[Max] I need help! / Re: DR Issue - Vanishing Objects
« on: 2014-11-10, 00:26:44 »
Also, if it is a material issue, any suggestions on what might be causing it? Opacity map? Single sided/thin material? Translucency? Refraction?

Cheers Guys,

Mark

I thought this may have been the case too, but it would appear perhaps not. It's also only an issue when using multiple machines. I will run further tests today to try and isolate the issue somehow. Thanks for the reply belly, ill keep my results posted here.

*last update.

Re merged new trees again (this time not proxied) and same issue. As the passes increase, the transparency increases with it, at least that's the best way I can describe it. Rendering it locally now as I have 7 more images to get out for this project and have wasted 2 days trying to truobleshoot this thing. Any and all suggestions would be truly appreciated guys.

*further update. Doesn't seem to be the materials. I created a new set of trees and a new set of proxies for them, copied materials from trees that are working as proxies in the scene and re rendered only to have the same results. I'm back to think thins is a proxy issue. Any help/suggestions would be really appreciated guys. I would love to get corona working perfectly in the studio (not just my local machine). Would be really interested to hear set up/workflow form anyone who has successfully implemented corona across an entire office (+5 workstations and 20 nodes and counting here)

Update: The issue might be in the material? Just applied a clay material and it seemed to render out fine. Has anyone experienced any difficulties with DR and translucency or anything? Im using pretty basic maps for my trees and have never ha d an issue with them in the past.

Hi Guys,

Having a bit of a strange issue using DR. I have everything set up properly as far as assets being in readable locations for the network and the DR Servers are all installed and working. When I render using DR the speed is great,
no hangs or anything but after about 30 passes a few of my tree proxys start to vanish (opacity drops down to perhaps 30%). I have never seen this before and was hoping if anyone could office any ideas? As mentioned, all map
and model locations are in the right place and DR seems to be working great except for my vanishing trees. I am running a test at the moment having reimported the trees again and left un- proxied and the seem to be working as they
should. Perhaps the issue is with the proxy and not DR....but other proxies in the scene are working fine.

Any help would be great. Will post a pic soon.

Cheers guys

Very nice, I particularly like the composition of image 5 and 7! There is a bit of burn in a few images but overall its a really well considered, and nicely detailed set of images. Congrats :)

Hi...very nice render..i love the texturing part more.. btw how did you model the brick wall where ivy is placed. and which hdri you used here.

Thanks very much. The brick wall is just a basic dif/reflect/bump map combination + a little displacement. The corner I modified in post to give more of a jagged edge. The HDRI is one of Peter Guthries (Cloudy morning sun).

Hi Guys,

Here's a quick shot from a scene I was working on last week in my spare time based on a building by architect Cassion Castle. Ive always found something cool about these hidden lane way architecture gems and a 3 meter tall front door lets in all the COOL! Rendered for about 2 hours and lit mainly with HDRI with a little help from corona sun at about .1 multiplier. I don't normally put people in my scenes but this one really called for it to add interest and a bit of a story. Matching the 2D cutout to appear to be holding the bike tire was a real challenge as the perspective of the cut out is a bit different from the aspect I wanted to capture. I also took the opportunity to play around with some basic leaf meshes for gwivy which I hadn't done before. Its a far more powerful plugin that I realised and will definitely be looking at it in some more detail in coming projects.

I like that kind of gamma, night renders with artificial lighting will be later.

Cool, I was referring to these images though. Most architectural photography utelises artificial + natural lighting when shooting interiors. Not only is it going to help brighten up your scene but the additional light sources create extra shadow definition and interest and can even help lead the viewers eye around the image done correctly. You have lots of reflective surfaces/objects that would reflect additional light so perhaps its worth a try? You might be surprised how much more detail some extra/subtle light sources may give these images :)

Hi Vogor,

Your level of detail in most of these images is really good but like a few have said before, I too think they fall on the dark side (accidental Star Wars reference) of where they could/should be. To remedy this, i'm wondering if it's not worth introducing some artificial light into the scenes? Turn you lamps on and some overhead lighting too and i think your end result will be MUCH more engaging. Keep up the good work!
