Yup, you've heard it here first.

I'm trying to render out an animation with the latest daily and every odd frame comes out really dark. Almost like its got some weird gamma applied. If you render just the still frame it comes out great.

Upon reinstalling the previous daily the animation renders fine.

If you need more info please let me know, I can't send over the scene though.

So this one is super low priority if you ask me but nonetheless, I wanted to report it.

If you've been running Octane and its Nvidia AI Denoiser and you've then closed the scene but not Cinema 4D, if you run Corona afterwards it will automatically crash when trying to run it in IR mode with Nvidia AI denoising.

The solution is that once you've stopped using Octane, you need to close Cinema 4D and then start it back up. Once you do that, Corona IR denoising will work fine without crashing.

Hope it makes sense :)

Hello :) Found a bug!

With IR enabled:
- Plug a texture into the bump map slot -> IR updates properly
- Replace the texture with another different texture -> IR refreshes but doesn't show the updated bump map, still shows the previous texture.

Pretty much that. I can reproduce it fairly easily although sometimes it appears to update properly.

Another bug report :)

Interactive rendering appears to crash a lot if you have Takes in your scene. Switching between Takes makes it crash on a regular basis although sometimes I had sessions when it didn't crash for a while. Seems completely random and it should be fairly easily reproducible in any "heavier" scene.

I would suggest giving it a go in the Slashcube free scene :)

Again, as the title says :) If you are running IR and use Lightmix at the same time... The Lightmix settings will reset everything afteryou change something in the scene that causes the IR to update.

The settings reset to whatever settings you had when you've last saved your C4D scene.

Rock on! :)

Pretty much what the topic title says :) If you save out the lightmix settings (save button under Lightmix in the VFB) you get an error when you try to load them back in.

Basically the save and load functionality does not work.

Hardware / Threading Issues
« on: 2019-04-23, 23:10:52 »
Hey guys and gals,

So long story short, I'm running a 2696v3 (x2) and I'm experiencing some really weird threading issues when running IR. At first I thought this was limited to Corona for Cinema 4D but lately I'm finding the same issues affects 3ds Max as well. I don't remember having these problems in 3ds Max before so I'm kind of weirded out right now.

Here is the link to a screen recording of the issues -> https://www.dropbox.com/s/6sm8g9mcizxd97r/Stuttering.mov?dl=0

Synopsis: Viewport works smooth at 100fps. You turn on Interactive Rendering and you get a really stuttery viewport with FPS going from 100 to 5 in miliseconds + the UI gets hammered (even things like mouse clicks get delayed or just don't work if you press them too fast after another action). You turn off Interactive Rendering and everything gets back to being normal.

Corona for Cinema 4D is actually way worse than that. Fun stuff. Also worth mentioning is that when one drags the Windows UI (the actual windows) around when the IR is running, you even notice those guys are stuttering.

What I've been able to figure out is that its some sort of a threading issue. If I limit my CPU threads from 72 to 36 the performance gets better. If I limit it to 4 threads its super smooth, exactly as one would expect it to be.

I actually have a couple of other users experiencing similar issues on a 2670v1 (x2 - 32 threads total) and the TR 2990wx. And yes, I know Windows supposedly sucks with high thread counts but this makes Xeons / Epycs and HEDT in general unusable.

So I guess I'm wondering, anyone else experiencing something similar or know of any remedies?

edit: no ram or hdd issues btw :)

[C4D] Bug Reporting / My Bug Reporting for 2018-12-14
« on: 2019-01-02, 08:21:47 »
Hello everybody,

I've decided to give Corona for Cinema4D another shot given that I've been using the 3ds Max version for quite a while now. Unfortunately, I think there is still a ton of work needed (most of the bugs are quite "ground breaking" for anything but daily renders work) but I'm hopeful this buglist is at least somewhat helpful in ironing out the C4D version.

Here is a quick bug report from playing around for 15 minutes this morning. I've also included screen captures for a few of them.

Interactive Rendering
  • Displacement doesn't update in the IR at all (IR needs restarting)
  • Corona Round Edges shader doesn't update properly in the IR (IR needs restarting)
  • Projector shader doesn't work and returns just a black output.
  • IR sometimes just randomly decides it will ignore the material's diffuse texture. Example: Adjusting Reflection Mix Strength when there is no texture present causes the IR to ignore the Diffuse map in the material. https://www.dropbox.com/s/vbq4l4pqtulphyr/CoronaBug%20-%20Diffuse%20gets%20ignored.flv?dl=0
  • The way the IR reads an object's normals is different than the way the final renderer reads them. Basically it makes the IR pretty much useless when working with CAD data / certain imported models because it can't display them properly. Corona for 3ds Max reads those same files just fine. (Houska, I remember we talked about it but I can't find the correct thread) https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=18316.msg115002#msg115002
  • There is an odd "cleaning up" phase when starting up the IR for the first time. Not sure if it happens only on fresh starts or whatever but it takes a few seconds and I'm guessing it shouldn't do that.

