Someone on Max Forums posted a question about simulating lightguides (solid glass to change the direction of a beam of light)
I thought it sounded like something corona might be capable of after remembering the thread from a while back where someone had built actual lenses that worked infront of the max camera and i thought id give it a go. However i tried this and the light (rectangle light with directionality set to 1 and tried with 0) just disappears and doesnt shine out of the other side of the glass. is there anything i need to do to get it to work properly? Caustics are enabled but the light intensity through a solid block of glass is basically 0.

Thanks
Jack

EDIT: Sorry I should have put this in the help forums.Ive attached an image from the vfb. The black dot on one side of the block is a light set to the highest possible intensity of 999999 and as you can see nothing is coming through the other side.

I have a folder of jpegs that arent technically jpegs as they end in .1 or .2
I have a max file that references these.
I need to rename them in the folder to .jpg and have max make the same name change in the bitmap slots.
Has anyone got any thoughts or snippets that could help me?
Thanks
Jack

Im not sure if everyone thinks this would be good. But i certainly would like it if the denoise was set to full denoise by default and was enabled for the Light select render elements by default too. Just a small annoyance when i forget to enable it :)

Id like to be able to select an object (a model of a light) and have max copy another object (an IES light) to the position of each light model if that makes sense? Can anyone help me?

Thanks
Jack

A Colleague of mine mentioned he had a message pop up saying that his render may be slow if a certain amount of lightmix elements were used.
Is there an actual limit to the amount or is it just however much data your ram can hold?

Thanks
Jack

Im looking at implementing version control into our design viz pipeline at work and im trying to get my head around what is required in terms of setup and stuff for a version control system like perforce before i get too deep into it. Can anyone offer any advice on how one would go about using version control on a private server with max?

Thanks
Jack

[Max] General Discussion / Corona academy
« on: 2016-11-07, 09:59:56 »
Hi, Just a quick couple of questions about your academy.

1.The certification needs to be renewed every 2 years. does that mean having to travel to your HQ every 2 years to re-train? Or can that part be done remotely?
2. How often would your academies run? It seems a little short notice to give people less than a month in advance to plan a trip to Prague!

Thats all for now!
Thanks :)

[Max] Resolved Bugs / Light leaks on intersecting edges
« on: 2016-11-04, 12:48:32 »
There was a thread about this a few weeks back but i cant find it anywhere.
Im getting light leaks on intersecting edges when rendering.
Its definitely a corona problem because it doesnt happen with ART.
I know you guys were looking at it but couldnt replicate. I can upload the scene if necessary.

Thanks
Jack

Mass material import/export V0.1

I hope some people will find this useful. This will import a folder full of .mat files into your scene so you can convert them and will then save them out back into individual mat files.

Run the script. press import. locate your mats folder.
It will import them all into the scene and apply them to small boxes.
The corona converter will open.
Convert as necessary and then click export.
Choose your export folder. It will save out with the original name and a '_crn' suffix.
If you have an older version of the converter (1.29) open the script in notepad and find the line at the bottom referencing the converter and just change your version in the string.

Let me know if you have any issues.

Enjoy!

Hey corona :)

I Subscribe to both 3D World and 3D Artist and its great to see your full page ads.
However my one criticism would be that your brand isnt particularly visible on the page. Its not completely clear what corona is imo.
I like how bold the ad is though. It always tricks me into thinking its an article in the magazine.

I might be wrong and you might be selling licenses like a badass because of these ads but its just a thought ;)

[Max] I need help! / Demo license expiration
« on: 2016-10-31, 09:46:20 »
One of my team has got the 45 day demo of 1.5.1 but today it says it has ran out despite the build date being only a few weeks ago.
Is this an error or do you get 45 days total of all future demos?

Thanks

Hi All,

A while back i ran into a problem whereby you cant render volumetric fog when the camera is inside the volume. Is this something youre currently working on or have any plans to work on in the future?

Thanks :)

[Max] I need help! / Can we render deep EXR's with corona?
« on: 2016-10-25, 17:37:15 »
Im looking for a way to render a scene in layers and deep seems the way to go.
By that i mean id like to be able to render once, and turn off say the foreground layer and still see that was 'behind' the foreground layer. There might be a better way. Possibly just render layers? I dont know
Can corona do this yet?

Thanks
Jack
