[Max] I need help! / Converting materials from Blender

I imported a model that I bought made in Blender into 3Ds Max 2024. I imported the FBX (obj would not work with an error meshName=shapeName when importing OBJ). I used the relink bitmaps script. The materials came into Max, but what the original maker said were alpha maps came in as what seemed to be separate materials laying over the pavement and walls instead of blending onto the walls and pavement.

Any ideas on how to attach these alphas correctly?

I've attached the original image rendered in Blender, the one in Max, after importing bitmaps into the FBX file. And a screenshot of the material layout in Blender (which I am a newbie at)..and one of the alpha files.  The original artist said "Use "alpha " image textures for cutout opacity map". Are there tutorials on this?

[Max] I need help! / Maps imported from Blender

I imported a model from Blender (FBX). I'm trying to reattach the materials. I am having problems with the eyes and jaw. The eyes have a mask. What slot do I put it in? The eyes seem to be made up of a "Sclera", a round globe, and a pupil, a circle with a concave bit.

The body has a roughness map and an AO map. Do I use these? And if so how?

I bought a model made in Max 2022. (I'm using version 2023 with the latest Corona build.)  I have been doing a simple animation with the camera moving slightly from left to right with a springbok in the room in 450 frames. The glare on the ceiling lamps changes on some frames to a dull orange. So for instance on frame 255 the glare on the lamps is bright, but on frame 256 the glare is dull and slightly orange. In fact, on some frames, I saw the glare change to a dull orange as it was rendering

I did a few tests using the region rendering on the lamp section (to overlay in Premiere). On one frame, when I turned the bloom and glare on and off a number of times the glare mysteriously went right and was no longer the dull orangy colour. Any ideas on how to fix this bug?

I am not able to use my Corona license. I have the latest version of Corona for 3Ds Max. 

Corona stopped working in the middle of a project saying that “all licenses for this product are currently engaged”. I rebooted both my laptop and my PC (the only computers with Corona installed and received the same error message (neither was running Max at the same time).

The license server says Corona Universal is “in use” when it is not even installed (at least it is not on any of my listed apps).

It says: In Use Online Evergreen∞ 192.168.50.120. I checked my IP address. It is 115.189.133.17. Could someone have “stolen” my license?

I have been doing 3D scans for years, but I just tried using the point cloud in Max. I have seen old threads that Corona has in the past not been able to render them in Max. Does Corona render point clouds in 2023 (using a setting that I can't figure out)? If not, any idea what does?

[Max] I need help! / flickering with HDRI

Hi, I am making a new animation that appears to have flickering almost like caustics on the branches (though there is no water in the scene). It is most obvious in the clip on an upper left tree branch.

I'm using a tree, an animation of a dog and a dome HDRI mapping kloppekloppenheim_05_4k form Poly Haven. (I'll try again with a new 24k version). The animation setting is set to default -secondary solver UDH cache/calculate scratch. The denoiser is set to the default.

Any ideas? I set the dome mapping at a high y-axis offset.

Our whole neighborhood is offline for 5 days due to construction. I cannot render because my computer of course will not connect to the corona license. Is there any other option so that I can finish the project? I wrote support, and they told me they would get back to me in a day or two ...so far no answer.

Can one animate a camera using an HDRI background without the foreground objects slipping? I've attached my settings and a clip of it slipping.

I noticed out of nowhere that now there appears to be a stark difference between the render frame window (interactive and final renders) and the jpegs that is output from the renderer. That never happened before now.  (I just returned from a long rip and started rendering again with a new processor and hard drives installed. I bought some animal models online.)

I have attached an image with the window frame and the jpeg next to each other. Any ideas?

How do I create a background for a 1920 x 1080 image to fit into a 1920 x 1080 HD background in 3Ds Max? It always seems to render with the background close up.

Hi, I am a bit of a novice when it comes to advance rendering. I bought a file online done in Corona 6 (I upgraded to 8 yesterday.).

After rendering this file for an hour+. For the 5 frames rendered, I saw dozens of rendered files in the rendering folder, instead of the 5 files that I expected to see ! I remembered something about "render elements" in a long tutorial that I did in the past (though I didn't finish the tutorial, think that this was way over my head). And indeed there were several render elements that related to the file...each with an output into the folder.  I have no idea how to composite them. I tried to render with the elements off and got a dark band in the rendering.

The rendering that says "interactive light mix" seems to be the rendering that I want. I'm not sure what to do with the others. (When I turn them the other elements, leaving  interactive light mix" on, I just get a black rendering. I tried to render with all the elements off and got a dark band in the rendering.
)

Do anyone know how to render it so that I can get one image per frame that looks like the "interactive light mix".... instead of adding all those other render element frames?

Why does the converter convert all older materials to “metal”? It is functionality useless because of this glitch if one buys lots of models as I do with lots of materials - both V-ray and Corona 6 models.

I've seen a couple of scripts that solve some of the problems: https://gist.github.com/ejut/68f88069f7b2fbb4765d41a2803693fc#file-coronaconverter-ms and a metalness switch script (but what about metal ones that I need to keep?)... They only go part of the way.

Should I just downgrade to Corona 6? Just use V-ray models as is with V-ray materials.

It is also a steep learning curve to get to 7 which only has marginal improvements in my opinion.

I bought a "room" model from TurboSquid to use with an animation (https://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/art-deco-bedroom-model-1814069). After rendering about 50 frames, I saw that I also had these black and white images -"CTexmaps" popping up in another folder.

What are they? Do I need them? And if so, how would I use them in Premiere Pro? If not, how do I stop from rendering them? They could be slowing down the rendering. (it is taking forever with this file - 20 minutes per frame at a 7 noise level!)

General CG Discussion / alembic object mapping

I purchased a model from CGtrader. It was in Blender which I don’t use except for conversions. I use 3dS Max and Cornoa. It was a model of a subject that I have been looking for for some time now, a Pere David’s deer – and a great one at that. So I took a punt and bought it.

The FBX files from Blender will not come into Max with animations, but the alembic files will. However, they come in without the materials. I spent a while putting the materials on but there is one problem that one material that appears to only cover part of its body. There are 2 “body” file images -one covers most of the body, the other the head and muzzle. But both won’t work at the same time. Would some wort of layering work? But using the “layer material the image map doesn’t come through.

if I could convert the alembic file to a mesh and keep the animation that might make it easier, but so far, I have not figured out how to do it. The animation disappears with the mesh conversion any way that I try (exporting as an FBX or just collapsing layers).

Any ideas?
