[Max] I need help! / Vray converted Scene weirdness
« on: 2018-09-12, 14:38:52 »
Hiya,

Just about threw my workstation out the window waiting for vrayRT or IPR to produce even a preview so I converted the scene to Corona but now I only get black material editor previews...
Just checked a different scene made with Corona and it works fine so this seems to be scene specific.

Restarted max, ran the converter again but no luck. Any ideas?

I use Sergo Pogosyan's Automultimatte script for vray on every job. Love it and have been missing it sorely with corona.
I hacked his vray script to work with Corona. Only works with CoronaMtl, CoronaLayeredMtl and CoronaLightMtl (plus the max standard mats that worked with the vray version of the script.)

Anyhow hopefully it's useful for some.

Here's the original script's scriptspot page for info and whatnot: http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/automultimatte

Hello there,

I always use a daylight system to make sure I'm rendering with plausible sun angles for a given site's location.
I noticed (mid-way through a project) that the CoronaSun now has a target. Interesting... Thankfully I tried moving the target to see what happened, and oh dear, it completely changed the angle of the sun, even though I'm using a daylight system... It should all be locked down, shouldn't it? (unless in manual mode).

I've been switching over to a vraysun to see if the CoronaSun matches vraysun and nope, it doesn't seem to care where I put the target or the Daylight compass, it's completely different from the vraysun result.

Whats the deal here? This seems like a remarkably dangerous bug if it is indeed a bug.

Edit: well no other sun but the coronaSun produces direct light it seems in Corona, so in fact I have no way to be sure the coronaSun is in the right position...

General CG Discussion / Managing Max's file output system
« on: 2018-03-09, 11:11:47 »
Hiya,

After coming from vray (with a vray specific render save-out function) and now using Corona, I'm struggling with Max's render saving functionality. I can't seem to find anywhere in the Corona setup that allows me to save out a multilayered exr/cxr without using the VFB. The desire is to use Backburner and end up with one of these multilayered exr/cxr for each render.

It seems like I have to use max's native file saving system which is annoyingly linked to the elements and how they behave. Not only do I get a multilayered exr/cxr but a bunch of extra renders for all the elements. Is there any max function or script that helps to strip the paths, set the paths and generally manage how max handles saving of elements? Or is there a way to just get Corona to save out the multilayered exr/cxr without using the frame buffer?

Also using rebus lately it seems the checker forces me to have all the elements save out which is a pain if I've stripped out the elements' paths as re-doing them can take an age...

Cheers,
James

Hi there,

I have a scene with a bunch of 'sets' of lights. The sets are all instances of one another.
I've been using the lightmix to dial in all the lights but when I go to use the >Scene function, I'm finding one light from each set is being made 'unique'. The operations are visible in the max undo list. The lights are all included in the correct lightselect elements (no loose ones unassigned). It's repeatable for me. If I create a light, instance 10x, create a new light, instance 10x etc etc. Assign each set to a light select. Hit render, adjust colours/intensities, >Scene function and bam there's one from each set (usually) that has become unique.

I also have two questions that are somewhat relevant:
1) Will the lightselect render element clean up faster than beauty pass?
2) Was there ever some sort of automatic setup for the lightmix feature? I seem to remember such a thing but perhaps I'm imagining it. Could be a sweet feature if it doesn't exist, perhaps it can add a lightselect for each set of instanced light...

max 2016 sp4, Corona 1.7 (hotfix 2)

Cheers,
James

[Max] I need help! / Maxscript reference...
« on: 2017-05-11, 20:45:30 »
Hello.

I'm trying to build some scripts to replace the ones I had for vray. Is there a comprehensive maxscript reference for Corona anywhere?

I'm trying to generate render elements but the maxscript listener doesn't want to spit out any properties as I change them. Is this just me? Am I missing something? I'm just trying to guess at the moment...

Cheers.

Hiya,

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

If I merge in a tree from Archmodel trees 176 (for example), and use the Corona converter with the 'Bitmap to CoronaBitmap' option enabled, my viewport becomes quite jumpy/laggy/hiccuppy after the conversion. Even if the material is removed from the scene, the problem persists. Merging an affected model into a fresh scene doesn't help. Quite strange.

I think I've narrowed it down to the vray2sidedmaterials within the multi/sub-object material that comes with the model.

It also seems like the more of these materials that are present in a scene, the worse the jumping/skipping.

Using 2016 sp4
