I wouldn't bet that vray is doing everything right with IES files... test your scene with iray and you will get at least proper light distribution with area lights!

And still, why the shadow from a chair leg when the shadow from all the rest behaves on another so strange looks?

One scene have only point lights (sharp shadows) and one only area lights (soft shadows)
..the one leg looks like a bug, but if look carefully you can see that it's shadow is blured too. Maybe it's the angle of the light to the leg(?)

anyway.. good to see that ies lights coming to corona... maybe someone can test some linear lights?

Is there any reason why you have to encrypt your script??

I use at work a mxscript which renders and save for each lightgroup (instanced lights) one hdr image for further manipulation with Vivaldi. It's a software for lighting designers, which "composes" light like maxwell multilight, but you can load HDR Images rendered by any software.

most of the time i have 4-5 groups of instanced lights and 2-3 variations with different ies lightdistribution files.

To be honest - at the moment i don't see much difference in the UI between Corona material and MR A&D Material. ..nearly the same names for the parameters and only a slightly different layout.
How much work can it be, to convert the MR A&D material parameters on the fly?

If someone really need special MR shader then MR is still a good choice - but it's clear that Corona can't use such shaders easily.

Hi!

Does Corona support the top/buttom Map in max. ..it doesn't worked for me at least.
I really like this map, because it's really easy to use for ceilings and floors.

best,
chris

Off-Topic / Re: Your OTHER renderer?
« on: 2012-12-21, 19:50:27 »
First there was the scanline renderer, then lightscape, then vray and finally mentalray/iray. ..i still love the workflow and renderquality of Lightscape and still think that vray is faster then mental ray, but the integration of vray in 3dsmax is so weak that i moved to the well integrated Mentalray.

..btw, i think corona shouldn't go the easy way and create a parallel infrastructure with own lightobjects, cameraobjects or tonemapper , but reuse what 3dsmax is offering...my2c :)

IES lights and linear IES lights shouldl be a first choice if corona goes architecture ..it can become a USP over Vray. ..go for it!
