Title: New "Tint" in Corona v8
Post by: zackary on 2022-07-14, 18:05:16
Hi, Corona Team! Have a question: I can't understand the purpose of reworked "tint" option in tone mapping - previously "color tint" was handy tool in VFB to set white balance of your images +add tint if needed (simple way to quickly set white balance instead of green/magenta and temperature tool). Now it works really weird to me in both dark and white eyedrop options - I cannot get how to use it properly. Previously all worked for me (see link). Thank You.

Can you explain, and preferably show, what you mean by "really weird"? Works as it did before here, other than the click and drag from the dropper into the image being the new process which allows selecting anything on screen vs. previous two click method which if I remember right meant you could only click inside Max itself.

(also, please let us know where you have the Tint operator placed in the tone mapping stack).

Hello, I tried to use color balance as well and it doesn't work at all for now.
I'll try to explain with images:
My stack is clean, there is only tint. I took that white eye dropper and drag and drop to the left side of the image and it is become dark blue, instead to add blue in the image and compensate that worm color.
What am I doing wrong?

IMHO the article linked in  the first post is incomplete and misleading. The proper way to use tint as WB control is this - click on tint operator colour swatch (not the colour picker), in the colour selector window, make sure that original colour is full white, if it's not, then reset it to the white first, then with inverse picker pick a colour from area that needs to be neutral grey and lastly move the value slider in the HSV full to the right. That's it, now you have set custom WB, which is not automatic, contrary to the claim in aforementioned article.

By the way, i recommend to choose 3 by 3, or 5 by 5 sample size, otherwise you risk to sample noisy pixel and set inaccurate WB.

Unfortunately it is too complicated and doesn't work for me =(
Can you show us please how to do it with pictures or video step by step?
In the past it was more faster and more friendly with just a few steps.

I fully agree.
Recently made a proposal on how I think white balance and eye droppers should work inside Corona:

I think something changed in these last versions, cause it is true that the inverse color picker works in a weird way.
It used to inverse just the color with the picker, now it picks the inverse, taking in account also the values so it darkens the image.
Like if you pick a light gray color that is somewhat bluish, it applies a dark brown "filter".

I do not know if this is the intended way, but it made sense in the previous versions where it would compensate only the color tint.

Hmm, indeed something strange is going on with the tint here. I tried it yesterday on a simple scene with minor WB adjustment and it seemingly worked ok, but today i can't get any meaningful result in another test scene.

For sure something wrong. Thank you for your try, believe us please, we just trying to help Corona team, not just critic this or that in engine.

My opinion - better to make one eye dropper and warm/cold + magenta/green in a one place, like it works in photoshop.

There was a bug in V8 non-hotfix and it is now fixed - https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=36712.msg199428#msg199428
But it seems that there is still some issue, or at least some confusion, so we will look into it.

Can you try Corona 10 ( https://corona-renderer.com/download ) or even 11 ( https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=40442.0 ) and let us know here what exact issues you are experiencing:
