Chaos Corona 9 for 3ds Max and Cinema 4D released!

Procedural Clouds, Corona Pattern, Edge Trimming for Chaos Scatter, Depth of Field for Fisheye Lenses, Out-of-Core Textures to save memory, Shutter Curves for motion blur… and more!

Full details and download: https://blog.corona-renderer.com/chaos-corona-9-released/

  • Procedural Clouds – Add detail to your Corona Sky, with animatable procedural clouds and airplane trails. You may never need an HDRI again.
  • Corona Pattern – Tile geometry across a surface as easily as you’d tile a texture, for more realism while using less memory than a texture-based approach. Sample geometry to use with Pattern can be downloaded here.
  • Edge Trimming in Chaos Scatter – a much requested feature to let you keep the edges of your Scatters neat and tidy.
  • Out-of-Core textures – Let Corona automatically optimize the memory used for textures by enabling this optional feature.
  • Shutter Curve for motion blur – Control the speed of the opening and closing of the shutter to control the look of your motion blur. Sample curves can be downloaded here.
  • Depth of Field for Fisheye Cameras – An artistic effect not seen with real-world fisheye lenses.
  • Chaos Scans – Simply download and apply a Scanned Material to get the ultimate in realism. Compatibility added, and your Premium subscription includes a Scans license.
  • Chaos Phoenix – Corona has supported Phoenix for some years, but only a few users had it added to their toolset due to the significant extra cost. Now the perfect tool for making fire, smoke, water, and more is included in your Premium subscription.
  • Chaos Player – An easy way to turn your image sequences into a video format. Now you won’t have to use a complex video editor that is overkill for your everyday needs. Included in the Premium subscription.
  • And more!
For this release, everyone gets a full 30-day trial period, even if you have used a trial before, to give you time to try out all the new features.
Remember, you can read about this release in detail over at https://blog.corona-renderer.com/chaos-corona-9-released/

Everyone with an active license has access, and the downloads are in the usual locations.

3ds Max
Cinema 4D

A Release Candidate is close to being the final release, but we need your feedback to catch any remaining bugs or other issues from real world testing.
Here are the major features in Corona 9:
  • Procedural Clouds - easily add clouds and airplane contrails to your procedural Corona sky. Unlike HDRIs, these are easily edited to match your scene, respond to the angle of the sun, and can be animated!
  • Corona Pattern - tile geometry as easily as you would tile a texture, giving you better results than alpha and bump maps, and using less memory too!
  • Edge Trimming in Chaos Scatter - get those lawns under control with neat edges!
  • Reduce memory required by Corona Bitmaps by up to 30%, with out-of-coretextures
  • Shutter Curves for Motion Blur so you can realistically or creatively control the blurring
  • Compatibility with Chaos Scans materials
  • And much more!

News / Chaos Corona 8 for 3ds Max and Cinema 4D released!
« on: 2022-04-13, 17:12:16 »
Chaos Corona 8 for 3ds Max and Cinema 4D released!

Cosmos, Scatter, Decals, ACES OT, new Tone Mapping, Slicer, Curvature, Cryptomatte, and more! All this makes Corona 8 the largest release ever in terms of new features - full details and download: https://blog.corona-renderer.com/chaos-corona-8-released/

  • Chaos Cosmos – Instant content for your scenes, at no charge, accessible within your 3D software.
  • Chaos Scatter – Add rocks, plants, and other details to your scene with ease.
  • Corona Decal – Easily add surface details or imperfections, including displacement, from within the 3D viewport, reducing the need to fiddle with UV placement, making it the best-in-industry solution for decals that we know of.
  • ACES OT – just one of the new operators in the Tone Mapping stack, but we’re calling it out on its own as it’s one we are sure you will love. No settings required, just enable it and enjoy the final look this gives your image.
  • Customizable Tone Mapping in the VFB – More realistic results with greater customization options, as you can now create your own customizable stack of tone mapping controls.
  • Corona Slicer – Create easy cutaways that can be animated, which are faster, more forgiving on topology, and have none of the instability of geometry-based booleans.
  • Corona Curvature map – Add dirt or wear-and-tear to objects with ease.
  • Cryptomatte support – A masking option that works with motion blur and depth of field, to make post-processing easier than ever.
  • Adjustable PBR reflection tail – Even more realistic materials allowing for “softer” reflections without the blurriness of Roughness/Glossiness.
  • Caustics Include/Exclude control.
That’s so many features even this Quick List is not that quick!

For this release, everyone gets a full 45-day trial period, even if you have used a 45-day trial before, to give you time to try out all the new features!

The New Licensing

If you have been keeping up with the latest Daily Builds, you will already have set yourself up on the new licensing and no further action is required.

For those who have not been following along as the changes arrive and trying out the dailies, here is the information you will need to set up your licensing for the first time:
  • This is the same licensing mechanism that is used in V-Ray and other Chaos products
  • Install the Release Candidate
    • Please note that the Licensing Server is mandatory - if you use a Custom install, be sure to have this checked (it will be preselected by default). Please note that Custom Install may be selected for you where an Update is not possible - this is normal, and expected. If installing Corona for the first time then the Typical installation option will automatically include the Licensing Server without any additional action from you.
  • Open 3ds Max or Cinema 4D, and select Corona as your active render engine
  • Open the render settings - if you see those settings, you are done! Stop here, and enjoy using Corona :)
  • If you do not see the render settings (the UI will tell you there is no license with the instruction to go to the About tab, or the panels may be blank), and you have an active Corona license then:
    • In 3ds Max: go to Render Setup > System > About Corona and click “Activate license”
    • In C4D: go to About > Corona and click “Activate license”
  • If you have an active Corona license and have signed in to your Chaos account before, you are done - your license is now activated
  • If you have an active Corona license but have never signed in to your Chaos account before, you will be given a message that the Licensing Server is not running or you are not signed in - click the “Open Licensing Server” button to run it, sign in if requested, and you are done!
  • If you do not have an active Corona license, after clicking “Activate License” you will see a pop-up informing you that you do not have a license - click “Activate Trial” in that pop-up to continue
  • This will take you to the login screen for your Chaos account in your browser - please login using your username and password
  • If you already have a Chaos account:
    • Sign in with your registered email and password (the same you’ve been using to activate Corona or other Chaos products so far)
    • Once logged in, your trial is activated and you can click “Retry” in the licensing pop-up, and you are done!
    • If you do not already have a Chaos account:
    • Create a new account from the web page, rather than signing in
    • You will receive an email, click “activate account” there
    • This automatically activates the trial and you can return to Corona and click the “Retry” button in the licensing pop-up, and your license is now activated
Note: You may have to wait 10 to 15 seconds before clicking the “Retry” button in the steps above
