I've had a try to create the situation but can't. This is part of the problem. It tends to happen and it's something that makes no sense so when I'm checking my renders I don't tend to notice. Then I'll get the client saying "why's that logo red?" or something and it's because I pasted it in from another brief and it had the same name "Physical" or whatever.

Next time it happens I'll try to remember to collect the files and send them. Can I put wetransfer links on this forum?

Hi. I'll see if I have time to do this in a bit. Will send you over a file. :)

Thanks, just clicked that box on the boolean worked!
This wasn't my model by the way, I was adapting it to use Corona materials then had to carry out some amends.
I'll try and remember that in future! Thanks. :)

Surely there's nothing wrong with a lathe?

Hello. Well, I did think this but I've tried it with a lathe - the the same effect...!

It does have about 2mm thickness indeed.
I'll have a look at the shader and see what adjustments need to be made. Thought 'glass' would generally work on anything made from glass!

hello. on this issue, I have some bell jars. when I place the bell jar over the item the refraction is CRAZY. It looks like the whole thing is full of water or something. I've attached a screenshot and a rudimentary file. Can someone help? You'll have to drop an HRDI into the scene to light it perhaps.... (mine's too big).

[C4D] I need help! / Translucency on Mult-Pass Masks
« on: 2024-04-25, 12:00:59 »
Hi. I have a quick query.
A lot of the things I do are retail concepts. A lot of these feature a clear acrylic case/tank/box to stop theft. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.
Sometimes (more often than not) the client would like to see the display on a completely white page.
So, if I do this and set a muti-pass mask it'll do a solid block alpha channel of the whole unit. Whatever was behind the clear acrylic tank/case in the original render will be shown.
Is there a way of creating a more 'in depth' mask that captures the translucency of the material so I can overlay the visual on to any background?
See below for an image of the results I'm getting at the moment - branding and product blurred out because of NDA's etc...

A workaround I can do at the moment is put a white box right behind the boxes but it's not ideal!

Thanks @ Beanz
I assume this will work fine.
Thanks again :)

@Beanz

Here's the scene.... I've left out the HDRI as it's too large.

Thanks in advance.

100%.
It's not difficult for the program to say "it's got the same name but IS it the same material? No? Let's import it as a new material" just like with any other material...

[C4D] I need help! / Instances with Decals. Problem

Hello. I've recently noticed that when I have an object that involves a decal if I make an instance of it, the decal will not render. it's clearly in the structure of the model and it's even in the wireframe preview but it doesn't render out.

Is this a known bug? Am I doing something wrong?

See below for screenshots of details.

Hello.
I'm on version 11.
I've since realised it's when you paste something in which has materials of the same name. It'll sometimes 'merge' them. Which is disastrous in most cases if you're like me and don't name all of your textures....
I'll have a look at that other build when I get a moment.
