I think simple "trim edges" checkbox in the scatter object, would make more sense - Corona could add edge trimming texmap to the opacity slot internally at render time for user convenience.

Exactly!!! It's a very bad idea to trim edges with such opacity maps. I have like ~10 objects inside my ChaosScatter and a few of them have MultiMaterials with 6-7 mat... You can imagine how painful it is to plug this map to every single material of these objects. Please, do it with checkbox inside the CoronaScatter!

That's right, it has a bump map on it. If I remove it - the noise disappears, but I don't want to remove it. In the animation there are fireflies flickering randomly on this surface, so doesn't it mean the chair is undersampled comparing to the other objects in the scene?

Hi there. While the sampling algorithms are already great and do the job perfectly in 99% cases, there some cases where one object is much more noisy than the other. Sometimes because of its material, sometimes we don't actually know why :) Instead of improving the sampling methods, is it possible to add a spinner value called "Sampling multiplier" in a CoronaMtl (or maybe in the object properties instead of material?) to upsample a specific object?

I'm adding an example of it - the image looks decent except of the black chair, which is pretty noisy.

Thanks for the hints. This scene isn't that heavy and it is more or less optimized. I've just tested it on my 2nd PC and it renders without any issues and the RAM usage isn't that big (about 14 GB for 3dsmax.exe).
I've inspected the page file usage through the performance monitor in Windows and it really looks like there's something going on while the render is starting! It is weird for me, I have about 26 GB of RAM available on my main PC before I start 3ds max... Why is is happening, any ideas?

Hi,
I'm struggling with this issue lately, probably after updating from Corona v3 to v4 (but I'm not 100% sure if that is when it started). I cannot render a scene, it stucks on the computing sec. GI stage, I'm waiting for 20 minutes and nothing is happening, CPU is doing nothing (about 3-5% usage), I have still over 10 GB RAM available.

My PC:
Intel Core i7-5820K
32GB RAM
Windows 8.1
3ds Max 2014 (x46)

Hi,
Sometimes I have some noise on a specific, small region of my render, so I would like to focus rays on my cursor position.
I think that there's no path tracing renderer with such option, and I think it would be so useful!
Take a look:
