Gallery / Drylands; contemporary mountain retreat
« on: 2019-08-08, 10:26:39 »
Hello everyone once again,

this time I have some exterior imagery ready to share with you. This is one of the most pleasant set I've placed my hands on so far. Hope you'll enjoy watching it as much as I did enjoy creating these :)

The architecture was designed to fit predetermined local dry-land environment and to support upcoming brick texture release by Poliigon. I think that various shapes of the building help the brick show it's true visual value.

As working on exterior scenes is often very complex, there are always things that could be improved. But I think it is slowly getting there :)

Feel free to share your thoughts!

Software as usual: Sketchup + 3dsmax + Corona + PS

Full project here:

Thanks for watching,

David.

Hi guys,

speaking from my own recent experience, I personally had quite an issue with IR in Corona 4. It was so annoying I just downgraded to C3hf2 for that reason, maybe it was due to some things still being on legacy settings, but as I needed it to work afap I just decided to finish the project in C3 instead..  I spent almost whole week trying out what the culprit was, couldn't identify it (re-saving layer by layer etc.)..  But it was really very very unresponsive, like waiting several minutes for IR to start reacting every time I moved the camera or changed any settings, and I still had a lot of RAM available..

Although I think it may have been due to quite heavy CoronaDistanceMap usage in mix with the CoronaScatter and proxies? Maybe that is something you could try to recreate to investigate this further, like a lot of various object/proxies in distance maps + scattering.. I was definitely less optimizing things in the past on my 32gbs workstation and IR was working much smoother.. with much higher polycount at that..  One more thing that comes to mind was that maybe I must update the older proxies to "newer version" as well? Could that increase the performance?

I can try to give an update on the situation after I start a new scene from the scratch in C4, but that can take some time .. :) But well anyway, C3Hf2 have basically no issues with IR while C4 working with same scene is hardly ever responding..

Anyway I would be very glad if you make this a priority as fast IR is a must in nowadays standards..

Cheers

Great work man! :)

I can relate and agree on interactive rendering being much worse than in previous versions, the IR itself is fast (as it used to be), but the time it takes to calculate in-between start and stop is now so irritating.. my files are really hard to work on at the moment thanks to this IR issue, as they are quite heavy .. really half of my work time is being wasted on waiting for IR to respond.. ram levels are below 70%, and I used to work on much larger scenes with very less issues .. Hope you can get this resolved somehow, as I already re-saved the current scene to corona 4, and it instantly crashes when I try to open it again with corona3hf2 (will try merging..)

UPDATE: I've managed to merge the scene into new with Corona 3 hf2 and the IR is as fast as it used to be, so it is not scene related.. :) Glad I've wasted whole week figuring out what the culprit was..

I try to keep it as linear as possible from the frame-buffer, but sometimes I tweak highlight compression a little bit, as even PS can have trouble with overburnt highlights .. Then it's just camera raw and simple adjustments layers + some custom luts for finals...  back in a day I used to overdo my postpro a lot, so I want to learn from it and try to keep it very simple and subtle

Thank you guys, always appreciated:) !

HDRI is from hdrihaven, I think it was one called waterbuck trail

For the setup, not sure what exactly you'd like to know .. ?

Lighting it's hdri + very soft corona sun for a little bit of added warmth,
Render settings are basically default, except of displacement override and GI AA balance set to 32 with 1lsm ..

Hello everyone,

After some time I've got another set of cg imagery to share with you..
Once again created in order to promote poliigon and their freshly uploaded rug models:)

This time its an interior of a contemporary villa located in some solitude mountain environment,
designed with daylight and openess as two main attributes of the space..
This helped to maintain a nice balance between the indoor and outdoor area..

I hope I'll have time to render out some exterior views as well in the near future..

Once again, thank you for your time and I'd be interested to hear you opinion on these,

If you like my work, please feel free to follow me on my behance for some more projects:

Thanks maru! This would be helpful on so many levels! Mostly for creation of environments using various ground textures and masks .. If anyone could share any kind of workaround of how to achieve this, I would be super thankful! (without using megascans mixer)

Gallery / The silence of browns

Hi everyone,

I'd like to share a little bit from the the work I've done in last couple of weeks, which is an promotional artwork for https://www.poliigon.com/ and their new carpet texture release.
The carpets are actually quite hard asset to focus and create the scene around, so I hope the color mood and a little bit of unique approach gave it what it needs to catch your eye.

You can find a bit more here: https://www.behance.net/gallery/77870457/The-silence-of-browns

I hope you enjoy it and don't hesitate to check these new carpets out in case you'd like to get some!
Also feel free to give me any feedback for me to improve upon in the next ones!

Can't wait to see more awesome renders from this community:)

Thank you and good luck,

David

Hey guys, sorry for opening this thread again but I was wondering, is there any way to setup drag&drop bitmaps to load directly as Corona Bitmaps, or is it necessary to use Corona Converter for these kind of imported bitmaps? What I really hate about the usual right-clicking (Maps - Corona - CoronaBitmap) workflow is that it always start at a predetermined folder which is often a pain in the ass when loading large amount of bitmaps ..

Thank you in advance!

Yeah I see no reason for this as well, as it may create unwanted results for bump/displacement maps..  It would be nice to have sharpen option in CoronaBitmap though:)

Hi, is this still happening?

Hi, I couldn't reconstruct the issue since that, but I think it was caused by VrayVolumeGrid in the scene, as I mentioned in some other post regarding this issue .. After conversion to edit poly it did no occur again, but I can just import the model in my current scene and see if it happens again if you want .. :) Or you can just go to design connected and download their free fireplaces - it was their model which caused this issue..

Hello everyone,

This time I'd like to share a little project of mine, which I completed as a part of a job application for a position in a certain texture website last week..
The task was to create set of images to promote their upcoming wood collection in certain time..

After a day of reference collecting and creation of a moodboard I designed this humble modernist space,
which together with a misty outdoor weather nicely complement the wood textures and its reflections.

Even though there are some things which could get a bit more attention and tinkering with, I am quite happy with the result ..

I'd be happy to hear your opinion on it :)

You can also find the project on my behance so feel free to check it there!

Thank you for your time,

Cheers
David
