I've found a very weird problem in Corona R3. Some images are loaded totally off when using Corona Bitmap. They look Ok when loaded using Max standard bitmap though. Any idea what's going on?

Could you send us at least one of the problem images? Can do it via ticket ( if it can't be shared publicly on the forum.

Hi all! We most definitely do test all the assets, but of course the testing isn't an overnight or instant process. Corona and V-Ray handle and import IOR a little differently, and we've been working on ensuring those imports work equally well in Corona and give comparable results as when imported to V-Ray. It's an ongoing process though, both the testing of assets and the adjusting of the import.

As part of this, we'll be hiding some Cosmos assets from the Corona Cosmos browser next week, ones that are still not importing to Corona as well as we'd like. That way we keep the visible assets to the ones that are working well, to save annoyance of importing something and finding it needs manual adjustment (the same process has been done before, there was an earlier thread from a month or so ago about some items visible in V-Ray Cosmos that were not visible in Corona Cosmos, which was part of this same ongoing process).

Which is all to say - we are aware, we are working on it, and don't panic if some things "disappear" or show up for one engine but not the other for a while. And of course we do welcome reports of specific models or materials that don't seem to be working correctly for you, that can also help guide us to further fixes and improvements. Thanks!

Both caches have the Animation button, that's the important part for animations, that button :) The 4K Cache is best to use by default in all situations, but that's just in general - it's not that "If you are doing animations, enable the 4K cache" it's just "If you are working with Corona, enable the 4K Cache, and only disable it if you run into some niche situation where it causes artifacts".

I found the same thing, you can animate photographic exposure (ty for adding the info on how to do that BigAl3D!), but not simple exposure.

The 4K Cache is not related to animation or still, though. It is usually best for stills AND for animations. Animations benefit from saving and reloading the cache, but that is true whether UHD or 4K Cache is used (all about not recalculating the cache for every frame).

Do you have the minidump you can send in, and to be precise, which of the several incarnations of Corona 8? :)

Pattern should be very good at adding fuzzy hairs, without taking up too much resources (since the source geometry is only loaded once), if you don't want to wait :)

Chaos Corona 9 (Release Candidate 1) is out now, for both 3ds Max and Cinema 4D!
Everyone with an active license has access, and the downloads are in the usual locations.

A Release Candidate is close to being the final release, but we need your feedback to catch any remaining bugs or other issues from real world testing.
Here are the major features in Corona 9:
  • Procedural Clouds - easily add clouds and airplane contrails to your procedural Corona sky. Unlike HDRIs, these are easily edited to match your scene, respond to the angle of the sun, and can be animated!
  • Corona Pattern - tile geometry as easily as you would tile a texture, giving you better results than alpha and bump maps, and using less memory too!
  • Edge Trimming in Chaos Scatter - get those lawns under control with neat edges!
  • Reduce memory required by Corona Bitmaps by up to 30%, with out-of-coretextures
  • Shutter Curves for Motion Blur so you can realistically or creatively control the blurring
  • Compatibility with Chaos Scans materials
  • And much more!

Corona 9 is already feature frozen, due for release in 2 weeks; it will be impossible to add this (or any other new feature) to 9, but it can be considered for a future version. Just to manage expectations :)

Please say which version of Max, which version of Corona, and which assets (you can post their name). Looks like a known issue where the IOR is too high, making them shiny, temporarily you can manually reduce the IOR after import.
