Hardware / Re: Reboot your computer when rendering
« on: 2015-08-11, 17:36:46 »
Remove dust from fan with a brush and check its working properly, clean the cooling unit. Do you have pets?... i have to remove cat hairs from my PC every 4-5 months. Also the graphic card exhaust must take heat outside... if tower is near a wall or something that could be difficult and heat could be recirculating inside.
Thankfully those Intel chips turns down automatically when overheating.

[Max] Resolved Feature Requests / Corona tension map!
« on: 2015-08-11, 17:26:20 »
I kindly request a small but maybe useful stuff for Corona.
A tension map to be used mainly for skin deformation rendering.
Imagine a surface gloss or reflectivity or anisotropy (in UV coord) that change using tension or contraction of a mesh like human skin does.
CoronaTensionMap must compare the current deformation of a mesh with a reference state and generate relative compression and expansion in form of a grayscale or color ramp.
That info could be usefull to modulate certain effects (skin).
Sorry if this is waaaay too specific implementation, but i loose nothing asking kindly. XD.

Hope all interface is built using blueprints system.

CPU Fan dead?... or full of dust, or even power source not enough maybe?... who knows really.
Overheating... condensation... motherboard deformation due to heat... it could be anything...

A very clever way to achieve  a toon shader... but i'm not shure if it will work in a complex setup.
I would like to add a specialized toon shader that has received  few reviews than it should.
Its called "Pencil +3" just google it.
Is the BEST toon shader for max. Period. It even let you extract illustrator files of anything you throw at it, or fake a hand drawn, mechanical drawings and a loong etc.
I dont know why is not so popular this days, like i said its awesome good.

Hope it helps someone.

Also i like to add an excellent texture map that comes with Phoenix FD called PhoenixFDOceanTex i just tested it using Displacement in Corona material with good result.
This implementation from chaosgroup is better cause is a procedural texture both vector based or normal based, and the result has no tiling whatsoever.
You can even extract (render) the map for later use in order to get rid of the plugin.

Disregard tearing edges. Rendered in corona 6

[Max] General Discussion / Re: How to make nacre small tiles
« on: 2015-07-27, 04:06:37 »
For the tiles you could check the tutorial "Medieval interior with volume rays tutorial" from Rawalanche. There they make floor tiles using simple tools inside max, or you could use floor generator.

And the material is a harder, adapt this:

By this time i'm not so sure Corona has improved anisotropy or material blending. So it may be harder to achieve.

What about this?

Maybe its corona compatible.
Looks pretty good.

First post since corona went comercial.
Now using good old free versiĆ³n.
A small splash...

UNLESS... the dummy transfer some sort of scaling...

26
But in the other hand it would  benefit other  than max users.
I dont have a complex scene to try and since Corona went commercial i was a little away in this forum, but  time ago i spend a lot searching for the fast/better way to achieve caustics just to find that the tools for doing it were already there.
You were right maybe i should try what i have learned in a complex scene and return with some results.

[Max] I need help! / Re: 3D CGI Interactive Product Viewer

Use this:

http://threejs.org/

They use that in http://www.123dapp.com/123C-3D-Model/Black-Moor-Goldfish/596506 just click in 3D button.

And in this link you will find everything that you possible need to implement it:
https://github.com/mrdoob/three.js

And this are the 3dsmax exporters for that:
https://github.com/mrdoob/three.js/tree/master/utils/exporters

Another idea is using a 3d pdf exporter. There is also a plugin for max that does that.
Search for "simlab pdf exporter" you could just add a link on a picture in the site to the 3d pdf.

One solution is webbased the other is a pdf file that you could send by mail or download and view when there is no connection.

Hmmm... i'm just saying why reinvent the wheel when the tools to make that are already in (talking about 3dsmax that comes with mental ray installed).
A caustic pass in mental is a breeze to setup and quite fast to render.

29
Unless of course you use a separate pass from mental ray... is quite fast.
