Work in Progress/Tests / Bed & Bath - WIP
« on: 2015-03-30, 10:40:54 »
Last week i found some spare time to try myself with another interior shot, inspired by this post on archdaily.

As always, Corona was so awesome to set up, even with the slightly limited features of the Cinema4D version that I use.

What was really weird - I let it render over the whole weekend (66h) and it only reached pass 160..?!
There's no portals for the windows in our version yet, and all the render settings are on default - except highlight compression is 2 and whitebalance 8500.

Scene is lit by Peter Guthrie's 1347 HDRI, no additional lights used.
I'm using 2 x Intel Xeon quad cores with 2,27 GHz.

Unfortunatelly i didn't use a render-stamp so that's all the info i can give...

Anyways I'd be very glas to get feedback about my scene so far, and of course if anyone knows how to speed that thing up, I'd be a happy man! :-)

Good Morning,

I really like the light setup and also how the translucency is showing through the tulips!

But you should improve the reflection of that brick wall - it should be really rough where the bricks are showing, and even a little less glossy where there is paint. Especiall bothering in the second (daylight) render!

Other than that, i think it's pretty good!

You know, I should have written the render times down!!. Damn. but it was like an 1 1/2 for the first one, and like 4-5 hours for the other two renders. Since they had a lot more blurred areas, that's what I think made them slower.
My rig is an i7 3930k hexacore/12 thread processor, Corsair 32gb 1600mhz ddr3, and a Samsung 250gb ssd as my main drive.

I'll try rendering the scene without dof and see how it looks.

If you don't mind sacrificing a small area of your render, you could turn on the render-stamp (Render Settings - Corona - VFB settings), so everyone could see the render's specs.

Looking forward to those renders!

Thank you both for your answers.
Since I'm new to Corona I don't really know exactly what those options mean, but I do have selected Path tracing and HD cache as Primary and secondary solvers in render options. What does the UHD option do?
-Caustics in my materials are off.
-I didn't use any glass surface in my windows, just the opening, it added way to much noise to the render, but next time I need the reflections in the windows I'll try the "thin" glass option.
- I'm used to do zdepth passes in VrayforC4D for simulating DOF, but I'm not sure how to do that in Corona C4D?

Thanks again!.

As far as i know is the UHD an updated version of HD-Cache wich works better with simulations (no flickering).

Again, as far as i know, we do not have the option for any additional passes in Corona for C4D yet, so it won't be easy to create a Z-Depth map.
Did you try to render your scene without any DoF, just to see what those fireflies look like totally sharp?

Also what are your render times / system specs?

Use PT + UHD / HD Cache.
Use Corona Ray Switch materials to avoid caustics emitting from reflective materials.
Turn off caustics for simple glass materials.
Replace Corona DOF with Z-Depth map and calculate DOF with Frischluft Lenscare/DOF Pro. DOF Pro calculates DOF much better than Frischluft. Frischluft is quick.
Use Corona Portal materials to optimize raytracing calculations to reduce noise.

He can't use portals or UHD because we C4D users are still waiting for those features.

But I would also suggest checking for PT + HD Cache and using "thin glass" (option in refraction channel) for the windows.
Imho the DoF looks okay, you probably are aware that it adds to the render time anyways, so if you would do that in post, the noise could clear up faster. :-)

Here is another view in the living room. Any more helpful critiques? You guys are great!

Good Morning,

first thing i noticed is that the guy's reflection in the window should be mirrored!
And then you should check your hovering flower-pots, because none of them seem to be standing on the floor/ground if you look at their shadows ;-)

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Corona C4D next release

yes, new build is planned soon (tm). A month, maybe?

This is really great news!
I'm using Corona C4D everyday at work, for tons of product visualisations and can't wait to get my hands on even more awesome features!

Keep up the magic :D

Have you tried Cinema's own "Interactive Render Region"?
This works like almost a real time progressive mode in my eyes...

I really like the emulated film look, and the overall composition!

For the sake of realism, those iMacs would need some cables, but those would have to fit with the pretty clean set-up of the desks of course...

Other than that - i think the look is really close to photoreal, and I wouldn't be able to achieve that at all!

coronascatter on carpet didn't turned out well.
modeled in 3dsmax, rendered in corona, a bit of postproduction in photoshop.

first of all, i like that wood texture - it isn't obviously repeating which is nice!

but the floors texture is scaled too big imho, looks quite blurry.

and if that hanging thing should be a lamp you have to give that sphere some wall-thickness, otherwise corona will render it as solid glass instead of a bulb or thin glass-ball

had some free time to continue on this small project and changed up a few things...

again C&C are welcome! :)

Okay I have a few bits of feedback for you. I will try and list them 1 by 1, but first overall there is something with the saturation of the background and the heavy contrast inside that doesn't align. It looks forced somehow.

...

Anyway, just my thoughts you can take it or leave it.  up to you :)

keep it up!

Thanks alot for your comment, this was exactly what I was hoping for!!
There is nothing better than a 1 by 1 list of all made mistakes for every beginner imho

As soon as I get to it, I'll definitelly try to work through those points :)

it looks like the perspective of the room and the background are off -  or are my eyes crossed..? :D

i have seen some. Maybe just forgot to put the groove.

thanks, now i know how i could "glue" my panels to the ground :)

learn something new everyday...

It's not mine to critisize any Corona render results yet.

However as an industiral designer, I want to ask you a technical question: How the hell could you install that security glass panel on the floor and the wall without using anything? Did you put some glue on it? :D (Just kidding. No offence bro)

Thanks for that hint - in fact that glass panel was the last thing i added before time ran out :D
In the end i want a mid-high concrete wall there with a sideboard or something infront.

But I guess that's the problem with 3D - you don't even need glue :D
