Hi, i recently did some tests comparing fresnel luminance value of some sort on a black sphere in a solid white environment map...attached is my result...i think if my findings are relevant and matters maybe a corona fresnel map will help solve this issue...what do you think ?

Hello ondra...i realised that 3ds max in-built fresnel map's values appear darker even when they have the same frenel values with corona's fresnel in the pbr shader...now, i dont know if that difference doesn't matter so thats why im asking that if it matters, that if the 3ds max fresnel map is inaccurate, maybe a custom corona pbr fresnel map of some sort will help...for example, apply a 3ds max fresnel map with 1.52 fresnel to a corona layered material car paint clear coat, the reflective parts closer to the camera are almost non-reflective, except you increase the black color value in the 3ds max fresnel map to about 15 or so before you begin to see some reflections...that is what makes me question its accuracy...then again, just my 2cents observation :)

Hmmmm..... Just wondering.. Why not use coronas IOR instead of fall-off map fresnel?

You need to specify a map in the LayerMtl, for example, if you want to get fresnel blending you need to use the built-in map.

But why not to tweak mix curve in falloff map to match your desired fresnel effect. You then can save that tweaked falloff map to mat library for future use. Do we really need yet another duplicate map that nobody gonna use?

Hi rom...i will use the crap out of it...lol...well, im not the first to point the fault with 3ds max fresnel map...radeon pro render has its custom fresnel map, vray too has i think...ive also seen a complex fresnel map plugin somewhere in this forum..i just thot that you guys might make a better one for "pbr" purpose...well, if it seems irrelevant...ok :)

fstorm has a really nice customizable falloff map.
In IOR mode "normal" control the right part and "tangent" control the left part of the curve. In index mode it's the opposite.
Would be great to have something like that. Everything in one simple map.
