Thank you very much for the detailed explanation maru.
This is exactly the same workflow I figured out by myself. The part where I had to resume the render then stop it immediately seemed odd and I thought I missed something or was doing it wrong.
Fingers crossed for the option to directly load a cxr in the frame buffer.

Hi,
I stumbled on this post while searching for a way to load cxr in the corona vfb.
Is it still not possible to this day ?
If not, how do you corona users tackle such a simple task as doing a region render on a previously rendered image ?

Thank you maru.

I tried your method on my current project because as always, I had last minute changes of vey localized areas of the images :)

So I took care to save a dump EXR of my render.
I resumed the render from the EXR, stopped it, defined a render region for the modified area and rendered. This wotks locally, but if I render in DR the rest of the image outside the render region is re-rendered again. So I have no option but to render only on my workstation.

Also I had some lens effects applied and these don't get updated on the whole image neither.

Ok, found the culprit : I have some Laubwerk Trees in my scene. They render fine when rendering locally, but they cause this problem if I try to DR.

Hi,

I have a scene that renders fine on my workstation.
When I render using DR, my main workstation hangs forever on the Scene Parsing phase.
While the workstation is hung, all DR nodes start to render.

Any idea what can cause this ?

Ah yes that indeed answers the OP that aimed at doing post processing 
The reason I want to load exr into the vfb is actually quite different : When I finish a hires render that took hours and then I need to change a small part of the image it is very useful to be able to :
 - Load the EXR in the vfb, disable refreshing
 - Region render only the modified parts
 - re save the EXR
This way I have my EXR updated with all its elements in a fraction of the time it would have taken to re render the whole image

I understand that this will be implemented in a standalone application.
Is it also planned to to allow loading the EXR into the VFB within 3ds max ?

Ouch ! Just discovered this problem at the moment when trying to render part of my image with latest version of Corona. Is this going to be fixed for the next release ?

2. Why not just use enviro map?

Because light domes make it infinitely easier to switch between different hdrI : Simply turn them on and off
They also make the rotation of the hdri simpler and more intuitive

Gallery / Parisian Apartment Refurbishment - First try with Corona

Hello,
Here are my very first renders made with Corona.
Render time is 4 hours each on 5xi7 nodes at 4500x3000 resolution.
Unfortunately couldn't spend as much time as I'd thought on this one, so 95% of the materials are straight conversions with the awesome dedicated script. Also very simple lighting : same hdr used for all six images.
Images were rendered as EXRs and adjusted with adobe camera raw.

Hello,

I am able to make autosave output to a local drive, for eg : d:/myfolder/
But I can't get it to work on a network path, like : //myserver/projects/22-projectxxx/
Is this a limitation of corona or I'm I doing something wrong with the syntax ?

Hi,

I have the same problem : in the Corona 7.1 setup window I do not see the option to install DR server.

Edit : I found that it is a display bug. See this screen capture : on the right is the setup dialog on one of my render slaves : the DR option appears. But on my main workstation it is cropped and I can't resize the window to make it appear.
