So it seems that the black screen + need to unplug the PC from power issue is most probably caused by using a combination of 2990wx (and possibly other CPUs) with hardware which was not really designed for handling such CPUs (such as motherboards or PSUs).
This seems to be confirmed by what Juraj wrote here:

And also on various hardware forums online.

I can confirm this also. I had to send back my 2990wx system a year ago as no motherboard apart from the MSI MEG Creation had a decent enough VRM to handle the CPU's power draw. In my case the Asus Strix VRM's hit 115c within 10 minutes of rendering (at stock settings) and would throttle the CPU down to 1ghz (this was after "reassurance" that the VRM's would be capable, despite me arguing otherwise before the system was built). I assume the same thing is responsible for the black screens on other systems, or over-current protection kicking in when the VRM's get out of whack.
Vray who?

Hello,
I have the same problems with my computer.
_AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX
_Inno3D GeForce RTX 2070 Twin X2
_G.Skill Aegis DDR4 2 x 16 Go 3000 MHz CAS 16 (*4) 128GB
_Antec High Current Gamer HCG-750W Bronze
_MSI X399 SLI PLUS
_Corsair Hydro Series - H80i v2
_Windows 10 Pro

At the beginnig i had black screen during redering, i turned off 4 threads (so 60/64) in corona setting and it was stable during rendering but....
It was stable during 6 months and now, I have the black screen during denoising, even if it's low def (2500*1400).

It's a nightmare.

Do you know what can i do???
Best regards,
Damien
