Hardware / AMD Threadripper 7970x cooler
« on: 2024-02-13, 12:18:30 »
Hi, can you please suggest cooling solutions for Threadripper 7970x.
I was thinking to go with Noctua NH-U14S TR5-SP6 but not sure if some AIO liquid solution is better.

Thanks for help!

[Max] Resolved Bugs / CoronaSelect + CoronaSky
« on: 2023-01-20, 13:00:44 »
Hi, I think there is problem when using multiple CoronaSky maps in CoronaSelect map.
Clouds look as expected in render background but shadows from clouds behave wrong.
It seems to me that CoronaSky in 0 slot of CoronaSelect map controls clouds amount in all other slots, or something like that.
Same problem happens in corona 9 and latest corona daily build, max 2023.

Simple max scene attached, try changing clouds amount in map0 while map3 is selected as active.

I sometimes use Corona select Texmap in environment slot to combine different hdri and CoronaSky maps for different camers.

The problem is when CoronaSky has Volume effect turend on, Corona renders it even when diferent map (for example some hdri) is active in Corona select map.
This only happens when CoronaSky is used in Corona select map.

[Max] General Discussion / Corona 8 round edges
« on: 2022-04-25, 14:48:53 »
Dear Corona team, I really don't understand the logic behind removing the “Legacy behavior” checkbox from the round edges map in corona 8.

It is a useful feature for many users as already discussed on forum when round edges behavior was first changed in Corona 1.6.
Workaround for this is to use map from older scenes but why complicate.
In my opinion the checkbox was not only there to keep compatibility with older versions but as great additional feature to round edges map.
Instead of removing it I suggest renaming it to "ignore overlapping edges" or something similar.

Please consider this for some hotfix for Corona 8.Thanks!

[Max] I need help! / Background plane - black highlights
« on: 2021-07-08, 12:49:03 »
Hi, I'm working on interior scene, penthouse apartment with lots of windows.

For scene lights I have Corona sun and sky. Panorama photo of the view from the site is used as background mapped on cylinder for direct visibility, reflections and refraction.

The setup is done as described in here:
https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/5000515605

I have problems with black highlights in reflections from sun. I think it's known issue described in here:
https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/5000516180-known-bugs-and-limitations

So my question is what is a proper way of using background planes in Corona?
I have tried different combinations with light material, disabling cast shadows on cylinder or excluding it from sun but the problem still persists.
I'm using Corona 6.2, Max 2021.

[Max] I need help! / proxy parsing times
« on: 2020-03-17, 21:09:39 »
Hi, I'm working on typical villa exterior archviz scene and have some problems with parsing times.

The scene is setup with animated sun so that in each frame i have different sun positions for different cameras.
Everything works ok until vegetation proxys are added in scene. Parsing times are around 2 seconds on frame 0 but as soon as I change to any other frame parsing time jumps to 30 seconds or more depending on total number of different proxies.

So I tested this in new scene. I used simple white environment and a subdivided box to act as a high poly vegetation, no materials, textures, lights.
The results are in attached image, it makes no difference if proxy animation is enabled or not.
Another thing I noticed is that if you change some parameters on proxy object on for example frame 5 than that frame renders with fast parsing time and all other frames including 0 have longer parsing times.

According to all this to keep parsing times lower it's best not to use proxies or to use them without keep in memory option active.... this is a bit counter-intuitive

Similar thing is discussed here: https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=14716.0
The suggestion is to keep proxy animation disabled but this makes no difference in my test.

So I'm not sure if this is maybe a bug or just the way max works, maybe someone with more knowledge could explain this further.
I'm using Corona 5. Scene is tested in max 2018, max 2020 and on i7, xeon and threadripper machines.
Thanks

Hardware / Ryzen 9 3950X dead cores on cold boot
« on: 2020-02-26, 17:12:21 »
Hi, as you can see in subject new Ryzen 9 3950x configuration runs with some cores inactive and speeds around 0.5 Ghz.
This happens randomly after cold boot. Sometimes it works as expected and sometimes with this problem present.
Windows 10 and all drivers, chipset and bios are updated. Memory is set on xmp profile in bios, all other parameters are default.

