Can you provide a simple scene(preferably a blank scene with some cubes and material nodes connected in a fashion that they don't work, as you stated) and some repro steps so I will be able to reproduce your issue on my side?

Also, I am not sure which physical shader you are referring to, Corona physical MTL or max standard physical MTL?

Looking forward to helping you with this issue.

Hi,

Here are some general troubleshooting steps which you can try to fix your DR issue:

1. Are you using some VPN software? If so, please stop using it and make sure you are using BB/DR on a "classic" local network.
2. Disable any antivirus software you are using on all PCs (including Windows Defender and Firewall) - this is just to check if the issue is related to this software. You can then turn it back on.
3. Add custom inbound/outbound rules in Windows Firewall—https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/articles/4528128298257-Creating-custom-inbound-and-outbound-rules-for-the-DR-Server-application-
4. Make sure on each computer there is only one instance of 3ds Max, DR server, Backburner. If there are multiple instances running at the same time (for example two 3dsmax.exe processes), some issues may appear.
5. Do not render from a perspective view—use some kind of camera, preferably a Corona Camera.
6. Open your scene, go to Render Setup, and deselect the "lock" icon in the top right corner. Click on any viewport, then click on the viewport you want to render. Select the "lock" icon in Render Setup again. Such a reset of the rendered view sometimes helps.

8. Go to Windows’ Services list and make sure "Function Discovery Provider Host" and "Function Discovery Resource Publication" are started. Set them to an automatic start.
9. Make sure you have network discovery enabled - https://www.isunshare.com/windows-10/turn-on-or-off-network-discovery-in-windows-10.html
10. Make sure you are using exactly the same 3ds Max version on all of the computers taking part in the distributed rendering (note: even using different update/hotfix versions may cause problems, for example, 3ds Max 2020.3 vs 2020.2).

You can use the following script to turn on and off propagation depending on your need at once in your whole scene.

The following script will work only with Corona's physical material.

Hi,

For your first request. I can recommend you to use "Region select" in VFB only to see updates in a particular region when you are making some changes to the material of a particular asset. You can also use the "Render selected" option present in the Scene tab of the Corona render setup to only update according to the preset you select from the "Render selected" dropdown.

For your second request, I am not sure what exactly you meant because I am unable to reproduce a change in the VFB resolution depending on if the second monitor has a different resolution. Here is a recording : https://bit.ly/3cfBYjR

You can also use the resume last render option present in the scene tab instead starting all over again. (Depending on your need)

I tried to repro it but was unable to replicate your scene. On my side, the files are saved on the network easily.

Hi,

To use the Photographic setting, you will need to add the "Photographic exposure" operator in the VFB. After that you can control the exposure using the ISO, F-Stop and Shutter from the Corona Camera.

"Physical camera: The following operators are supposed to be overridden but they are not in the tone mapping pipeline: Chaos.TintOperator.Data"

This warning basically means that you will need to add the Tint operator in the Corona VFB if you are intending to control the tint directly from 3ds Max native physical camera. I will recommend you use the Corona camera for a smooth workflow. However, we will improve the warning so it is much simple to understand.
