We requested an improvement in Corona render for 4k monitors. I have now noticed in Release Candidate 1 that when I resize the interactive rendering window, the corona keeps the resolution low to have less memory consumption. That's great!

But rendering quality is poor because of the resolution. Is it possible for the user to disable this option?
It would be nice if I could decide when to use it in 4k mode and when to use it in normal mode, because then I decide the view mode according to the scene.

I also noticed that when I resize the IR window the icons also lose quality, they are also being resized.

you can specify the scaling factor in system settings dialog.

Hi Frood,
the physical sun&sky map is just a procedural environment map, it has nothing to do with Corona Sun and Sky.
Unfortunately, this also means that it is a black box for us, so we cannot split it to separate LightSelect elements.
The only way to do that would be to make our own sun positioner.
In any case, we cannot support this more than we already do.

  • DR server no longer complains about backburner not being installed for 3ds Max 2019+ (these versions don’t need backburner installed for DR)
  • Images stored in render history are now always displayed with their original postprocessing parameters instead of using the current VFB parameters, so the render history can be used to compare different versions of tone mapping, denoising etc.
  • CoronaColorCorrect map:
    • Added an option to use controls of different map, allowing to use the same color correction on multiple input maps.
    • Fixed histogram in the curve editor not updating when input map is added or removed
    • Histogram controls in curve editor are now disabled when no input map is connected
  • When resizing the VFB by double clicking the rendered image, the maximum size of the VFB is now limited by the resolution of the monitor which is currently displaying the VFB
  • Fixed wrongly evaluated view-dependent maps when plugged into slots in Corona Scatter
  • Added a checkbox for turning on memory optimizations of geometry (at a cost of rendering perfomance) to performance rollout; it was previously in development/experimental rollout.

Hi,
it seems the installer did not detect you have a compatible GPU.
Could you try manually selecting the NVIDIA AI Denoiser during installation?

Calculating Bloom & Glare seems to really bring my system to a standstill at the minute, I don't remember it being quite so intensive to calculate in previous builds. Is it the GPU handling this feature these days or is it still on the CPU?
Besides the NVIDIA denoiser, everything is still CPU.

For example if i am changing colour or distance it will not update in interactive render mode i will have to do other change like turning
on and off the light or move object to see the update something like that

Not sure if this is with the model I am working with or latest version of DB, but my max keeps crashing when trying to dial in Corona Light Material. Instant crash.
128gb ram and i9-7980xe cpu. Dont think its a hardware issue.

Again, not sure if its something in regards to new DB or not, but wanted to mention it.

Hmm, i don't get it, i changed bitmaps for the Cbitmaps and my image got only marginally better, nowhere near to your results. Am i doing something wrong, or is it some bug?

Definitely a bug. It seems to be related to texture filtering. Try using blur=1 instead of 0.1.

Does today’s release address any of the bugs causing crashes?  I don’t see it listed in the changelog so I thought I’d ask before trying it.

Hi, the crashes should be resolved in the upcoming daily build, as well as the artifacts caused by NVIDIA AI denoiser.
