Hi, you can now use Corona for ARCHICAD for free, without buying a license. The license will be required once we release a full version.

[ARCHICAD] Resolved Bugs / Re: First contact with CORONA
« on: 2018-11-19, 15:19:12 »
Hi, the issue with color picker is very strange. Can you please describe in detail the steps to reproduce the problem, or take a video?

By the way, the main license type is "FairSaaS": I believe this is just a spam filter on the forum.

[ARCHICAD] Bug Reporting / Re: No alpha at 2D trees
« on: 2018-11-19, 14:58:54 »
H, thank you very much for your feedback! I will look into the issue with 2D trees, this seems to be a bug. As to the Corona Light, could you please explain what you mean by "tedious" and how can we improve the lights?

Okay so I've done a few tests with the plugin so far and I have quite a number of thoughts, request and suggestions, so I decided to group them all in one thread instead of splitting into separate threads.
...

Hi, thank you very much for your thoughs!

  • Cameras
    • Two-point perspective: This seems to be a bug. I quickly tested it in my ARCHICAD and when the two-point perspective is active, Corona correctly renders a two-point perspective, but the field of view is wrong.
    • Image size: you can specify the exact image size in the Corona Render dialog. Unfortunately, it would be technically challenging to synchronize these settings with the ARCHICAD render settings in the PhotoRendering dialog, so you have to copy the values manually at the moment.

As to the aspect ratio, the rendered image is automatically resized to fill the VFB window during interactive rendering. I will add an option to use the same aspect ratio as in the Corona Render dialog.
    • Hiding objects: Generally, adding Corona-specific properties to arbitrary elements in the project is hard. For example, Maxwell solves this problem by using a custom palette that you can use to edit Maxwell-specific properties of elements, but Corona doesn't have such palette at the moment. But it is a good idea! As a temporary solution, you can use ARCHICAD layers to hide elements from rendering.
  • Lights
    • IES files: this is simply not yet implemented, we will definitely support IES in CoronaLight in the future. In the meantime, the IES light from ARCHICAD library should work fine.
    • Light radius: you can use the intensity parameter to control the intensity of the light. The "radius" parameter does not have clear physical meaning.
    • Portals: I will add an option to mark materials as portals. It should help when lighting interior scenes.
    • Grouping lights: you can add multiple lights to a single LightSelect render element. However, due to technical obstacles, the user interface for selecting the lights is very hard to use now.
  • Materials
    • Copy/paste: you can already copy/paste textures and colors by right-clicking them, and numbers can be copied in the usual way. Copying the whole tab is not possible now. I'm not sure how this could be added to the user interface of the editor; do you have an idea?
    • Ambient occlusion, wire/edge texture: both AO and wireshading textures are already implemented in Corona, I will add them to the ARCHICAD plugin.
    • Material wizard: we call this "material presets", something like this or Corona material library will be added to the plugin.
  • General settings
    • Batch mode: this is a good idea, we will see how this could be added.
    • Proxies: you can use .obj and .cproxy files as proxies (.cproxy files can be exported from Corona Proxy in 3ds Max).

Thank you again for your time and your valuable suggestions!

[ARCHICAD] Feature Requests / Re: 3D Grass
« on: 2018-11-19, 13:16:50 »
We are planning to support automatically generated grass on surfaces, similar to the Grass effect in CineRender, but it is not a top priority at the moment.

[ARCHICAD] Feature Requests / Re: Material library
« on: 2018-11-19, 13:14:39 »
Hi, thank you very much for the feedback! Material library support is something we definitely want to do, but it will require much more powerful material editor, probably using nodes (as in Max).

[ARCHICAD] Feature Requests / Re: Material presets
« on: 2018-11-19, 13:12:39 »
Thank you for your suggestion, this is something we considered, but at the moment we are more likely to add the Corona material library instead of material presets. Would that be enough for your use?

Hi,

1. Did the installer complete successfully?
2. Does Corona show up in the Add-On manager in ARCHICAD?

It may happen that your ARCHICAD installation is not detected, in which case the installer displays an error message and copies the add-on files to "C:/Program Files/GRAPHISOFT/ARCHICAD 22/Corona Add-Ons" (depending on your ARCHICAD version). If this happened, you can manually install the add-on by copying the .dll files into the ARCHICAD directory, and the .gmx, .apx and .gdx files into the Add-Ons directory.

