Hi,

and thanks for the reply :-)

I know Corona is a biased renderer and hardly to compare to non-biased renderer. But this behavior becomes really problematic when rendering product zoom animations in high resolution where the mesh takes most of the time only 10% of the whole image. The region selection speeds up the rendering a lot, and we´re talking here about 30-50 times faster, but that´s not usable for animations. And changing the region every frame by hand for hundreds of frames is not working either. And render farms do not support region selections, so they have to render the whole image which increases the costs also a lot.

What I don´t understand is the following: Rendering a single object in high res without region selection takes almost forever compared to the render time with region selection, but the rendered object does not look any different then when it was rendered without region selection. And here is my question: Why does Corona renders the whole screen, even when there is nothing to be rendered and the outcome is´nt any different? Even rendering only the selected object does not make any difference?!

Don´t get me wrong, I´m not complaining about Corona at all! I just think there is still room for improvement. And increase the render speed in such situations about 30-50 times seems to me worth the time :-)

Best regards,
Nupsi

[Max] I need help! / Why does an empty scene renders slow?
« on: 2017-05-02, 09:20:48 »
Hi,

I´m testing 1.6RC2 right now and wonder why an empty scene after a fresh 3ds max (2015) start renders slow? There are no objects or lights at all in the scene, but setting the output size to 4096x4096 Corona needs 20 sec. to render 10 passes. And it even gets worse when adding some render elements which makes Corona take 30 sec. to render 10 empty passes?!

Is this a normal behavior? It seems that Corona renders the whole scene, even when there is nothing to render?!

Thanks in advance,
Nupsi

[Max] General Discussion / Re: Rent to own-Subscription?!

Hi maru,

and thanks for the reply! The monthly subscription is a great solution for artists who needs Corona only now and then but for bigger projects. I do use Corona very differently. Sometimes very often but only for a few hours and sometimes very rare but for a long time. For the last part the monthly sub is a great deal, but for the remaining time the monthly sub just does´nt fit because I would have to pay the full month even if I need Corona only for 1 or 2 hours.

I´d love to buy the boxed version without subscription but I can´t find any infos about how much I would have to pay for an upgrade to a newer version?! Also all the bonuses and discounts are applicable only to subs which makes the boxed version without sub even more unattractive.

That´s where the rent-to-own or "sub-to-own" idea came up, which would be the perfect fit for everybody whose usage time is as unsteady as mine. It would combine the benefits of both, the boxed version which could be used for very small projects and the monthly sub which would became very handy for larger and longer projects.

Best regards,

[Max] General Discussion / Rent to own-Subscription?!

Hi there,

I´m torn between buying the boxed version (more expensive but still yearly payments) and subscription (sweet and cheap, but you have to pay forever). Both options do not fit very well to my work, because 3D-Design is just a small part of my freelance-work. Maybe for people like me there is a third option possible called "Rent to own-Subscription" as Allegorithmic offers with its Substance Live. In a nutshell: You pay on a monthly basis (even pauseable) and if your payments reaches the full price (ie of the Boxed Version) you own it and could use it even after you stop or pause the subscription.

The benefits for people like me, who do not work as fulltime 3D-Artists, would be that buying Corona would become much, much more attractive!

I would love to hear other opinions and of course what the staff thinks about a rent to own-Subscription :-)

Best regards
Nupsi
P.S.: Please excuse my poor english ;-)

I had to switch back to MentalRay completely to be able to get my work done in time :-( It´s such a shame, because I really love Corona. Especially coronas scatter-engine was a delight to work with and I could´nt await the final release! Hopefully there will be full Colimo-support some day or another working solution...

Ok, I´ll try to be patient ;-) And thanks for the reply!

Hi Keymaster,

any news about Motiva Colimo-Support?

Thanks and best regards,

Hey Tanakov,

and you´re right, he did. But I think it´s still ok to ask nicely if there´s a rough time table.

@Keymaster
Thanks for the info. Glad to hear that you´re already in the process of implementing it! May I ask for a rough time table....with cream and cherry on top?! ;-D
Still no news about supporting Motiva Colimo, Keymaster? :-(

I really do like the lighting of the scene! The clothes on the other side are indeed a little like cement and nothing max could´nt do just as easely. In my opinion MD is a little overrated tool compared with maxes cloth-modifier. Just my 2 cents ;-)

It looks pretty well, is there some performance hit ? Or it's just passes so rather minimal ?
It´s just a very clever way of using render passes, Juraj. So Motiva itself works in realtime. The rendering of the necessary passes in 3ds max takes a while though. But after that is done, you can change textures, lighting, colors etc. on the fly.

Hi Ondra,

any news about supporting Motiva Colimo (http://www.motivacg.com/en/colimo/)?  I´m in the middle of a contract work and would love to use corona for the final rendering! It´s kinda hard to switch back to MR for colimo-projects, after using corona ;-D

Thanks in advance,
Nupsi

Same problem here! Even if only 5 gigs of 64 are used by max/corona. Win7 reacts very nice, compared to MR, but every now and then Win7 hangs completely, even the mouse cursor freezes for a few seconds (~10) before I can continue to work. Setting max to low priority doesn´t change a thing, which always does while using MR.

Using the Mesher or baking the particles via script works fine. At least for scenes with a low particle-count :-/ I too hope that corona will support pflow soon!
