conversation amongst the community or with the product team.

  • When you type the name of your Idea, it will make some guesses and suggest already existing Ideas to save on duplicates, which is far easier than trying to search the forum to see if the suggestion was already made. A quick look through already submitted ideas before posting yours is still worthwhile though!

  • There is a short help article on the site, under the Guide button (note that this is general for all the Ideas Portals, rather than specific to Corona). See the attached image for where to find this button in the Portal.

  • It is expected and deliberate that Ideas will NOT be immediately visible on the board when you submit them. New ideas are visible only to our team and the person who submitted them.
This gives us a chance to catch duplicates and merge them, before people start voting on the second or third posting of the same Idea :) It also gives us a chance to review them and give them an appropriate starting status. Ideas will be reviewed and moved from New at least once per week, and more often if possible.

  • Talking of the possible statuses, you can see those on the Guide page, but to cover them here they will be:
    • New: You just submitted it, and only you and the Corona team can see it.
    • Pending: We have to review it to see if and when it can be done, whether it makes sense, etc. It is possible for an Idea to remain in this status for a very long time, as we never want to forget any suggestion even if we’re not able to schedule it just yet.
    • Planned: The Idea will be developed as part of an upcoming release - may not be the very next release mind you! But we intend to work on this and get it into a final release.
    • Released: It’s out in an official release. This will be used not just for Ideas that get developed, but also if someone submits an Idea that has already been done in an earlier version (which we’ll mention in a comment when setting it to Released).
    • Declined: Very rare, only if something is either literally or practically impossible (e.g. an example of practically impossible is that it could be done, but would need all the devs working on nothing else for 3 years - technically possible, but not possible in a practical sense).
Corona for Blender, and Corona GPU would be requests that get Declined, for example (sorry).
Also, please do not submit bug reports on this system, those too will get declined - instead, please submit all bugs via ticket at https://support.chaos.com/requests/new .
If something is Declined, we will always give a reason.
    • Accepted: Not currently used on the Corona Ideas Portal (though you will see it on the Guide page).

  • On the left of the page you will find the three categories - Corona for 3ds Max, Corona for Cinema 4D, and Scatter. Note that Scatter will show submissions from all users of Chaos Scatter, not just Corona users.
You don’t need to worry if the Idea you are submitting for Corona for 3ds Max is already requested in Corona for Cinema 4D, or the other way around. Both products are listed separately, as the same Idea could have a different status for the two versions. If you do spot the idea is listed for the other application, it would be helpful if you could include the link to that idea in the description of yours.

  • You’ll find sub-categories under each of the two versions, such as whether your request is for Cameras, Lights, Geometry, etc. Naturally some requests might seem to belong under more than one category, and in those cases don’t worry about which one you submit it under! For example, you might view “final renders with different image dimensions for each different camera” as either Cameras, or as Rendering, and it doesn’t matter which you submit it under.
There’s a tooltip for each sub-category to give guidance of the kinds of things that would fall under it, and there is always the Other sub-category if you are really not sure where your idea belongs!

Please note that the feature request sections of the forum will be closed for starting new threads, starting on August 26th, with a pinned post directing everyone to the new Ideas Portal.

We’ll do our best over time to set up Ideas for feature requests already posted on the forum, but despite our best intentions this will likely be limited. My suggestion is that if a feature request made on the forum is of particular importance to you, don’t wait for us to move it over but feel free to set up an Idea to cover it. Of course if you don’t have time to “post again” we totally understand and will be trying to capture existing ideas, at very least the most major ones.

This is a bit of a transition time, while we all get used to the new and improved system, so please bear with us! Thank you!
