Like Mental Ray wasn't crappy enough as is...

If I remember correctly, even if you disable the 'Install the Mental Ray satellite service' checkbox in the 3dsmax installation, it still gets installed and autoloaded.
One must go into services.msc, and set the service to 'Disabled' for startup (and stop the current running instance while you're there).

or just kill the process and delete the files :D
