[Max] I need help! / Re: Render without shadow...
« on: 2017-05-11, 16:23:34 »
Maybe render the environment with a solid color of 128 gray (or lighter if you want). This would give you a uniform lighting, no hard shadows but still some AO. You could plug the HDRi into some of the override slots like Reflection to get some color back in whatever reflections are visible.

[Max] I need help! / cVFB Behavior during IR, Options?
« on: 2017-05-10, 17:01:32 »
The Corona VFB is designed to increase window size to the fit the render size, depending on the zoom. This is great when I'm running a production rendering, but I very frequently zoom in to focus sampling on a small area during IR. When I click back in the VFB after modifying something in the viewport, my window expands to a huge size to fit the zoomed render and restarts the IR. At a size that spans multiple monitors, commonly the rendering jumps to ~3k-4k wide. It's extremely frustrating. Is there a way to disable this in IR or do I just need to be more careful not to click inside the VFB?

Work in Progress/Tests / House In The Woods
« on: 2017-04-14, 05:35:44 »
Hello all,

Here's a personal project I've been working on. I haven't been very social here so I thought this would be a great way to start. I'll try to keep updates somewhat regular.

I have been using this as an opportunity to try using 3d scans and Forest pack to create the woods-y environment. I will be moving on next to bringing the house up to speed. The interior hasn't been modeled so the house was best rendered white. There's also a heavy dose of ArionFX on top of this, another plug-in I've been trying out.

Let me know what you think!

Fantastic, I'll switch to ProEXR. Thank you!

[Max] I need help! / Saving EXR with Background
« on: 2017-03-16, 12:59:22 »
This might be a stupid question and I couldn't find an answer by searching. But is it possible to save an EXR format without the alphas being applied to every layer? I recently started saving my image as EXR and didn't encounter this issue as I started with interiors. Now I have an exterior shot, I can't for the life of me open the file in Photoshop without losing my background. On all render elements.

I use EXR-IO and maybe this is the issue. I haven't tried ProEXR. There is a dialog box upon opening my EXR and if I check "Fix transparent emitters", I get my BG, but on an extremely low opacity and I need to flatten that layer onto a black layer in order to see the background properly. Obviously this isn't ideal but I'll do it if I have to. Am I doing something wrong or is this the nature of EXR format?

How far away are your objects from the world origin (0,0,0 point)?
The object is was within a few feet of the origin.
What kind of object did you add when this started appearing? Was it huge? Did it change world/system units when you loaded it?
I added only a box. The creation of this may have been coincidental with using the orthographic view. I didn't merge or import any objects and I didn't touch the units.
What units are you using in your scene?
Feet with decimal inches.

Sorry I've been busy with a deadline. I have had had problems with proper shading in orthographic mode before. I assumed the renderer just doesn't play nice with that view type. Once I move back to perspective or a physical camera everything works as I expect it to. It's not a big issue for me but hopefully this bug report is helpful to the team.

I was rendering an extremely simple scene with some test geometry. Everything was going perfectly fine, and I added an additional geometry and now the file is permanently wrecked.

See attached for the normal image and one with black artifacts, as well as the Max file.

I'm using DB Dec 13th 2016 and Max Design 2014. I have never had this issue before.

I decided to do a test on a new scene, with default render settings, and the issue appears to be with Corona, not my scene. See "box-same_error". I'm on my work machine and don't have admin privileges so I can test rolling back to an older build until tomorrow morning. Has anyone seen this problem before?

** Update: This only happens in orthographic mode. Which I've always had issues seeing things in interactive while using an ortho view, so this is nothing new. But a bug none the less

In my experience, CoronaAO doesn't translate properly with this conversion script if the AO is in the diffuse slot. I'm not sure if it matters in other parameters, but I can confirm it doesn't work in the diffuse.

I seriously can't wait for this feature!

[Max] I need help! / Re: Loading Corona EXR into VFB

Thanks for the response! I look forward to the standalone release, looks like it'll be immensely helpful.

[Max] I need help! / Loading Corona EXR into VFB
« on: 2016-10-25, 16:18:59 »
I'm curious if it's possible to reload a Corona EXR in the VFB and have control over exposure, lightmix, etc after other images have been rendered. This would be ideal if I were to run a batch render of several views and I could open the EXR to correct any lighting issues. If this has been discussed at length I apologize, I haven't found the thread.

If it helps, I was using 13 photometric lights and getting this behavior.

I have done more testing with photometric lights off and wow, I can't thank you enough. My gi precomp is down to 28 seconds! I'm very new to Corona (switched just this weekend from V-Ray) and am so impressed with the product thus far. You guys have done such an amazing job and I look forward to seeing how far it goes.

Interesting. Turning off the photometric lights did the trick, but also my CPU load seemed capped around 20% with these lights on (typically hovering around 9-10% though) and with them turned off the load will hover around the same 10% range but would spike over 50% load. I'm guessing this is the issue you were referring to about the photometric lights + many CPU issue? Anyway, the precomp is back down to a reasonable and familiar minute and a half. Thank you so much for the help!

I'll try that. But again, this problem wasn't happening before restarting. Everything worked great following a scene conversion. Closing and reopening the file started the issue. Will report back shortly.
