Gallery / Virtual Dream Bike Build
« on: 2020-12-08, 18:46:32 »
Hi guys! I finally finished my “Virtual Dream Bike Build”, well, I’m planning to make even more images, but in the meanwhile I’m posting the first set.

Maybe most of you already followed the work in progress of this project, otherwise you can read it here: https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=28568.0

This is a project I really care about, I always wanted to translate my passion for bikes into the 3d world, so I used my free time to model my gravel bike in all its details.
When the model was done, I created different virtual sets, to make a photo shooting of the bike.
The garden set is inspired by my own garden, most of the plants are custom made with GrowFX, using scanned leaves that I collected directly from the outside of my home.
For the ground cover I mixed some megascans leaves with other custom made clovers and small plants.

It was nice to explore new techniques for my workflow, for example the use of Substance Painter to add the decals and the weldings on the frame.

Here you can see two short animations to introduce the project: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPIbwe7UIzH-8avbbpLx2CuzTE9CWeIZ0

Here you can see more images and details: https://gionacg.wordpress.com/

Feel free to comment, make questions and suggestions!

Wow, that's impressive!
I agree that only the cylindrical object in the hand of the little guy in the second image tells you that it's CG.
Now I want to find that Lego, I should have it at home in some old box :)

I would add the translucency feature of the corona material. I remember that years ago I switched from Vray to Corona also due to that feature. It's much easier to setup realistic foliage in my opinion.

I'm working on the environment for the exterior detail shot. Most of the vegetation is custom made with GrowFx.
Here a quick test.
Hopefully next week I'll start to publish some finished images and short animation.

I have a similar problem with a layered material. The mask texture of layer 1 has the "no tile" option active. And it produce the wrong effect in corona 6.
Try to use a standard bitmap and it should work as expected.
I sent a bug report about that..

I never used TyFlow but I definitly need to try it.
I'll see what I can do with the cloth modifier first.

The bike model is finally complete!
In the next days I'm going to create a storyboard for a short animation as well as some still images.
I'm thinking a way to simulate the tyre that inflates. Maybe with some modifiers I can do something.. Any ideas?

In the meanwhile, here another quick test render. This time the bike is out in the wild nature. All the vegetation is custom made with GrowFX.

I was about to ask about progress lately because my popcorn started to go stale. Nice to see a sequel :)

Good Luck

Ahaha sorry for your popcorn :)
Since I started to work again from the office I have less free time for personal projects.
Anyway now I have to wrap this project and make some final images and maybe even a short animation.

Keep following!

Finally I managed to find some time to proceed with the Dream Build.
I modeled the taillight and prepared the tyre sidewall material with Substance Designer. It's a bit too shiny at the moment, but I'll fix it.

Here some preview:

Hi everyone, these are some of the images I recently made for Artemide.

This is the "Gople Outdoor" product, designed by BIG in collaboration with Artemide.
99% of the vegetation is part of my personal collection of models generated with GrowFX and textured with scans of leaves and grass also made by me.
There is only one model of purple flowers that is part of Megascans.

The bike is almost complete, I'm applying the last decals and details to each components using Painter.

In the meanwhile here you can see a quick render to increase the hype :)

New update.
I created the alpha masks for the decals to be painted in Substance Painter and I also tried to add a layer of dirt. I still have to improve to use Painter, and I'm still having some distortion on the UV maps when using the Opensubdiv modifier on the frame.
Later I'll show the problem.

In the meanwhile here you can see the first previews:

The progress of this thread and all the little details you have modeled are amazing!

Also prefer riding my bike instead of sitting on 3D. :)))
Woow... those seat stays are really that slim?

Your materials & lighting are beautiful.

Thanks a lot guys.
@designerman77 yes, the seat stays are quite slim, but not as much as the ones you can find on some modern carbon xc bikes.

Hardware / Re: Inaccessible boot device after bios update
« on: 2020-05-27, 14:09:32 »
Out of curiosity - what is the status of this?
I've had some similar problems recently. The "windows restore" would boot after some failed BIOS fiddling. But it went back to normal after a restart.
I also had similar issues with the AI suite and I solved that by fully uninstalling it. ;)

This failing NVME drive is your system drive, right?
Is everything fine if you go to Disk Management? (type "partition" in the Start Menu search)

Hi Marcin, I solved the problem by formatting the NVME drive and reinstalling Windows on it.
The drive is fine, before formatting it I checked everyting to see if it could be the problem, but nothing appeared wrong.
I think that updating the BIOS ended with some incompatibility with the Asus suite. It was also impossibile to uninstall completely the suite.

I decided to not reinstall the Asus AI suite to avoid problems in the future. I tuned the fans speed directly into the BIOS.

New progress. (I know I'm really slow but sometimes I prefer to ride the real bike instead of modeling the virtual one..)
Now the cockpit is complete. I had to manually adjust the geometry of the handlebar tape in order to conform to the tubes of the shifter and brakes.

The last component left to model is the SRAM Force 1 rear derailleur. It's quite complex for a modeling noob like me.

Here are some initial results, but keep in mind this is still a work in progress:

https://corona-renderer.com/comparer/xUfops

It works with procedural maps too, so you can for example randomize a directional noise or gradients.

Nice!! This is really promising!
