Hi,

Today I'm unable to launch 3ds Max 2023: it starts as usual, and then in the bottom of the UI I have the following message: copy /Y "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2023\SceneConverter\ConversionScripts\ChaosGroup_To_*.ms" "C:\Users\myUserName\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\Scene Converter\ConversionScripts"

And it freezes.

I tried to delete the ENU located in C:\Users\myUserName\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2023 - 64bit but it doesn't work. A new ENU folder is created instead.

Thanks for your help I need my machine up and running asap.

Hi,

Can you let me know which version of Corona you are using with your 3ds Max 2023 and can you navigate to this folder "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2023\SceneConverter\ConversionScripts" and tell me the full name of the script that is causing the issue?

I am currently using 3ds Max 2023 with Corona 9 HF 1 and in this location "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2023\SceneConverter\ConversionScripts" , I don't have any such script named as "ChaosGroup_To_*.ms"

Hi Avi,

Thanks for replying so quickly.

I use Corona 9 Hotfix 1. I've uninstalled 3ds Max and all the plugins. I am now installing everything from scratch again.

So I can't answer your question unfortunately. But I remember I had a look at C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2023\SceneConverter\ConversionScripts and I didn't have such  script called ChaosGroup_To_*.ms neither.

It's weird. What are your thoughts?

Hi,

since the full name and content of that script are unclear to me, I don't know what could have caused the issue.

But since you are reinstalling everything again, I hope it should fix the issue. If the issue persists, then we can look further into it.

I wonder if it has to do with the security checks in 3dsmax, they'll prevent scripts from execution and may restrict access to files. The security tools can be disabled, if you come across it again, maybe try to disable them and see if this helps.

Thanks @Avi.

Yeah everything is working fine now that I've reinstalled 3ds Max, but it's a pain to do.

I posted my issue on Autodesk forum and it looks like someone does have such scripts called 'ChaosGroup_To_*.ms' in their C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2023\SceneConverter\ConversionScript forlder, but that's not confirmed yet.

Interesting, thanks. But when it happened I couldn't disable the security checks as 3ds Max didn't start so I didn't have access to the preferences to change them.

I found a user on Autodesk Area forum who does have such a script in his folder. So it looks like these scripts 'ChaosGroup_To_*.ms' are part of Chaos products. How does it come you don't know these scripts if they're coming from Chaos?

Can you give details about the other Chaos products installed on the user's system who has this script "ChaosGroup_To_*.ms". Also, please let us know the versions of these products.

As far as I have checked, Corona doesn't have any such script. It maybe coming from other Chaos products so if you can let me know, I can narrow down the issue.

Now that you have re-installed everything in your system, do you have this script?

The user who has these scripts installed says: 'The only Chaos product I have installed is Vray 6 and it's expired but I left it installed.  (I pay as needed.)'

Now that I have resintalled 3ds Max, Corona and VRay (expired), I still don't have such scripts myself.

He also added: 'I guess I should mention that I had Vray 4 installed before 6, not sure if it left some scripts behind when uninstalling.'

Hi,

We identified those files as V-Ray conversion scripts, typically stored in C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\VRay3dsMax2023\sceneconverter\ConversionScripts.

We have forwarded this info to the V-Ray team, and they will investigate the cause of this issue. In the meantime, if you experience this problem again, a current workaround would be to completely uninstall any outdated or previous versions of V-Ray and install the latest version.
