Thanks everyone- When I get back to it, I'll take a look at what both Frood and Avi have pointed out.

Maru- They're all connected through Cat6 and a 10port network switch.

Hi -

I've searched the forums for previous issues, whcih seemed to plague early Corona versions more than newer ones. At this point none of the fixes from those posts seem to have worked, but I may be overlooking something. I have the 3 logs attached here (Corona, DR, Max).

Backstory: I use my main computer and two slaves for DR. I haven't used the slaves since upgrading my main computer for Corona 11. I believe they were last used during some build of Corona 9? I updated both slaves to the same builds of both Max and Corona as my main computer. Since I've been needing to use DR the last few days, both slaves get stuck in a parsing and restarting loop. I've tried large files (1.5gb) to small files (a few MB). All paths to all drives are shared and connected. The slaves use the same plugins as the main computer. I'm at a loss at the moment.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks--

Hi all-

Extremely long time user of Corona, now an extremely disappointed one. It's been two and a half years of updates and we've still not heard a word on this development? On top of that, a HEFTY monthly price increase with no solution? This isn't a minor inconvenience, it's at the core of what I would imaging hundreds if not thousands of viz artists use as a workflow, including my own.

Long time devoted users deserve an answer and even more importantly, a true update to fix this permanently.

This is a giant limitation for those who work with Sketchup. I don't understand what's changed behind the scenes, but previous converters in previous Max releases have worked fine.

Since updating to Corona 6 hotfix 1 and Max 2021, no imported sketchup models have been able to convert physical to corona mtl. The workaround mentioned is as good as applying a blank material to your entire model, which obviously ruins the possible hundreds of materials and maps previously set up in Sketchup.

My "workaround" to this huge problem now is to use Max2021 scene converter and set the rule to convert Physical mats to Vray MTL, then run the Corona Converter to convert to corona mtl.

Hope this gets fixed ASAP.

Haha totally - go dev team!

Yes, the gamma change is a problem, but at least we know what was happening. And who knows...maybe there is some workaround in the future for it.

YOU are a GENIUS!

1000  thank you's for taking the time to follow up on this. This will be a huge help in quite a number of projects moving forward.

[Max] Feature Requests / Re: VFB - region activated
« on: 2018-09-14, 22:10:53 »
I was JUST about to start a new thread about this and decided to see if anyone else had similar problems. I just wasted about an hour trying to "debug" my scene when it was rendering black because apparently I clicked a pixel-sized region accidentally while working... When the region is that small, the red box doesn't show up AND there's no notification that a region is used. I damn near uninstalled corona and reinstalled before disabling regions in the VFB.

Even if you could code the VFB to highlight the "Render Region" button to make it known there's an active region, that would be a huuuuuge help.

Thanks!

Gotcha - thank you either way!

Thanks maru for your help. This does seem like a workaround as disabling AA won't be great for many other edges and details in the image. Hopefully a technical explanation will come along too! I don't have a Vray license unfortunately so I can't test in another platform, but it would be interesting.

Thanks again!

No worries! Just curious

Thanks

Hi - just wondering if there's been any update on this behind the scenes?

Thanks!

Thanks! Uploaded now. Looking forward to hearing back...

Wow thanks for all the replies and tests! I think I see what you're getting at, and I had the same experience - Whether the diffuse slot is a white text on black bitmap OR it's a layered material with an alpha (inverted or not), the result is the same.

The highlight compression is an interesting note - not sure if there's a definitive reason, but my highlight compression typically around 5-10 depending on the scene, so this isn't floating around the 0-1-2's like you tested. I'd assume the "growing" effect of the white on black gets worse the lower the compression value.

I can privately send you a pared down scene to test, for sure. New to the forums though so let me know the best way to do that.

Thanks again for all the help.

Interesting!

A few more tests here. It seems changing the image filter works in favor a bit, however does introduce unwanted aliasing on some edges of the product itself. The tests done are standard (Tent 2px), Sharper (Tent  1.5px) and Sharpest (Blackman-Harris 1px). Blackman absolutely worked the best for text, but introduced the most jagged aliasing on other geo. NOW what's more interesting about all this is if I undo the "invert" on the alpha mask to bring it back to its original white background, black text, the text is the most sharp and delicate even while using the standard Tent @ 2px.......

The final test is the bottle with a corona bitmap as the base material, and not a layered alpha. This still seems to keep the text a bit "bulky"

All those attached...

Thanks Tom!

I'll go one by one:

Can't share the original input image unfortunately, but rest assure it's as basic as it gets. White background with crisp black text from Illustrator.

- I tried every blur setting down to .01
- I can definitely do a test with the text as the single material...I'll upload results
- No post effects, blur or sharpen
- The bitmap is 4k and from a print EPS (and again, works fine when it's black text on white bottle)
- No denoising
- No change to default image filter settings