AI Denoiser
  • AI Denoiser Flickering (Yup, still happening every time that multi-pass is turned on)

Corona Node Material Editor

General

Tested on: W8.1, 2x Xeon 2696v3, 64GB RAM, 1x 1070 & 1x 2080ti.

Generally speaking there are _quite_ a few more bugs I've encountered. IR especially seems to be quite random in what works and what doesn't. I think I'll be updating this thread as I get more time to "catalog" them properly :)

Inputs are welcome :)

[C4D] General Discussion / Multi-Instances?
« on: 2018-12-04, 17:23:42 »
Hey guys and girls,

This just caught me by surprise. Am I correct in thinking that we don't have support for R20 multi-instances in the IPR? :)

[C4D] Resolved Bugs / CXR doesn't contain Lightmix data
« on: 2018-07-09, 10:21:36 »
Hello yet again,

I've just saved out a CXR from Corona VFB so that I can open it up later in CIE and tweak it if need be. Apparently all the lightmix passes saved correctly (they even got denoised) but the CIE itself reports that there is no lightmix data.

Seems like a big issue for production especially if you render over night to then realize it doesn't work :\

edit: This is for the Windows version :) Latest Beta (2018-05-30)

Hey devs,

This is just a quick "feature" request. I think it would be pretty cool if the VFB would properly report the current camera and frame it is rendering.

I get confused as to what was rendering at what time more often than I'd like to admit. Plus, its working in 3ds Max so :P

Thanks!

[C4D] Feature Requests / Display Tags - Visibility Support
« on: 2018-06-25, 11:34:02 »
Hey devs,

I think it would be pretty cool if there would be full support for Display tags in C4D :)

Right now if you add a Display tag and animate its visibility you'll only see its effect at 100% or 0%. The values in between don't create a gradual transition at all. In geek terms, its either 1 or 0 :)

Oddly enough, C4D exhibits the same behavior in the viewport but rendering with the physical renderer for example totally works as expected.

Oh and yeah, you can animate the opacity on the materials sure but we don't want to have 20 different materials in the scene to animate 20 different pieces right? I mean imagine if you are doing shader dev on a scene like that...

Thanks!

[C4D] Resolved Bugs / CAD models
« on: 2018-06-06, 14:39:49 »
Hello,

It seems like CAD files for whatever reason don't work well with the IR in Corona for C4D. Attached is a screenshot of a regular render and an IR preview. The difference is... noticeable :)

I tried welding the mesh together and I've also made sure that the phong angle is "ok". The same mesh renders perfectly in 3ds Max.

Have fun! :)

[Max] I need help! / Animation RAM
« on: 2018-03-28, 08:56:37 »
Hey guys and girls,

I think we've discussed this issue not so long ago in another topic but I can't find it for some reason and so I'd appreciate some brain power.

I've had an animation render recently that started eating up more RAM with pretty much each new frame.

Naturally I first thought it was the UHD cache getting bigger and bigger but it does the same thing in PT / PT mode. A thing to note as well is that for like 100 frames of an animation I needed 64 GB of RAM.

The scene itself is nothing special, its really small and I don't remember having this issue with other similar scenes. I am using DOF, MB and displacement though.

If I recall correctly this is kind of a 3ds Max <-> Corona issue.

Is there anyone with the same problem out there?

Thanks!

I just quickly browsed my FB news feed and somebody posted this reuters link. Not sure who it was because the feed refreshed, lol :)

Yup, I suppose it was expected but Autodesk is reporting a "significant" growth in their subscription revenue.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-autodesk-results/autodesk-reports-smaller-loss-than-expected-shares-jump-idUSKCN1GI2TW

What is of extra interest is this statement:
"As part of its long-term plan, the company will seek fewer but higher-value subscriptions from businesses, Anagnost added."

So I guess they know they will lose a good chunk of smaller studios and private shops / freelancers and are fine with that.

What I'm wondering is just how much of that chunk of users affects their bottom line and whether people are starting to find value in other packages (C4D, Blender etc...) that are getting significant updates lately.

Thoughts? :)

edit: I do wonder how many people moved on the subscription train and the value they see in it. Any opinions would be welcome!
