I think i get what you're saying.
You want to know how to get an image that looks like a "RAW" image from a digital camera?

maybe I will take picture of how I have this done in this case in one of my builds).
Yes please!! :D
Also can you note which ones are intake and which ones are exhaust?
That would be much appreciated

R6 is tiny case :- ) ? It's the best mid-tower case on market, it has fantastic airflow, you can even look up benchmarks for it (on GamerNexus, no one else does that kind of stuff). You can put 3 fans in front (2 front one bottom front) and open up the moduvent on top (opening up both slots helps with GPU, but hurts the CPU, opening only the second one helps both). Or you can keep the front open, or take out the dust filter.

The actual problem is more related to high-clocked RTX-Super cards and fans ramping up to 2000+ RPM very easily. You can only solve this by lowering the power limit so the card stay cooler at expense of some performance. It's not airflow starved.
https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-geforce-rtx-2080-super-turing-ray-tracing,6243-5.html

My 3950X also boosts mostly to 4.5/4.55 but that is kind of expected as it's marketed as "up to" and those are just spikes basically, for few seconds, it's not sustained boost. Some people are annoyed by this marketing but Intel now does it as well with "Velocity Boost clocks".
4.1-4.3Ghz all-core boost on other hand is more than advertised and just great.

There is one aspect to Zen architecture and that's stress on memory controller being inverse to CPU. So high-clocked memory will inadvertly take down a bit of single-core boost. It's possible to stay at lower memory frequency but with faster timings to get around this. But it all makes absolutely no difference in the end, none of it is perceptible difference in performance.

For higher performance, there are Threadrippers.

Oh the R6 was absolutely a joy to work in! Best case for cable management.
I will get some Noctua fans and do exactly as you mentioned to see if that helps with airflow. Downclocking the GPU is a good idea, i'll tweak it once i get home.
What do you mean by " and open up the moduvent on top (opening up both slots helps with GPU, but hurts the CPU, opening only the second one helps both)"?

Don't want to hijack the thread but also didn't want to post a new one just to show off my build
I finally got my 3950x during the Christmas break and spend a good chunk of time getting it setup.
I'm sort of disappointed that it doesn't run at the 4.7Ghz listed, not even on a single core. I saw it turbo up to 4.4Ghz once, that's about it.
So far it runs at 4.1-4.3Ghz when rendering at 65-70C. The only problem is that my GPU is now super noisy in this tiny case :( Not enough airflow i guess compared to my old one. I think i shouldn't have opted for a "quiet case" and instead for something with high airflow.
The specs are :
• CPU : Ryzen 9 3950X w Noctua NH-D15 Ryzen edition
• GPU : RTX 2080 Super
• G.Skill Neo 32GB 3200 MHz
• Motherboard : Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Hero
• Case : Fractal Design Refine R6 USB-C
• PSU : Corsair AX860i - 860W PSU

Hardware / Re: Workstation configuration

Regarding boards for 3950X, you can compare them here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1wmsTYK9Z3-jUX5LGRoFnsZYZiW1pfiDZnKCjaXyzd1o/htmlview#gid=2112472504

The choice between X470 & X570 is mostly about how long-term you plan this as workstation. The price difference isn't that big, so I would just go with X570.

With the above suggestion to buy top-tier Gigabyte... if you enjoy wasting money maybe. 16+3 power phases are nice, but we are talking 16-core Ryzen, not 32+ core Threadripper. It's waste of money in every single way. 700 Euro boards for 900 Euro chip ? My top-level 2990WX boards were 600 Euro (both with 16+ power phases).

Entry level Asus boards are good choice because they have all good VRM, STRIX-E, TUF,..They have 6 doublers (12 power stages), or 6 doublers + 2 PCH power stages. Basically 12 or 14 power stages, more than enough for 3950X.

For 32GB memory dimms, I would buy the Corsair Kit. Buy the 3000 CL15 2x32GB, it's the best rated option available. In future, when you buy another, it's questionable if it will be able to run at 3000 CL15 as well..but it's still the only choice you have.

My choice for suggesting used 1080ti still stands. I recently upgraded every workstation we have with Quadro RTX 5000 because we need 16GB Vram in office...FOR VIEWPORT ! :- O so I can't image living with 8GB. And surprise..the viewport is same speed as 1080ti (RTX 5000 is equivailent of 2080 non-Ti).
So until GeForce 3080ti with 16GB memory comes along, the current choice is waste of money outside of GPU rendering. If you do GPU rendering, get 2080ti, but non-ti versions (basic and super) are poor choice. 8GB is too little for anything, I can eat that up in Photoshop alone.

