[Max] Feature Requests / Install CIE in start menu
« on: 2020-10-30, 20:42:46 »
Just a small quality of life thing but it would be nice to have a start menu entry for corona image editor.

Im just curious if anyones ever made something similar to a mother of pearl or 'nacre' material.
Im  thinking some combination of Siger Thinfilm and a custom IOR map but the way it glistens in non-uniform directions is something ive not seen recreated before.

[Max] Feature Requests / Adjust DOF in post
« on: 2020-10-13, 16:00:06 »
I know it has been requested a few years ago, and it would be a technological feat but the ability to adjust actual depth of field after a render is complete in the CIE would be pretty great.
IMHO Zdepth introduces far too many artefacts on hard edges in post.

Im sure it would be appreciated by alot of users and im concious of just how much development this kind of feature would take but just thought id put it up again to see if anyone else is interested in seeing something like this.

It would be great if there was the option within the lightmix tab in the buffer to actually turn the lights on or off rather than just turning off the layer.
It would stop those times when a render goes wrong because the light is still on in the scene after playing in lightmix.

Not an urgent feature but a 'nice to have'

When using ID masks, a layered material will not show on a mask layer when masked by ID if the base material within the layered material doesnt share the same ID.

Setup:

Layered material = ID 1
Base material = ID 0
Mask element = ID 1

Mask will not show the layered material assigned to the geometry until the base is also ID 1.
Not sure if a bug or a feature as the Layered material should automatically be picked up by the mask IMHO. It shouldnt rely on the base i think?

[Max] Resolved Feature Requests / Corona for Unreal Engine?
« on: 2020-03-25, 12:09:14 »
Given that Vray, Octane and Redshift are all developing (or have) integrations with Unreal. Is it in 'future planning' for Corona at all?
More and more I'm seeing that renders arent the end of the pipe for visualisation anymore and the current interoperability with corona and unreal leaves a lot to be desired once you're in the engine.

[Max] I need help! / Corona and UE4 Datasmith
« on: 2020-03-25, 10:53:37 »
Has anyone had some decent success with datasmith from corona into UE4?
All the tutorials for datasmith seem to yield a lot nicer results from Vray than corona out of the box. Especially with regards to lighting.

It would be so much more intuitive if the uvw randomiser played nicely with real world scale maps allowing you to offset in scene units rather than uv space.

Use case: Ive been trying to map a big seamless sheet of wood to a floor gen floor and want it to take any random section of the texture whatsoever and apply it to a plank. I know the real world scale of the texture and should be able to work in that scale. It seems like total guesswork with the uvw randomiser map to get it to just randomly tile at the correct scale unless i'm being stupid and completely missing something obvious.

[Max] I need help! / Tips on mapping a floor gen floor?
« on: 2020-03-18, 18:00:30 »
There must be some trick to this because ive been trying to figure it out for a while and never seem to be able to get the texture size correct.
How do you randomise a map across a floorgen floor? Do you HAVE to use multitexture or can it be achieved with the corona multimap/uvw randomiser?

Just doing some troubleshooting on a failed set of renders and we are having issues with black tiles from scenes rendering from Vray Cameras using deadline.
Has anyone had any experience of this? The renders appear to render fine locally and its completely reproducable when using deadline.

Thanks

[Max] I need help! / Scene Check action?
« on: 2020-03-12, 14:01:19 »
Can anyone tell me what the scene check action does?

Code: [Select]
1655 ID:27654 Desc:'Check of scene correctness' Cat:'Corona Renderer' BtnTxt:'Scene Check' MnuTxt:'Scene Check'
It returns a boolean but i cant find any documentation on it.

I made some registry keys that will allow you to add cxr conversions to your right click context menu and it saved a load of time. A little quality of life improvement!
It works per file and for a whole folder.

PREREQUISITES
Download the corona batch editor for your version from https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/12000030886-what-is-the-corona-image-editor-#batch
Download the zip attached to this post.

Instructions
You will be adding registry keys to your system. Its on you if you mess it up!

Open up the zip file and put the .bat files somewhere safe. I eventually put them in the corona program files folder so i wouldn't move them accidentally.
Then you need to open each batch file and edit the path to the corona image editor executable on your system.
Open up the .reg file in notepad and adjust the paths to the batch files to reflect wherever you placed them. Be careful not to delete any " or other characters.
Save the .reg file and double click it. Hit yes on both prompts.

You should now have context menu items in file explorer when you right click on CXR files as well as in folders. You can also select multiple cxr's and right click to convert.

Limitations
Don't have any periods in your folder names as that seems to cause issues.

Any other issues, post here and hopefully people with some more batch script knowledge can help!
To add further file formats you can open up the batch files and edit the output format, just make sure to add new keys in the .reg file and rename them.
Enjoy!

Im not sure on the technicalities of this, But its currently not that easy to process CXR files. They have to be individually opened to save out a different format. Not only that but if you open it as an EXR for the sake of batching and save out another format, the tonemapping settings of the CXR are obviously lost meaning it produces an image with the tonemapping at its default settings. Im guessing this is due to the tonemapping settings being saved as additional EXR attributes.

For what is a very powerful filetype it would be really nice to be able to batch process them a little better expecially when you're working in a studio pipeline and have to do the exact same steps dozens of times per day just to save out a TIF. A Batch tool inside CIE would be great so it only needs to be opened once. It would be great to be able to save out multiple filetypes and resolutions on the fly as well as specifying output folders and naming conventions.

It would be useful in some instances to be able to manipulate the shape of the corona volume grid with FFD or bend modifiers to make existing simulations fit more challenging scenarios.
For example id like to stretch the top quarter of a smoke simulation to make it appear its being pulled by a fan but AFAIK this isnt possible?

[Max] General Discussion / Deadline drafting and corona
« on: 2020-02-27, 15:18:57 »
Has anyone had any issues using the draft feature in deadline?
Im trying to get it to save out a jpeg as well as the CXR but it never seems to save the main cxr, only the render passes.
