[Max] I need help! / Re: Corona material scale/units?
« on: 2021-06-29, 11:37:54 »
Hi. Sorry, I didn't write it correct. I meant "Reset X-form". That will reset any transformation information layered in the object - including scale.

One thing to avoid when using Max is scaling on object level. This will give you all sorts of problems, like the one you describe. Since scale on object level is commonly used by CAD users, this often gives problems when importing data into Max.

So always scale on subobject-level in Max, and use the "Reset X-form" utility as the first thing when having problems with scaled objects.

Hope it helps

Hi. It's all about scene scale. Max is a single-precision program (like most DCC's) and therefore can't calculate very large numbers precise. That means, that the further away from drawing origin (0,0,0) the less precision.

That's the reason Max warns you if the scene is to far away from drawing origin, and that's why it's impossible to draw a straight line far away from 0,0,0.

So use the system unit that fits your need:
City scale - meters
Interior scale - cm
Product scale - mm

Also remember that Max has two unit settings: 1) System Units, and 2) Display Units. All behind the scene calculations are done in System Units, and most UI measures are following the display Units.

NB - When using meter as System Units you should set decimals to 4 to keep precision down to millimeters.

Hope it helps

Hi. Strange.... there are some things to check:

- Are Max's display unit and system unit both set correct (preferably to the same)?
- Have you tried using x-form on imported geometry? If not, then check if that changes anything.

Hope it helps

Also, please tell what format you're saving to. If you're rendering directly to a avi/mov format, that could be the reason.

65
That's what I meant :)

I agree. Docked IR should keep the rendered picture when stopped, just like VFB IR.

Why doesn't it?

[Max] I need help! / Re: UVWR - Additional Bump
« on: 2021-06-16, 02:47:25 »
I seldom use the blending default size (0,25). Typically I'll set it much lower, like 0,05. It depends on the texture.

Try to lower the blending size.

Hope it helps

Hi. Haven't noticed this. So I would like to ask: Does the same happen when both the Normal map and the Additional map uses the same UVW channel?

Unless things has changed, then Architectural useage should be free - just as you got told.

I haven't read about any changes to this.

Hope it helps

Hi. Hmmm.. before writing my previous post I actually made a direct comparison between your settings and my suggested settings, and found a noticeable improvement. So it seems theres something else thrown into the equation.

Besides that, I have done something like this before, using the standard Max light with "volume light" render effect for the beams only. That worked out quit well, with less noise and faster render times than Corona Volume Mtl. Maybe that's something to try out?

Hi. Just made a quick test with the sttings you provided as a starting point. I found this working:

Render settings:
Adapive Light Solver - OFF
Light Samples Multiplier - 8

Volume material settings:
Absorbtion Color - 128,128,128 (or lower)
Single bounce only - ON

The absorbtion color seems to be the single most important to reduce the noise.

Hope it helps

[Max] I need help! / Re: Archicad to 3DS max units problem
« on: 2021-06-02, 23:15:23 »
Hi antoine.
I don't use Archicad, but from your description I don't think that this is a Corona specific problem. I think the problem is Archicads fbx-exporter. But I might be wrong.

If the problem is wrong UVW scale then you can put a UVW x-form modifier on top of all your objects and correct the scale there.

Hope it helps

[Max] I need help! / Re: Noob needing help with corona sky
« on: 2021-05-27, 19:04:59 »
Hi. The white render with Corona Syn & Sky is overexposed. So turn down the EV value to something around -4,5 and all should work fine.

Hope it helps

Edit: Just as Tom explained :)

Hi. You should also check the size of the rock. Is it imported at the right size, or is it far to big? If it's to big, 0,3cm vs 2,5cm maybe wouldn't be noticeable.

Hi. AFAIK this is unfortunately not possible at this moment (but I would welcome to be proven wrong).

I hope It'll change soon, since this would make many things easier to accomplish, like fading out objects with mso-mtl, or overlay a toon-shade/wireframe on multiple objects etc. etc.

Maybe you should make a feature request for the new year?