[ARCHICAD] Bug Reporting / How to report a bug
« on: 2018-11-15, 10:46:38 »
tl;dr: Be as simple and descriptive as possible. Provide pictures, videos or scenes.

Please follow these guidelines for reporting bugs. Also remember to include your ARCHICAD and Corona version: open “Corona” / “About” from the ARCHICAD menu and copy the version information from the text box.

This is a textual version of the tutorial to get started with Corona Renderer for ARCHICAD. You may wish to watch a video version of the tutorial.

  • Installation: Install the plugin using the downloaded installer. A new “Corona Renderer” menu should appear in the ARCHICAD menu bar.
  • Open a project in ARCHICAD.
  • Rendering: Open the Corona rendering dialog from the menu (“Corona” / “Render”), where you can edit various rendering settings.
    • Click “Start” to start rendering. The Corona VFB appears, which shows the current status of the rendering.
    • By default, Corona does not limit the length of the rendering, so you will have to stop it manually using the “Stop” button.
    • We recommend setting a limit in the “General settings” tab in the rendering settings.
    • Enable denoising by selecting “Full” denoising mode in the “Denoising” box in the “General settings” tab in the rendering settings.
    • You can start interactive rendering by clicking and holding the “Start” button and selecting “Start IR” from the menu.
    • You can modify most postprocessing settings directly in the VFB and they are immediately applied to the image (whether rendering is still in progress, or completed). The most important setting is exposure, which controls the brightness of the image.
  • Environment: By default, Corona uses a realistic sun and sky model, but you can easily supply your own HDRI:
    • Open the “Scene environment” section in the rendering settings.
    • In the “Sun” box, disable the sun by unchecking the “Enable” checkbox.
    • In the “Sky” box select “Use texture” and click the “Tex” button.
    • The Corona texture editor appears.
    • Select “Bitmap” from the drop-down menu a pick your HDR file.
    • Close the texture editor by clicking “Ok”.
  • Materials: To modify the materials (called “surfaces” in ARCHICAD), open the “Surface Settings” dialog (“Options” / “Element attributes” / “Surfaces” from the menu).
    • To edit the Corona materials, select “Corona Renderer” from the drop-down menu.
    • The Corona material is composed from a list of physically-based properties in the “Primary options” section. You may also use advanced properties in the “Volumetrics and SSS” section and in the “Advanced options”.
    • Most properties are composed from a level, a constant color and a texture. If a texture is present, it is evaluated on the surface of the object and the resulting value is then used. If no texture is defined or if it returns transparent color (with alpha value less than 1), the constant color is used. The level value then multiplies the color, making it darker when the level is reduced.
    • The material preview can be rotated (by dragging) and you can select different shapes for the preview object (by right-clicking the preview).
    • If interactive rendering is active when you open the “Surface settings” dialog, you can immediately observe your modifications to the materials there.
  • Textures: textures in the material editor can be edited by clicking the “Tex” button.
    • The diffuse and bump map components are by default initialized with the texture from the ARCHICAD basic material. Of course, you can use any other texture.
    • You can pick other texture types from the drop-down menu under the texture preview. The detailed texture parameters can then be modified in the panel below.
    • Textures can also use nested textures: for example, when using a checkerboard texture, you may use another texture to modify the appearance of the tiles. Click the “Tex” button to edit the nested texture, and use the “Back” button to go back.
    • To change how the texture is mapped to the surface of the elements, use the “Texture placement” box.
  • Lights: Default ARCHICAD lights should work just fine with Corona. We also support native Corona lights.
    • CoronaLight is a special GDL object, which we distribute in file Corona.lcf
    • Corona.lcf is installed into the “ARCHICAD Library” directory in your ARCHICAD installation (usually “C:\Program Files\GRAPHISOFT\ARCHICAD 21\ARCHICAD Library 21”, where you should replace “21” with your ARCHICAD version). ARCHICAD should find this file automatically, but if it does not, add it manually from the Library Manager.
    • The CoronaLight object can be added as other ARCHICAD elements. It supports basic editing with hotspots.
    • Intensity and other parameters can be changed in the element settings.