Configuration runs on expected temperatures and works with no problems once it boots as it should.
I haven't found much info on this problem except for this link, symptoms are the same: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1146384-3950x-dead-cores-on-cold-boot/

If somebody has any ideas please help :)

Full configuration:
RYZEN 9 3950X, Thermaltake water 3.0, Asus Strix x570-e gaming, 2xG-Skill TridentZ Neo 2x8GB 3600(32 gb total), Asus Strix RTX 2080Ti, Riotoro Enigma g2 psu 850w, win 10 pro

Thanks!

Hi everybody.

Is it possible to exclude only some of the objects in the scene from motion blur in 3ds Max.
If I untick enable motion blur in object properties dialog object still renders with motion blur.
Is there some way around this? Thanks!

Hi, I have a question about DR in Corona 3.

Problem appears if I have more than one 3ds Max instances opened on same workstation.
First opened MAX recognizes render nodes in list when i click search LAN and everything renders fine.
But the second MAX cant find any render nodes and it renders just on main workstation.
This wasn't the case with earlier Corona versions.
I'm using 3ds Max 2018.

Thank you!

[Max] Bug Reporting / Bump Converter noise map mapping
« on: 2017-11-11, 08:36:06 »
Hi, I have a question about using noise map in BumpConverter.
Same is discussed here: https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=17609.0   but I was suggested to post in bug reporting also.

In the attached examples you can see that BumpConverter does something to mapping of noise map.
If I change object XYZ or world XYZ to explicit mapping in noise map coordinates, and map objects with same UVW modifier it works as expected.

Is this normal behavior?
Should we avoid using procedural maps, or some other type of maps in bump converter for any reason?

[Max] Resolved Bugs / Corona 1.7 few issues
« on: 2017-11-08, 12:05:00 »
Hi everybody, been using Corona 1.7 on my last projects and I've noticed few issues.
Don't know if these are bugs or something with my setup.

- When rendering (single workstation or DR) noise level reaches to around 5%, then jumps at 2-3% than back to 5%. I remember somebody mentioned this issue in 1.7 Daily builds thread
I didn't notice if this has any effect on final render quality in terms of creating some errors...

- When rendering with DR, Albedo pass and sometimes Wire color pass have strange issues like in image attached

- On some scenes IR takes long time to start during large scene parsing time when using proxys or IToo Forest, there is also few seconds of Max not responding,
maybe this is normal due to large amount of geometry but it seems to me things were running smoother in previous releases, once started IR has ok response

- Corona camera gets pretty hard to select in viewport, especially when there are  lots of objects in the scene, once selected it takes few moments for options to show up in Command panel, noticeably longer than standard camera

All scenes use only corona materials and lights, render settings are default,  new light solver is turned off.

My setup is: Xeon 52630v4 with 64gb ram as workstation, three I7 computers as render nodes, Win7, Max 2014 SP6

Hardware / Xeon E5-2630 v4 workstation advice
« on: 2017-03-21, 14:38:26 »
Hi guys. I'm planing on building new workstation/render node based on single Intel Xeon E5-2630 v4 CPU.

I was thinking of purchasing these components:

CPU: Intel Xeon E5 - 2630 v4 CPU.
MB: ASRock X99 Extreme4, s2011-3
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX Black 2133 MHz CL13
PS: Corsair CX 750
COOLER: Corsair Hydro H75

As I'm not experienced PC builder I would need some advice on this setup (especially regarding MB and RAM (ECC or not?))

I'm currently using i7-5930K@ 3.5Ghz with 32 GB RAM setup.
Is it better to keep this as my workstation or switch to E5-2630 v4 once i purchase it.

Thanks!
