Not necessarily but I convert a lot of FBX files and I'd rather convert to Physical material going forward. I like the way the anisotropy works and the clearcoat layer too. Legacy is fine, its just a personal preference.

I see, I only asked for my own curiousity. I started converting to physical now as well.

Hi, I'm just curious:
Those tires you posted, are your rendered images, or is it a reference?
Because, if I had a tire looking like the first of your images, I would attach them to my car straigtaway :-)
The second one might be a litte glossy, but I wouldn't mind!

totally agree! but the car paint could use some work! (if this is the actual scene)

What would you gain from this? are the physical materials visually more accurate?

Well, i deal with it in a way to put xray "on" to objects that i put glass texture

yes, but thats more of a work around than a solution. It seems like this is just something people put up with sadly.

[C4D] I need help! / Glass and metal material in viewport
« on: 2021-07-09, 18:19:23 »
Is there a way to get glass and metal materials to actually show in the viewport? Currently they just show as black until I render them.

Am I making the materials wrong and thats why they arent showing or is this just something people deal with? I know in vray and standard render itll show me the chrome and glass but for some reason corona never has.

I appreciate any feedback!

I have been loving the material library! I hope more is added at some point!

 However, I have some concerns...

Concern 1 : Metals are set to anywhere from 80-999 IOR which doesnt seem right or realistic and have to be turned down to work in a realistic lit environment.

Concern 2 : Displacement maps need to be inverted to properly display the displaced area. (is this just a setting issue I have or are others experiencing this?)

Let me know if you think im doing something wrong or youve experienced these minor issues as well!

Thats what I ended up doing. Was aware of this feature but it will definitely be used a lot now! Thank you!

You have a good enough PC to render, but keep in mind that when you render you are going to have 100% cpu usage and thats normal! It will slow ur pc down a bit. I suggest learning how to use the render queue and set up renders for times you wont be on ur pc.

Also, it helps to check support assist for updates and to clean ur pc up. I pair support assist with CCleaner to keep a fresh PC. I have a similar PC build and I find temporary files such as Shader Caches, temporary files from web searches, etc... after a while weigh down my PC a lot after a while of not cleaning it so be sure to clean it atleast once a week.

[C4D] I need help! / Excluding Sky from 1 object
« on: 2021-06-17, 17:14:25 »
The title says it all. I know that you can turn off reflections and refractions on sky and it effects the entire scene but you cant target a single object to not be effected by the sky like you can the sun. Whats the best method to exclude a single object from the skys reflection?

I could render the object in a separate scene and overlay but id be doing about 200 product images and want to avoid extra photoshop editing if possible. any suggestions?

I posted a few of my images in the gallery section yesterday. Id actually really love some deep criticism from people that actually know what theyre doing.

I've never had any schooling other than youtube, and about 2 years of mentorship under the person that did this work previously for the company.

I think the issue is that I dont use HDRIs in my sky so I dont see much change when the sun direction is changed. Its never been an issue but Ive got some freetime today so I decided to look into it. I appreciate the clarification!

EDIT : I see your example doesnt use an hdri so my above statement doesnt really matter. I'll play with this and see what kind of changes I do notice on my interior scenes. Sorry for my lack of knowledge lol

Can someone please explain what exactly happens when you have the sun linked to the sky like this? It doesnt change the direction or values to match the sun so what exactly is its purpose? or is that its purpose and it just doesn't work? screenshot attached to show what I mean. Terminology is not my strong suit.
