Increase light sample multiplier?

I set it at 10. In an old discussion Rawalance said that 10 is an extreme value. Don't know if that value was specific for that scene or it has to be considered as a general rule.

Will adjust the refraction mode Twosided, to reduce glass on the back of Noise.

Ops, I was tired...I set the opposite as I wrote. Yes every glass material has TWOSIDED option active.

I tried Gaussian at 2, but I have to reach high pass values to understand the texture on the wall and it blur the image too much. No image filter gives understandable texture faster, but the biggest noise is carried by lights.

Hi Coronauts,
I'm working on a theatre for a friend's last year university project. It came just in time for trying this wonderful renderer! Usually I use vray as my renderer of choice, but some details and materials in this project bring me the idea that Corona will handle this better than vray.
The main hard work for vray could be the ceiling: there are series of rectangular extruded profile that light cache and irradiance map will go crazy to calculate. There are also a lot of blurry reflection and some indirect lights.
At this moment I build the main structure and some furniture (the bookshop on the right), I have to fill the foyer with people (the models in the render are just placeholders) and objects like banners, chairs, actors...
"Secondary ceiling lights" are not defined yet, they will come soon. Exterior light is Corona sky for the environment and a Corona sun set at low altitude to simulate a late summer afternoon.
There will be interior and exterior renders.

Meanwhile I'm trying to understand/optimize render settings. I used PT+HC cache as suggested in the tutorials and in the forum, but some settings are still a mistery. I read and re-read the online documentation, I'm sure that with practice everything will become more familiar.

The big question now is how to reduce all that noise in the fartest part, the wall at the end of the foyer. The material is the same concrete on the left, but it is unrecognizable. The nearest part has low noise level (due to a big opening behind the camera...), but the fartest part show high amount of noise (there's a big opening on the left). Another thing that left me astonished is that the low glossiness metal is noise free. I think that the noise on the fartest part of the foyer is carried by the light samples (!??). Obviously every glass is single plane with single sided glass material. I reached pass 41, but at pass 25/30 the render was the same. I think that if I let render few hours more the noise will reduce, but maybe there are some settings totally wrong due to my inexperience.

I'm still working on this scene, I will post updates soon. Bye!

Exactly Rawalance. On my monitor I can't see any bump or texture, it seems chocolate, not a bad idea, but it will be another kind of image ;)
Don't worry, image in beautiful at this stage :D

Just one thing: the bark! Where's the bark! ;)
Beautiful image and especially the light

i7 2600k@default

2 notebook i7, one 1.7ghz the other 2.0ghz

I haven't a powerful rig, but I'm waiting for distributed rendering.

Here you an example. I found that the problem could to be the fog color in vray material. Maybe because in Corona there's no value like that, in fact I had problems achieving the same effect on another scene, building the material from scratch. I tried to change the refraction color, but it will affect also the "amount [level] of refractiveness", I ended up with too much a bright color.
Settings in the hidden tabs are at default values.

Thank you for the support

I found some weird behaviour with glass conversion from vray material: everything in corona material is set correctly, diffuse/reflection/refraction except obviously the twosided check , but the material preview slot appear black, if the refraction value is 0. Resetting the material in a new corona material solve the problem. Everything else works fine.

Thank you for the script.

Yes I know, all glasses are already single face geometry and with twosided glass material. In fact, the error message appeared after deleting all unnecessary geometries.

Thank you both for the quick and precise solution, it obvisiouly worked. I erased all my vray render elements and everything's fine.
It's strange that it doesn't appear at first render.

I've got this error just after hit the render button from the top bar or in the render settings dialog, but everything works fine is I press F9. Same thing if I press the "render!" button in the VFB.
Started working few minutes on a huge vray scene, converted with the script in max 2012, then after doing some test renders and modify objects/lights/materials the error appear. First time appear after changing the environment in the render dialog, then I loaded an autobackup, second time after editing some geometries.

Bye

Very convincing light.
It's the straight render from Corona or it has some post?

Hi, I'm Andrea, an italian architect living in Barcelona.
I 'm an "archivizzer" and interested in generative architecture and performance based architectural modeling. I work usually with 3DS Max and Rhinoceros. During the long pauses between a work and another I usually work as generalist for myself or doing some architectural porn with rhinoceros and scripting.

Started CG in 1999-2000 at last year of high school with caligari trueSpace and Bryce3D (!!), then switched to max 5 at university (Radiosity and Light Tracer, they were like science fiction to me). Since 2005 started using vray, then in 2007 switched to Mental Ray, then another time to Vray this year due to inefficient light solutions during my thesys project (lot of indirect illumination and particular light condition, in the future I will make some tests with Corona...).

I discovered Corona this May, but never tried for lack of time, on Mental Ray forum thanks to Rawalanche comparisons during my "self thought" way to optimize render times.

This engine seems quite fast at this early stage, can't imagine how fast could be in the future. And it's less than 3 MB!!

Totally right for a commercial version at reasonable price.

Don't know if it could be implemented like maxwell/fryrender/etc...
Multipliers divided per group light in the post processing tab or a tab integrated in the VFB

Mainly v-ray, switched from mental ray due to GI issues on certain light conditions
