[Max] Bug Reporting / Re: Corona 12 Major Memory Leak
« on: 2024-09-30, 19:16:34 »
The question here is still the same - is this actually a memory leak (ie it starts low and then over time it keeps using more and more memory, suggesting something is taking more memory without freeing up memory it is done with), or just excessive memory usage (ie it gets this high almost as soon as the scene starts rendering)? (and can you send in the offending scene via ticket, would be great to have an example on hand we can test with :) https://support.chaos.com/requests/new )

General CG Discussion / Re: 3D Gaussian Splatting

Trello just got updated on Friday, with the things we have some level of confidence in for the next release :) Others to be added if we hit a level of confidence in them being ready. The update is purely on the next release, longer term plans are not updated (and won't be until after the 12 Update 1 release in November, as that is when we'll have a clearer picture for next year).

With the work completed on integrated it into V-Ray, we will be considering this for next year in Corona, as in theory all the hard lessons have been learned by the V-Ray team ;) Naturally not possible to do it this year, as our release this year has been mapped out for some time.

And not to forget that Corona can render quite a few V-Ray materials without any conversion :) You just can't edit them is the thing.

What image format are you saving to? EXR, PNG, JPG, etc?

[C4D] I need help! / Re: Video textures
« on: 2024-09-30, 13:16:38 »
See
for how to use Cryptomatte (main difference since this video is we added by material as an option).

The technique listed in the post should work, can you share the scene, or at least screen grabs that show the set up of materials and objects? What happens when you use that approach? Do note that in the thread there it seemed only some videos or video formats would load properly for the user in question, have you checked other video formats?  Thanks!

It is sounding like there is an issue with 3ds Max itself, see the message here from the community https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=43590.msg228057#msg228057 which reports this happening with other render engines too.

If the word on the street is correct, this is a 3ds Max issue - as reported in https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=43590.msg228057#msg228057 (the details in that message was taken from information on Facebook).

Excellent, thank you! Much appreciated :)

You can specify where it gets saved, so it does depend on which option you are using to send the scene to Vantage. The recommended way is the one where you do pick the file location, rather than have the system do it for you - see
t=237

Tickets are raised at https://support.chaos.com/requests/new (the "contact us" in the Corona team's signatures also goes there)

Are you passing the environment lighting (e.g. HDRI or Corona Sky) through the Tone Mapping Control? This is what makes the env. lighting unaffected by tone mapping. One thing to note is that you have to restart the render to get the "unaffected" look (so, render, adjust lighting, env lighting appears to be altered, but restart the render and env lighting goes back to the unaffected). https://docs.chaos.com/display/CRMAX/Corona+Tonemap+Control+Map

[Max] I need help! / Re: Vantage, Corona and New GPU
« on: 2024-09-24, 19:13:36 »
From a 1070 to a 4070 Ti will be a big upgrade (also, I believe that is a good choice in terms of cost / performance, at least in my personal opinion). Yes it will help with Vantage, quite a lot. It should also help quite a lot of with V-Ray GPU. It won't make any real difference for Corona, as the only use of the GPU there is in the NVIDIA Denoising if you are using it, and that is pretty darn fast on any GPU and a tiny fraction of any render time. Hope that clarifies where it will help!

PS - your games will run better too ;)

Hahaha well the community is unanimous in wanting that roadmap updated! I hear y'all loud and clear :) Definitely this week, hopefully tomorrow (the 25th). I am just getting confirmation from the devs on what is looking like it ought to be in, and what still has some uncertainty so we won't talk about it yet to avoid disappointment (of course even the things that do get listed are still plans and not promises - all is on track for now with what will be on the roadmap, but the nature of development is that can get unexpectedly derailed at any time).

I am looking forward to letting you all know about our plans!
