[C4D] I need help! / Re: Max to c4d - preserve materials?

Thanks Chaps I'll give it a try. Unfortunately I dont have V-ray so that complicates it a bit. Fingers crossed the 3dtoall works.

Hi. It's probably been asked before - but is there a way to get a 3dsmax scene (corona materials) into Cinema4d (also with corona materials).

I dont expect a perfect material match - just to have maps linked to the right object.

FBX exports the geo fine. But with no maps in the materials. It would take me an enormous amount of time to compare files and rebuids from scratch. Please tell me theres another way :(

It's best to send your collected file, it's hard to guess what you are doing wrong otherwise.
Do you understand UV mapping?

So sad to see that nothing is still solved, seems like Corona does not care about Mac users at all. I really do not want to migrate to PC after 12 years... can anyone let us know, there is something being done about this issue? M chips are super fast for anything from 2d graphics to video editing,  seems bit weird they would be THAT bad for rendering. Worse than 4+ years old Intels...

Look - I've worked professionally on macs for over 25 years - and it would be handy to do everything on one machine.

But you need to face the facts and use the right tool for the job - and for anyone who renders a lot with either GPU or CPU engines, that is a PC. And it has been for at least a decade.

Being disappointed with Corona will make zero difference to this.

Hardware / Re: Very noisy new ryzen build

In the Armory Crate dashboard I've activated Power Saving and that does help a bit actually. Good idea!
Its still certainly louder than the old machine - but bearable....

Hardware / Very noisy new ryzen build
« on: 2024-01-10, 09:44:42 »
I've just completed (I hope!) my first PC build.

Its a Ryzen 7950X, built one a ASUS ProArt X670E, with Noctua NH-U12A cooler, plus 4 case fans (three at the front, one at the back) in a Fractal North case.

I set the fan curves to quiet in the bios, and also tuned and set them to AI cooling in the armory crate app.

It's silent when idle. But as soon as I use use IRR or viewport rendering the fans kick in quite high and very noisy. The CPU temp is straightaway 75-80ยบ.

Have I messed up my cooling somewhere? Or the fan setup? Or is it just a noisy build?
My co-workers are grumbling a bit :( as my previous PC was always almost silent.

Hopefully someone can give me some pointers. Thanks in advance.

linear displacement normally requires a + and - value where 50% grey = 0%.

So in your case 0% displacement is grey (use a soild colour layer) and the dove bitmap is -X (use the image on top multiplied) with and equivalent +X value

Hi Forum!

Hope you had a great Xmas All. Got a project I'm jumping onto and unfortunately it is all done in Octane. It is a fairly big exhibition space and has tons of materials. I do not have Octane and wonder if there is any way of converting it to Corona materials? The scary thing is I can't even see the structure of the materials, at least with RS you can open them to see what is going on so easier to convert manually. I have a dreaded feeling I will have to do this manually which will take a day or 2... any suggestions? Many thanks, John :-)

Unless someone has made a personal script I think its a manual Job i'm afraid. If you download a octane trial, you could probably get a octane-to-native c4d script - then use the corona convert tool from there.

I know it's hard to break your established workflow. And I guess if you need to rebuild and match scenes already set up in V-ray this may be a pain. But Corona doesn't have this, and I've never needed it personally.

Just keep your camera straight and use a combination of camera positon and Y offset to get the same result.

I must say that I also also didn't realise I had auto-renewal set for V-ray until after it was paid. But after one email to support, it was cancelled and refunded within days.

I would imaging that the chaos licencing support is the same team for both V-ray and Corona (are you in the EU?) so I'd recommend re-contacting them to make sure there isnt some confusion about your case in particular.

I don't think much will be acheived by posting on corona user forum TBH.

The OP it talking about the phenomena where gold reflecting gold seems to multiply the saturation/colour of the reflections so that they appear orange.

This is replicated in the real world (see attcheed) but certainly seems rather pronounced in Corona (It's looked odd to me before too).

I'm not sure if this is a shortcoming in Coronas material - or if the real-world metals always have more imperfections/coatings/grease etc which diminish the effect.

Hardware / Amount RAM Needed?
« on: 2023-11-27, 21:21:42 »
Forgive my ignorance. I'm thinking of building my first PC around a 7950X. But on my local shop's part picker - it keeps limiting me to 64GB of DDR5 RAM on the motherboard.

Is there something about DDR5 RAM that is limiting it to 2 slots? Is 64GB remotely enough these days?
I always thought that Corona was somewhat RAM hungry so my old 2950X pc had 128GB of DDR4...
