Happens to all of us :)

Is it because the TRX50 is now derived from WRX90 directly, just stripped of channels and lanes?

That will probably go for the physical boards themselves, paying same price and one gives you overclocking and other gives you the bigger physical layout for more dimms and pci cards.
In the end, you're just saying bit of money with non-WX chips.

To be honest that would be my guess as well. I mean the TRX50 boards even have IPMI / BMC now as well which is typically WS / server grade stuff? And the WRX90 platform supports overclocking too so looking at it from a distance the only difference to me is the PCI-E lane count, ha :) Oh and moar memory / memory capacity support and the like.

Yeah this has been brought up in various discussions on other online forums because while RDIMM kinda make sense for the WX (PRO) series it kind of doesn't make as much sense for the "consumer" HEDT platform.

But yeah, Threadripper 7xxx, regardless if its PRO or HEDT, RDIMMs are a must it seems.

Howdy! If I'm not mistaken you're looking to enable the fast preview denoiser?

If so it is still there its just called a little differently and it gives you more options. Now it is called "Denoising during rendering" under the Interactive Rendering compartment (its in your screenshot).

Just set it to Optix or Intel - Optix tends to be a little faster (Nvidia GPU) but a little less detailed whereas the Intel denoiser (Nvidia GPU or AMD / Intel CPU with AMD GPU support getting looked into) tends to be a little bit slower but a bit more detailed.

Cheers!

Hardware / Re: Setting up a renderfarm for Corona+Max Combo
« on: 2024-01-30, 18:53:17 »
Hm hm, to be totally honest that looks like a previous gen Xeon and it's only got 12c per CPU which means it is probably slower than your i9 (if you're using something like a 13900k).

Really depends on the type of output you're aiming for and the price of the machines but to be honest I'd probably look for something more powerful as typically, with many less powerful nodes, space / heating / electricity starts becoming a problem.

But imho it really depends on how much rendering you want to do, how fast you want it and whats the price of the thing :)

At first glance I'd say you might be better off with racking a couple of 7950x / Intel equivalents with something like a Silverstone RM41 or slimmer.

... Display Tag also does not work when I use 0 to 100%. Is there any different way in Corona? ...

Howdy!

For this one I'd currently suggest, as one of the workarounds, to right click on the Display Tag visiblity parameter -> Xpressions -> Set Driver. Then right click on your material's opacity parameter and do the same right click bonanza except hit "Set Driven" instead.

That'll basically link the Display tag visiblity parameter so that it drives the opacity of the material.

Hope that helps!

[C4D] I need help! / Re: Win10/Win 11 Lag
« on: 2024-01-22, 14:22:21 »
Very interesting because I did try installing Windows 10 on my WS again (5995wx) and unfortunately I had the same lag / stuttery issues there.

In any case we are looking into it but are still kindly asking for all the users with this problem to raise their hand. We might need help profiling the issue.

BTW right now that is looking like next week that we'll have the next video out - I have to go and check the Max version of the next lesson, then it should be done and dusted and out and live sometime at mid-week or after.

Indeed, can confirm the above :) Thank you all for your patience!

[Max] Bug Reporting / Re: dual CPU issues?
« on: 2024-01-08, 11:46:33 »
If it helps knowing I'm running a dual Epyc build that has 8 memory slots per CPU (16 total). Just for the fun of it I tried running the benchmarks (and one rather simple interior) in a 8 sticks vs 16 sticks scenario.

The results were for all intents and purposes identical between the two configs.

I do think that going with less than 8 sticks though would result in slower rendering - I haven't tested it out though.

Do note that each platform can be a bit different so the above might work for my 7B13 Epycs but might not for your dual Xeons.

Hardware / Re: Cooling down the i9-14900K
« on: 2024-01-08, 11:39:08 »
From what I've gathered online is that if you go with say a Noctua D15 (or whatever equivalent from other brands) you'll be fine. Intel's 13th / 14th gen along with Ryzen 7xxx will basically boost into the higher 80s regardless but that doesn't appear to be a problem because we're talking incremental and negligible gains from better cooling (at best).

I'd personally opt for the highest end air cooler reasonable money can buy (like the D15) and I'd feel that'd be a safe choice.

[C4D] I need help! / Re: scatter on tiles
« on: 2023-12-21, 12:10:39 »
This actually works with uvw, Thank you. But shouldn't it also work in the other modes? Otherwise you hardly have any influence on the tile size and the size of the joint.

Nates example seems to use object mode as you can see in the attached screenshot or at 30:27 in the video...

Howdy!

You are absolutely right and are not mistaken but at the moment it is indeed not supported unfortunately. Thank you for catching it!
We'll put a pinned comment on the video and we already had internal discussions about improving the behavior - along with the Corona Bitmap support for Per Tile mode. From my understanding these are not trivial updates but the devs will know more.