My thoughts exactly. I will be going with the Asus Crosshair VIII Hero, I put in an order for the chip yesterday, hoping for delivery at the beginning of January.
We were just given a rather large animation case with a lot of moving people and about 60-90 seconds of film. Decided it was time for a workstation upgrade/christmas present for myself.
I'll let you know how it runs once i get it! Thanks for the RAM recommendation, I'll get those too thanks a lot

I have such a strong urge to build 3970X, but I'll wait for the January info. On other hand, I received all parts for 3950X build today, and I will be building it in next few days.
Please do a separate post once you finish that build!
I would love to hear your thoughts, think I'll be building my own workstation with the 3950x in January.

Looks really nice. Good job :)
We were just commissioned for an animation job, we need to produce 1,5 mins of footage.
Was wondering what kind of settings did you use to avoid flicker, and also what you did to optimize?

Finally the wait for 3950X is over.
So here's is my setup at the moment, I would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions on it.

CPU
AMD Ryzen 9 3950X
900€

MB
ASUS TUF GAMING X570-PLUS: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/TUF-GAMING-X570-PLUS/
250€

Or should I go with PCie3 ASROCK Taichihttps://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X470%20Taichi/index.asp ?
Since there is no obvious advantade over the PCie4 boards at the moment.

RAM
64GB (2x32GB) https://www.adata.com/us/orderinfo/483
This leaves to slots open for possible upgrade to 128GB
300€

GPU
Used 1080 ti
500€

HEATSINK
NOCTUA NH-D15 chromax.black https://noctua.at/en/nh-d15-chromax-black
100€

best,
matej

That's very similar to the build I'm doing. The only difference is the GPU (RTX 2080 Super).
Still unsure about the motherboard, my colleague is urging me to get the super expensive GIGABYTE X570 AORUS XTREME https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X570-AORUS-XTREME-rev-10#kf
Something about gigabyte investing heavily into making sure Ryzen is super stable. I might be inclined to get it if what he says has any truth to it.

re: the latest render, maybe try to split the large area to two more separate like spaces? Also the floor looks a bit busy with the largea area.. not always but oftentimes the planks would be directed towards the main window openings so in this case 90 degree rotation and maybe scaling the floor boards up a bit would help - or maybe the camera FOV is too large. Anyway it's a good start.
Great feedback! I already changed the floor and I'm now working on a different dinner table.
After that, I'll begin on a couch. Not looking forward to that one. Thanks for the comment

Hey your render looks great, I do have a couple questions about the scene. What was your approach to lighting this scene, e.g. sun / sky? How did you approach the floor, e.g. geo or displacement?
Hey cjwidd
It's pretty straight forward. I had a lot of trouble getting the look that I wanted from the corona sun/sky. I've been doing some tests today and still can't seem to make it look the way I want :(.
In these images, I'm using the same Peter Guthrie 1322  HDRI. I will say, render timers are through the roof! The first image let sit for 9 hours and it's still noisy. Floor planks are from Textures.com with a bunch of color correction. Thinking about changing the floor tho...
Here are some updated renders, my interior design skills are failing me, think I will be spending the week on Pinterest finding good reference images. Also, I spend like 1,5 hours creating those salt shakers... Probably not a good use of my time.
Most of the of the other models are just free ones i'm playing with.

Hello and happy friday everyone!
I decided to celebrate that my forum account has been approved, with a little post about what I'm currently tinkering with outside of work.
Where I'm currently employed we work exclusively with V-ray. BUT I've been keeping an eye on corona ever since the alpha stages and remember being impressed back then.
But I gotta say, if I was impressed back then, then I'm blown away now. The way corona handles bloom and glare is amazing, it's intuitive and easy to work with, converting scenes is a breeze.
I think i have a new favorite render engine, and I've dreaded having to work with V-ray all week.
Enough of that tho.
My brother and I are working on starting our own thing on the side. Since he's a corona user, I thought i should spend some time catching up before we go live.
Here are some images I worked on these past few days.
I will update as the project comes along.
Please, if you have any comments or any thoughts that you wanna share, don't hesitate to post here!
I'm open to all criticism, creative or technical.
