(Moving mantis feature requests to forum)

We need simple photo caustics that would render all the light paths that are being clamped by MSI, and then store them in a separate element. This should be easily done if it was done as a prepass.

Currently, there is no acceptable way of rendering caustics for production environment in Corona.

Not sure who requested it, but he is right.

In ideal conditions, the more advanced pathtracing algorithms should become usable in mainstream scenario, but that probably won't be feasible in near future.
I always hated photons, photon-setup for Caustics and all the tinkering....but it does give the results.

Unless of course you use a separate pass from mental ray... is quite fast.

Really we should be focusing on improving corona and not using MR as a crutch.

Hmmm... i'm just saying why reinvent the wheel when the tools to make that are already in (talking about 3dsmax that comes with mental ray installed).
A caustic pass in mental is a breeze to setup and quite fast to render.

It still doesn't make sense to rely on other than primary renderer to do your job. Yes, it's a workaround but no, it's not a solution.

Of course it's not. For very simple scene, perhaps ? But the more complicated scene, nigh impossible. You're going to manually replace all contributing lights and materials ?

Pretty absurd to me.

some kind of quick and easy caustics would be wonderful... as far as i am aware it isnt an easy task no matter what render engine you use (?)

But in the other hand it would  benefit other  than max users.
I dont have a complex scene to try and since Corona went commercial i was a little away in this forum, but  time ago i spend a lot searching for the fast/better way to achieve caustics just to find that the tools for doing it were already there.
You were right maybe i should try what i have learned in a complex scene and return with some results.

this is one of those features that are doable, but the price/benefit ratio is not that good

What about light dispersion (real one, not faked)? :)