In the meantime UVW space is the way to go. Don't forget to set the projection method in your material tag to UVW space as well if you're trying to match the tile mapping you see with the distribution you'll get.

Hope it helps and thank you again!

[C4D] Bug Reporting / Re: Corona Tile Map - Gap bump
« on: 2023-12-15, 12:13:25 »
Hey there!

Are you plugging in a texture into the gap slot or are you trying to drive the bump with just a simple color?

If its the color way then unfortunately that won't work - the tile map / shader is kinda a bit different than a regular map and so the bump effect doesn't work unless you're plugging in textures into it. We will be looking at improving this behavior.

That said you can get it to work with "just colors" when you're using the UV space in the Tile shader AND you're plugging the C4D's filter shader right before you're plugging everything into the bump slot.

[C4D] I need help! / Re: Include/exclude mode for lights?
« on: 2023-12-11, 12:57:53 »
Howdy!

If you set it to "include" then all the objects you put in that list will be affected by that light. The object you did not put in there will not be affected by the light.

"Exclude" is pretty much the opposite of the above. Any object you put in the exclusion list won't be affected by the light.

Do note that GI and volumes are not affected. So for example if you have your Light A set to exclude the floor in your interior then you'll still see bounced light from the walls affecting the floor.

Hardware / Re: Dual Monitor
« on: 2023-11-28, 15:03:35 »
Well if you ask me then yes, it is worth getting :) It offers the space and resolution of 2x 27 screens but without the bezel in the middle. On top of that you get more than just sRGB gamut and 120hz. So lots of things to like imho.

That said I would still be cautios about a couple of things:

- Height. If you're used to 32" then remember this'll be like going back to a 27" screen in terms of height. Important consideration if you like... Height :) I noticed it but didn't think it was a deal breaker for me.

- It is a VA screen so viewing angles are more limited than on say an IPS display. For me personally it was never a problem and I like to sit quite up close to the thing (less than an arm length away) but if you're susceptible to the gamma shift like that then yes it might not be for you.

Partly why it was less noticeable for me is imho because whatever was important to be viewed was always in the center so even if there is a slight gamma shift on the browser I have docked to the side... I didn't really care.

Also, because it VA there is some black smearing happening on certain type of content. Probably not at all important unless you are a gamer and hate it.

- Curve to me is epic. Really like it and it never interfered with my work. Straight lines were straight regardless of the curve and if it was even more curvier I don't think I'd mind it. If you ever go back to a less curvy screen be prepared for the fisheye effect though lol. Anyway, curve isn't for everyone but I personally really liked it.

- I think one thing you'll need to get used to, if you go the 49" route is that you'll want to use PowerToys or something similar. Specifically the "Fancy zones" part of PowerToys. With it you'll set "zones" on your screen so that when you f.e hold shift and drag a browser window it will snap into a "quadrant" of your screen. What I did was I had C4D / 3ds Max / PS / Affinity / Resolve always on the middle of the screen. It was wider than a 27" screen. Then whatever was left on the sides I split into vertical halves - so Slack f.e was top right, Google Chat bottom right, left was typically browser space.

It takes some getting used to imho but once I got used to it I never felt like it was problematic.

What is problematic is Windows sometimes forgetting what size your app was when you closed it. So you have to move the app back into that mid space once you've closed it and reopened it. Not a big deal just annoying. Same with video players opening up full screen basically. Ugh.

All that said, and this might come off funny because I'm giving you a recommendation for the screen basically but I am currently not using it anymore. My SO got it :)

The reason I changed it (for a 40" LG) is the resolution. 5120x1440 on a 49" is like 2560x1440 on a 27" screen which is great for most people apparently. For me though, it kinda wasn't. I noticed, after 2-3 years of usage, that I started getting quite a bit of eye fatigue trying to read text (especially when it was smaller). The text was always just a tiny bit fuzzy and even though I wear glasses when I work I noticed that shit :) My SO, and she has perfection vision, didn't. We literally did a side by side comparison with my laptop screen (high DPI given the fact it is small) and she did not notice any meaningful difference in text quality. I did.

So after 2-3 years I switched to a 40" LG that has a resolution of 5120x2160. For me, it makes reading a lot easier because its basically a 4k 32" screen (I can't remember exactly but it might even have a bit more DPI than a 4k 32"). And I do mean it is a lot easier for me :)

Now yes the 40" LG has only 72hz (but not 60, haha!) but I quite like it as well. It is an IPS screen and I guess there is less of a gamma shift on the edges. Not really noticing it tbh. Besides that I still use Fancy Zones and honestly, I'm a fan of both screens :) Maybe I'm just to easy to impress lol.

Hope the wall of text is helpful. Sure took me time to write it, ha! :)
