Hi guys

I currently have a 3970x with 256GB RAM and a GTX 3080 - looking at getting a 5995 to help with the render times and start to do more animations.

I want to keep my 3080 gfx card and put it in this new build as i have an older 2080 sitting around that i can use for it.
I would probably want to go for 256 GB RAM - i believe these can go up to 8 x 256GB RAM if i am not mistaken?

Current specs i could find listed below - what are your thoughts and would you change anything here?  Your help and input would be much appreciated.

CPU: AMD Ryzen ThreadRipper Pro 5995WX 64-Core sWRX8

Ram: 256GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR4 3600MHz PC4-28800 CL18 RGB Octuple Channel Kit (8 X 32GB)

SSD: Samsung 980 PRO M.2 PCI-E Gen4 NVMe SSD 2TB

SSD: Samsung 980 PRO M.2 PCI-E Gen4 NVMe SSD 2TB

Motherboard: MSI WS WRX80 WiFi E-ATX Workstation Motherboard - Threadripper Pro

PSU: Corsair HX1200 1200W 80+ Platinum

Case: Fractal Design Torrent RGB Tempered Glass Light Tint Case Black

CPU cooler: Noctua NH-D15 Multi Socket PWM Chromax Black CPU

[Max] Feature Requests / Render Node Allocation
« on: 2022-08-17, 02:10:56 »
Hi team

I was wondering if it could be possible to send a job to JUST the local render nodes i have and not the main workstation i work on?
This will allow me to continue on working on other scenes - is this at all possible?

Hardware / Hard Drives and Access of Speed to Models & Maps?
« on: 2022-08-12, 08:24:33 »
Hi all

I just wanted to see if there was any improvement i could have on my set up.
Current Specs are below:
Ryzen 3970x
256GB RAM
3080ti
MSI TRX40 PRO WIFI mobo

So as my main C: - where i install my programs, i am using a Samsung 970 Pro M.2.  I mainly use this to install my programs.

I have 2 other drives:
Drive E - which is a 4TB Samsung SSD 860 EVO - now this is where i put all my maps & models.
Drive X - this is a Seagate Ironwolf 8TB - mainly for everything else (pictures/games/phone backups etc etc)

I was was wondering if this is the best and fastest way to get 3DS Max to work with my drives?  I usually get a few bottle necks here and there and was wondering if thats just how it is or because the drives im using arent as quick as they can be?

Any help or guidance much appreciated.

Hi all

I have this common issue where lets say i have a diffuse map, reflection and normal map and its a LEAF atlas downloaded from megascans.  If i wanted to crop/place so that i extract only 1 leaf, i usually do it manually and adjust the map so that its the same co-ordinates for each texture - is there a simpler way to this via a script?  I realise there is the bezier flaot thing that can possibly do this?  but i was hoping there is a script out there to help with this?

Cheers

Hardware / AMD 3970x Cooler Help
« on: 2021-12-06, 02:22:14 »
Hi guys

I had my system built with the following relevant specs for the sake of this post.
CPU - AMD 3970x
Cooler - Noctua NHU14
MOBO - ASROCK Creator TRX40
Case - Cooler master CM694 (https://www.coolermaster.com/catalog/cases/mid-tower/masterbox-cm694/)
128 Gig RAM

Now i wanted to upgrade my RAM so i bought another 128 gig.  The problem was when it arrived, i didn't realise but the NOCTUA fan was blocking 2 of the other 128GIG slots.
see photo here.

SO - i called the PC place where i bought it, and they sold me this:
https://cplonline.com.au/inwin-aio-sr36-360mm-all-in-one-liquid-cpu-cooler.html

The problem then just started.

The noise of this was like a plane, so i adjusted the fan curve and it works better, but still a lot of noise for when i render.  Its ridiculously loud.  Like i can  hear it from the other side of my house.
Here is a photo of this set up.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how i can minimize the sound?  ie do i get new fans to replace these fans?  i hear these fans may work?
https://www.mwave.com.au/product/noctua-nfa12x25-flx-120mm-3pin-fan-ac17689?gclid=Cj0KCQiA47GNBhDrARIsAKfZ2rBIR78ibeojwXZb-grHY-Le7xmCD5az0oMNq61Y_0-rrNIAozrIPM8aAilgEALw_wcB

Or i am happy to replace this cooler - not sure what the best option is?  the price of these fans are just about the same as a new cooler - but i dont want to risk it in case its no quieter.

any help or guidance would be much appreciated.

Hi guys

im using max 2022 and i have a 3970x AMD/GTX 2080s + 256gig ram.  I would like to think its a beefy computer.
3DS max, the compact  material editor, is so slow and sluggish (is use the old material editor - i dont use slate) - i would have hoped that by 2022 it would have been improved!  anyone else experience this?

[Max] General Discussion / how do i map a brick like this?
« on: 2020-10-08, 04:00:16 »
Hi all

I have cutout these bricks individually and i want to scatter it across each brick element.  The bricks were modeled without the floor generator plugin and i was wondering how one would scatter each brick texture randomly on each brick mesh element?
scraping my head on this one

Thanks so much for any advice or help.

[Max] Feature Requests / VFB - Flip Render Horizontally
« on: 2020-06-25, 05:22:39 »
hey guys

i often find myself doing this in photoshop to refresh the brain and look at the image from a new perspective - it would be awesome if it could be integrated within the VFB?

hi all

When i select my modes and render - on heavier scenes it takes a few minutes to parse the scenes and then start rendering... is that normal for all?  When i cancel the render and then resume it or restart it, it re-parses everything and also redownloads everything, im no technical guru but it seems wasteful to do that each and every time.  Is there a way it could store and have the intelligence to know what it has alrady downlaoded/parsed previusly to make the DR kick in faster?

Thanks
