The Corona scatter distributes instanced objects by their pivot points. That means if those objects (grass patches in your case) are significantly big, they inevitebly will "bleed" over distribution plane borders. One of the possible solutions, would be to utilize scaling near the edges, or use another scatter with smaller grass patches, like here: https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=9630.0
I'm not Corona Team member. Everything i say, is my personal opinion only.

I think this can be a good article to read:

https://docs.itoosoft.com/forestpack/forest-edge-map

or this tutorial (although it is for Vray, but perhaps this is now also implemented for Corona?)

I wish Corona Scatter has a feature like edge mode.

You can also use distance map for opacity slot, it will be very similar to edge mode

hi not really sure what distance map is, or how to do it, is there any tutorials on this, im a very new user and thought that it would be a simple thing to put grass on a surface and not have it bleed over the edges of the surface.
thanks for your help!

I've yet to try this, but I think it can work (I'll give it a go here soon). It will probably be best to use a geometry that is set to not render in order to get any grass, etc. to not render in larger areas.
