Hey guys. Just wanted to show a small project we did. Nothing to tell here. As usual 3ds Max + Corona. No post. :)

Thanks for watching! :)

Hey hey. Long time no post from me here in the forum.

Just a project to recreate Poliform's Aleo Pro Kitchen.
Not directly a 1:1 copy of the original photographs but a "lookalike"

Hope you like it :)

Hmm... don't think so. Generating caustics from environment is turned off.

First try with the new Clouds System. Great work. Thanks!

One thing I notived: It seems that Corona is calculating caustics, even when the sun is covered by clouds.
I guess this should not be the case.

Best,
Marcus

I see your sky still very bright from the sun, could it be that situation which creates those caustics in the second image?

Hi, do you use any scripted maps? It crashes in maxscript when preparing some map for rendering, unfortunately I dont know which one

Hi Ondra. Scripted maps? I don't think so. Basically it's almost a fresh version of 2023. The only extra maps I use are MultiTexture and the 4 Siger Maps. (Pro Simplex, Voroni, Scratches, etc.)

Not yet! :)
I will test this for a few days. Until now everything works. *fingers-crossed*

Please do and if it still crashes, let us know here.
Also, does it happen in any scene (even fresh) or only in some specific scene? What I am trying to figure out is whether it crashes when rendering a default shaderball or some specific material.

Hi Maru. Thanks for getting back. It happens in fresh and existing scenes.

Corona 8. No HF installed yet.
I will try it with the latest HF.

Hi. I have a problem here

Max 2023.
Corona 8.

In about 30 % of the time I'm opening the material editor (Compact) 3ds Max is crashing while loading the material previews. Randomly.
It also happens when I change some material parameters sometimes.

Minidump is included.

Help would be highly appreciated because it's getting quite frustrating.

Best,
Marcus

Wow. Great idea.
I will play with it a bit further. Let's see if I'm able to archive this complex and very hard shapes like in the reference.

Hi Maru!

Thanks! Great hint. I will play with this in the next time a bit to see what can be done with this technique.

In the meantime, here is what I archived so far.
I fractured on box and give it a material with Volume Scattering and a bit of Refraction.
In front is a normal un-fractured thinner box with the same material but a higher Refraction and higher Distance in Volumetric Scattering.

It looks not bad, although the fracture is still too uniform.
Drawback: 13 Passes (7,6%NL) on 2K resolution. Over 1 hour of rendering on a ThreadRipper 3990x

Try Layering Volumetric and Parallax mapping...

Uh? Could you explain this a bit further?
Right now I'm trying to fracture it bit more and putting a non-fractured layer in front.
(I will post a preview later this day. I never had something so time consuming to render.. :D)

Hi folks!

Currently I'm trying to recreate this type of Onyx material.
Especially I'm looking for this "volume-depth" feeling with all the cracks inside the material.

I tried SSS, Translucency and Refraction for this. But nothing is giving the desired effect.
I also fractured the whole geometry in 10000 pieces, but this is looking way to uniform.

Maybe someone have good technique for this kind of material.
